I am a drummer and percussionist from New York. My musical style is rooted in funk, soul, blues and reggae, but I’m called on to play everything from rock to pop and jazz. A 2012 graduate of Berklee College of Music, I studied drum set and percussion performance with Kenwood Dennard, Mike Mangini, Larry Finn, Dave Llimina and Mark Walker. I currently play, record and tour with several different bands in the New York and Boston areas including SUNDUB, The Bushwick Hotel, ILa Mawana, Rapplesauce and The Brighton Beat. I have also recently played or recorded with Jam/Funk band Blue Mountain Bustdown and Reggae/Dub band The Hub Dub, as well as my first professional music endeavor, my Ska/Reggae band, Lemonade Grenade.
I teach drum and percussion lessons to students of all ages in the New York City area. Please contact me for more information.
Bubonik Funk is an American Rock band, from Charlotte, North Carolina formed in 2006, consisting of Stefan Kallander (guitar, vocals), Dylan Ellett (vocals, organ), Nick Mcowen (bass guitar), and Daniel Allison (drums, vocals). With their funky, guitar-driven soulful sound, Bubonik Funk are regularly cited as a groove and jam band. However, the band's individualistic style draws from many sources and transcends any one music genre. Bubonik Funk did not release songs from their initial album virally, as they preferred to develop their sound and style further.
Bubonik Funk is held in high regard for their emphasis on independent management, full control of the creative process, and a widening sphere of popularity despite any aid from commercial companies or record labels. In 2007, the band began playing shows in the Charlotte area, venues such as Tremont Music Hall, Neighborhood Theatre, and the Evening Muse. By 2009, Bubonik Funk had played as far north as Boston, and for college crowds of UNC Chapel Hill, East Carolina University, UNC Wilmington and Berklee School of Music in Boston.
As of 2010, the band has released two E.P.s. "OTB" and "Wink at the Devil". Both albums were self produced with a single production engineer, Dustin Hofsess. Creative control, album art and distribution fell in the hands of the band itself.
Bubonik Funk has played with respected musicians such as Soulive, Laura Reed and the Deep Pocket, Cyril Neville, and last July played Verizon Wireless prior to Phish. The band has done a 45 minute radio interview with Davakar of 106.5 The End and performed their song "Woman in My Basket".
The band recorded their third official album in July of 2011. The album will contain nine songs, more than any other prior album. The release date is set for 2012.
Rapplesauce is a group of musicians dedicated to bringing you that stanky down low gangsta funk. Riff Funk. Dirty sh!t that will make you scrunch your face up in pleasure. Ughhh, You just can't help but dance.
Blue Food is funk for the 21st century. Formed in 2008 and naming themselves after the George Carlin routine about the absence of any blue food ("Don't say blueberries, 'cause you know they're purple."), the band—Odin Alvarez, drums; Michael Carolan, trumpet; Angel Eduardo, vocals; Jeremy Gorin, saxophone; Wilhelmus Sapanaro, bass; Miles Ungar, guitar; and Chris Winn, trombone—played their first show at Greenwich Village's famous Bitter End in July of 2009, and has been flattening audiences in the New York City area ever since with their dynamic stage presence and unique sound, which is equal parts Led Zeppelin and Stevie Wonder.
In early 2011, after two years of performing live and writing material, the Blue Food headed into their guitarist's home studio to independently record their full-length debut. The resulting album, entitled "Engines," is an ambitious collection of songs that blends the members' various influences, from the classic rock and funk of the 1970s to modern pop, dance, and heavy metal. Officially released in August of 2012, "Engines" weaves seamlessly between the hard-hitting guitar riffage on songs like "Boogiemen," the funky grooves on tracks like "Joker Face," and the anthemic, catchy chorus of the album's centerpiece, "Engine of the World."
Armed with a new CD and determined to make their mark on the modern music scene, Blue Food is prepared to bring their powerful sound to the masses. Combining their contemporary edge with old school sensibilities and a raucous, in-your-face live presence, this band is bound blow minds, shake asses, and shatter eardrums worldwide.
