Range, appeal and a massive dose of nasty, gritty bass are the three chief weapons every Dirtybird artist has in his quiver, but Ardalan seems to be the peak culmination of all those assets in one wieldy point. This young archer has had the incomprehensible luck to fall into crew with his idols, be reared by their best and given some of their most guarded musical secrets, then hoisted to a platform to blare his prodigious beats from places where most creators can only dream of being.
Born in Tehran, Iran, Ardalan Noghre-Kar possesses a peculiar, fresh perspective on music genesis without even trying. His mixes, remixes and dubs are known for their sass, energy and wickedly wry samples that snap like a wet towel to the face, but his original tracks are where his efforts shine, like those released with Justin Martin-"Mr. Spock," a 2010 party anthem charted by Diplo and Jesse Rose, and "Lezgo," charted by Dog Blood (Skrillex and Boyz Noise)-and those soon-to-be-released on his own EP with Dirtybird. It's no wonder he's been given the nod by everyone from Papa Dirtybird himself (Claude Von Stroke) and A-Trak to those who are charting his remixes, like Maya Jane Coles, Audiojack, and Riva Starr, the last of whom he has an upcoming remix for to be released on Snatch.
The greatest strength in Ardy's music is his ability to whip out hits that work equally well from the dankest basements to the most opulent dancefloors; sounds that satisfy those with diverse tastes who can unite under his single agenda of having a good time.
When Solar began Djing in the early 90's, San Francisco's Clubs and Raves were places where musically, anything could happen. To be a DJ in this time and place meant having a fierce dedication to the craft of creating electrifying music for people to dance all night. A deep record collection and bold creativity were what people valued in the Djs they would go hear every weekend.
In 1994, Solar and a couple other Djs began bringing a sound system and a generator to the Berkeley Marina for free gatherings to dance and watch the sun set behind the San Francisco skyline. As these Sunset parties grew from dozens to hundreds, and now thousands of attendees, Solar become one San Francisco's best loved DJs. Known for his eclectic sets, blending Techno, Disco, House, Electro and electronic music with the energy of Punk and Psychedelic Rock, Solar has built a loyal following among a discerning crowd of dancers and party goers used to hearing every touring DJ you've ever heard of. Nearly twenty years of playing music for crowds large and small has evolved a style of Djing that seamlessly fuses the best of classic and modern dance music. More recently as resident and co-creator of the No Way Back parties, Solar has earned the reputation of a DJ devoted to the art of mixing and selecting music without regard to ephemeral fashion, trends or fads.
GALEN (Sunset Sound System, Dirtybird Records - San Francisco)
As a lover of fine aged ports and master of penne puttanesca, Galen is a man of fascinating complexity. Thirteen years as a competitive swimmer laid the framework for his focus and disciplined nature, but it was really his years as a lingerie designer that taught his hands the delicate finesse they would later lend to his DJ sets. After heightened tensions with rival designer Karl Lagerfeld climaxed into a heated brawl at Milan Fashion Week, Galen decided it was time for a career shift. Tapping into his musical talents, he founded Sunset Sound System with the idea of providing free, outdoor picnic-style parties where people could dance while watching the sun set behind the San Francisco skyline. Word spread quickly, and what began as a few friends with speakers and a generator turned into festivities of over 1,000 people within the first year. Today, Sunset Sound System is on the move, boasting big-name talent for their international boat parties, festival-style campouts and famed park gatherings.
The Sunset parties served as Galen’s creative outlet and a prime platform to perfect his technique. He grew up in an era when DJing meant extensive knowledge of music history, hard-earned vinyl collections, and truly intuitive mixing. Galen successfully grew himself into the San Fran-disco household name that he maintains today, holding it down with the world’s top talent. His sets are thoughtful, yet never pre-planned, with artfully-timed track selections that spark any dance floor he touches, appealing to the old school just as much as the new.
After struggling with the decision in 2005 to turn down a $6-billion-a-year position as Steve Aoki’s cake throwing coach, Galen’s hard-earned accomplishments began to pile. Creative fusion with Claude VonStroke led to a killer remix of ‘80s breakbeat classic “Jam On It,” and a mutual profound love for pizza inspired him and Justin Martin to co-produce Dirtybird classics, “Dust Devil” and “Tumbleweed.” Soon after, he landed a coveted feature spot on Annie Nightingale’s Radio 1 Show where he impressed BBC listeners with his smooth mixing style. Most recently, Galen’s Sunset remix of “I Feel Love” by Get Physical charmer, Lopazz, catapulted to #1 on his Beatport chart.
The summer of 2013 opened European doors with a breakthrough appearance at Dirtybird’s Ibiza residency. In Croatia, Galen shined on the Sunset Sound System Boat Party alongside Justin Martin, Eats Everything and Solar at the enchanting Garden Festival. With undeniable momentum and attention from the industry’s finest, dance music enthusiasts can surely expect exciting things from this seasoned artist. Look out for his new track, “ICANCU” on the upcoming Dirtybird Compilation, and certainly don’t miss Sunset Sound System parties around the globe in 2014.

M3 continues to rock San Francisco and looks forward to upcoming music release in early 2013.
