Columbia Ballet Collaborative Fall 2013 Performance

Columbia Ballet Collaborative

Columbia Ballet Collaborative (CBC) is pleased to present a program of six dynamic and original works for its upcoming fall performances. Founded in 2007 by five professional ballet dancers enrolled at Columbia University, CBC is comprised of students from all of the University’s undergraduate colleges and affiliates.

For the Fall 2013 season, Columbia Ballet Collaborative welcomes back Claudia Schreier, a Harvard graduate and recipient of the Suzanne Farrell Dance Prize in 2008 who has choreographed twice previously for CBC, and Richard Isaac, a student at the School of General Studies and former Kansas City Ballet and Tulsa Ballet dancer who is creating a work for CBC for the second time. The program also features new works by Devin Alberda, corps de ballet member of New York City Ballet; Donna Salgado, artistic director of CONTINUUM Contemporary/Ballet; Dan Pahl, a Columbia University senior; and Ja’Malik, a former dancer with several companies including Cleveland Ballet, Oakland Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, City Dance Ensemble, Ballet Hispanico and Ballet X.

CBC was recently featured in the March 2013 issue of Dance Magazine and will appear in the upcoming November 2013 issue of Pointe Magazine. In the past, it has also been featured in The New York Times, TimeOut NY, and VanityFair.com. CBC is committed to enriching the arts in the Columbia community and providing a platform for the collaboration between professionals in the New York dance community and Columbia University students. CBC is managed and directed by students and its members have danced professionally with companies such as Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Ballet West, Kansas City Ballet, New York City Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Orlando Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, and Tulsa Ballet. Regarding CBC’s focus on cultivating new works, The New York Times states: "New choreographic voices are rare in ballet, and the collaborative’s contribution in this respect has been vast already."
