“The United Sounds of Austin”
Alejandro Escovedo and Special Guests

Doors 6:30 PM / Show 8:00 PM
The United Sounds of Austin is a musical journey that celebrates the rich history of Austin’s storied music scene.
Alejandro Escovedo curates and narrates a guided tour of the city’s artistic evolution through music along with special guests Lucinda Williams, Joe Ely, Butch Hancock, Terry Allen, Rosie Flores, and Roky Erickson.
Using photographs, songs and stories, Escovedo and friends take audiences on a journey chronicling everything that made Austin so distinctly Austin including the culture-fusing sounds of conjunto, the unmistakable tone of Janis Joplin, Dolores and the Bluebonnet Boys’ quaint country classic “The Austin Waltz,” and the venues that cultivated the talent that make up this rich musical city. No facet of the city’s kaleidoscopic music culture is left unexamined or unappreciated.
At its heart, The United Sounds of Austin is a testament to the cultural influence, harmony and beauty of this great city.
The United Sounds of Austin show was originally commissioned by Chicago Symphony Center Presents and produced by Danny Melnick for Absolutely Live Entertainment as part of a five-show series titled the United Sounds of America, which took place at the Chicago Symphony Hall in 2011.
