Watch & Listen
Paul Pfau (like "wow") is a soulful singer-songwriter and guitar player from the Baltimore-Washington Metro Area.
With hands like Hendrix and a voice that croon's with Sinatra's charm, Paul brings an authentic sound to the modern era. His unique approach to music combines blues & New Orleans funk rhythms, with classic & contemporary sounding pop melodies. Since graduating from Shepherd University with an Economics degree in 2010, Paul has averaged over 150 gigs a year. By 2011 he was nominated Best New Artist by the Washington Area Music Association, opened for The Lumineers, and had the distinct pleasure of jamming with the Beach Boys. In 2012 he began recording his debut full length album "Happy To Be" on which he worked with award-winning mixing engineer Jeff Juliano, who was responsible for the debut records of John Mayer, Jason Mraz, and Dave Matthews Band. This year, Paul and his band will travel the east coast on the release of "Happy To Be" (now available on iTunes) and is opening for blues legends Sonny Landreth & Maceo Parker.
"...the magic of their music is in the way opposites attract. His harmonies add a soulful bottom and her's a softer edge."
-Adrienne Lawrence, Frederick News Post
"Pretty Gritty's Soulful Americana have been turning heads in the music world for more than two years, but it would seem their future is brighter than their already bright past."
-Ken Frager, The Pulse
Pretty Gritty is the serendipitous joining of the talents of Blaine Heinonen and Sarah Wolff, both born and raised in Montgomery County, MD. Although they originate from different rock bands, fate brought them together at local “open-mic” nights, where it became evident that they shared an interest in writing and performing songs that mix country, rock, blues, and soul. It’s said that she brings the “pretty” while he brings the “gritty,” combining for an engaging alt-country duo with seducing harmonies and addicting acoustics.
In three years, Pretty Gritty has cultivated a unique sound allowing them to open for such acts as Tim O'Brian, Tony Trischka, Chris Eldridge, Josh Gracin, Larry the Cable Guy, and Lake Street Dive at renowned places like Jammin Java, 8x10, Frederick Gone Country, the Virginia State Fair, and the Charm City Folk and Bluegrass Festival.
Pretty Gritty's debut album, featuring Keller Williams, won three IMC awards in 2012. Their outstanding live performance has earned them a reputation as a must-see musical act.
Now Blaine and Sarah have returned victorious from their first National Tour and are in the studio finishing up their new EP. This third recording project was made possible by their amazing fans and supporters via Kickstarter. Do yourself a favor, come experience Soulful Americana at its best.
Niki & Conner
Conner Hitchcock and Niki Galvin provide a unique and fresh musical sound that appeals to a wide audience and has begun to generate a loyal following. Their song list includes contemporary and classic pop, rock, and country hits along with many original tunes. With a combined 7 years of public performances under their belt, their professional experience is not readily apparent by their ages.
Conner, who is also the lead singer of the popular rock band Veranda, has been performing since 2009. Spending his weekdays in class, when school is out music is his life. Conner has performed in over 100 live shows at venues that include the National Cherry Blossom Festival, DC9, Velvet Lounge in DC, The Quarter in Baltimore, Launch in PA, and Jammin Java. As the winner of both the 2012 and 2013 Loudoun Youthfest, Conner had the privilege for opening for nationally known groups, The Ready Set and Mayday Parade.
Niki, who began singing before she could talk, started studying vocals and guitar at Studio Rock of Northern Virginia in 2011. Through the music school, she’s performed at venues such as Mahalo Cove, BGR, Landsdown Resort, and in the Loudoun Valley Live Concert Series. She’s also provided music for charity causes such as M.A.D.D., The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and Kids Helping Kids.
