Burlington-based instrumental hip-hop, dub, rock and afro-beat. Bass heavy, percussion driven grooves lay the foundation while trumpet, synths, samples, and guitar blur the line between improvisation and composition.
Since first forming ten years ago at St. Michael's College, Japhy have toured extensively throughout the Northeast, winning over audiences, and sharing the stage with everyone from Femi Kuti to the Roots. Rounding out the bill for their 10th Anniversary Celebration will be Burlington favorites, the DuPont Brothers, and Boston organ trio monsters, Otis Grove.
The DuPont Brothers
Two brothers reunite after years of geographical separation by a fortified collaboration in music. Blending the contemplative winters of the northeast with the solitary beauty of southwestern desert, Sam and Zack DuPont are now coconspirators in a shared passion that runs deep in their family. This Burlington Vermont made duo has hit the ground running since the formation of the group in March of 2013. The brothers have recently shared the stage with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Ben Sollee, Gin Wigmore, Chris Thomas King, Langhorne Slim, Howie Day and The Lone Bellow to name a few. Lush finger-style guitar work is complimented by elegant prose and a vocal blend that could only be matched by blood relation.
The sound is Vermont made Folk-Americana.
There's a new sound taking over the town known as Boston. If you're by the banks of the Charles River as the moon glows over the muddy waters you very well may hear some thick, groovy beats banging out a trail for raw guitar licks and a soul-drenched Hammond organ. Yes indeed, ladies and gentleman who are down with the funk, the rock and the soul, you have your new favorite band: Otis Grove. And it just feels so good doesn't it?
Otis Grove began as a collective experiment in crossing the traditional jazz sound with funk and Hip-Hop rhythms. It was the beginning of a sound based in groove, free in improvisation, yet rooted in songwriting and soulful melodies. Based out of Boston, the band began spreading their sound to New England clubs in 2002. The music, which has since evolved into a unique blend of soulful organ funk and garage rock, pays tribute to the masters while consistently pushing itself in new directions.
Six years, over 500 national shows, and one UK tour later, Otis Grove is hitting it harder then ever. The trio - known for their high-energy, dance inducing, dynamic live perfomances - signed with Ropeadope Digital records in early 2008 and is currently promoting their 2nd studio album, "Crank It UP".
