Fastball was formed in 1994 by native Texans Joey Shuffield and Miles Zuniga along with So-Cal transplant Tony Scalzo. Originally called Magneto USA, they were signed in 1995 to Hollywood Records and soon changed their name to Fastball. They released their first full length album,"Make Your Mama Proud" in 1996 and toured extensively throughout the US with little notice. After a year and a half they recorded a second album entitled, "All The Pain Money Can Buy". Before it's release in Spring 1998, US radio had latched on to a catchy little ditty called "The Way" and it was clear that Fastball had a hit on their hands. Songs like "Sooner or Later", "Fire Escape" and "Out Of My Head" followed and the band toured around the world. At home, copies of All The Pain Money Can Buy reached the platinum, 1 million sales mark by the end of the year. Another album, "The Harsh Light Of Day" was released in 2000 and the band continued to tour at home and abroad. A fourth CD on Rykodisc, "Keep Your Wig On" was released in 2004. Since then, Fastball has continued to play live throughout the world. The guys have also done quite a bit of side work, writing and recording with other artists like Bruce Robison, Al Anderson, Bowling For Soup and many more. New material from Fastball is in the writing and recording stage and a fifth studio release is expected for 2008.
Rock & Roll is still very much alive. You can feel it in the raw energy of Desoto Jones, a band which blends contemporary sound with the roots of American Rock.
The ragged intensity of Desoto Jones is reminiscent of the early days of grunge and alternative, but is also pleasantly sophisticated; the band skillfully fuses ear-grabbing melodies with soulful, introspective lyrics. Their music is an inquest of candid expression, but the band doesn't try to wax philosophic; its lyrics grow from real, relatable experiences.
Desoto Jones' DIY work ethic has paid dividends. Recently, the band's music has been featured on MTV programming such as, "Jersey Shore" and "The Challenge: Battle of the Exes" through an innovative partnership with MTV-affiliated Hype Music. In addition, the band has previously shared the stage with artists such as Spacehog, Anchor & Braille (members of Anberlin), Schematic (members of Mae), A Simple Plan, Candlebox, Carolina Liar, and Ed Kowalczyk (of Live).
The new album, Shapeshifter, is the result of a successful Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign. Fans can expect an album with no bells or whistles, no dance beats, and no synthesizers to add artificial flourishes to the band's straightforward delivery. With guitars, bass, drums and soaring vocals, it's just straight-up rock music.
Underwater Country Club
The brain child of brothers Andrew and Skip Robinson, the group Underwater Country Club could most aptly be described as a shape shifting outfit of melodies, booming rock percussion's, and lyrically poignant songs.
"Transitshop is a fast rising alternative/indie-rock band whose debut EP was released in 2011 to critical acclaim and charted highly on the CMJ college radio charts. Based out of Philadelphia and New York City, the band's live shows have become a spectacle in the northeast US while receiving radio play on over 50 FM stations nationwide! Their anxiously awaited full-length album was recorded in Detroit and will be released in February 2013 on Rock Ridge Records."
