"Ethiopian Music and its hypnotically funky rhythms and exotic tonality is
the foundation for Portland’s Tezeta Band, an eight piece ensemble that
plays nostalgic Ethiopian soul music. While rooting their sound in Ethio-Soul
Jazz, Tezeta Band has been playing old-school African inspired jams across
clubs and festivals to popular acclaim since 2008. The band has released one full-length album entitled "The Origin of Night Life" and consists of members of Five Fingers of Funk and Ural Thomas & the Pain."

The Keplers

The Keplers are a Portland-based rhythm section hailing from Felony Flats. Their music is a spacey amalgamation of funk, hip-hop, and jazz in the vein of Herbie Hancock, MMW, Lonnie Smith, Jimmy Smith, and Emmitt Smith. Since its inception in the summer of 2011, the band has experienced divorce, fought addiction, and suffered the effects of a stagnant economy all while honing that spacey, funky sound that a few dozen people throughout the Pacific Northwest have come to cherish and enjoy. After many lineup changes the band has condensed down to the current trio with the occasional horn player floating over funky key melodies, punchy bass lines, and thundering drum beats that don’t skip……..ever.
