Human Interconnected Music presents Rocket Ship!
Starr Saunders, The Coffis Brothers, Exhausted Pipes, Katie Ekin
500 4th Street
San Francisco, CA, 94107
This event is 21 and over
It started with a conversation Starr Saunders had with her father three weeks before he died from cancer. Starr’s father had a dream, and in the dream Starr bought him a rocket ship. This experience resulted in Starr writing a song called "Rocket Ship". The song “Rocket Ship” will be released on November 12, 2013, four days before the show. For those of us lucky enough to have already heard the song, it is incredible. The song is both a reflection of the authentic and profound sadness of a Starr’s loss and an example of how far Starr has come as a songwriter and performer. The loss of her father put Starr on a rocket ship of her own. She is working on her craft harder than ever. Her improvement over the last two to three months is the equivalent of an average artist’s improvement over two to three years. Sometimes profound loss can produce great change. Starr, ever filled with energy and enthusiasm, has channeled these powerful feelings of sadness and grief into hard work, and produced something beautiful. We are fortunate she is playing a full, live set, including the new song “Rocket Ship”, on November 16th.
A percentage of what Starr makes from this song and anything related will be donated towards cancer research and for those who cannot afford treatment.
The Coffis Brothers
The Coffis Brothers & The Mountain Men are a Rock and Roll band born and raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Songwriters Jamie and Kellen Coffis are backed by Kyle Poppen on lead guitar, Mason Hutchinson on bass and Henry Chadwick (My Stupid Brother) on drums.
The Coffis Brothers boast an extensive repertoire of original rock and blues tunes built around simple and honest lyrics, neatly constructed verses and catchy hooks. The brother’s blend of folk, blues, R&B and straight ahead rock are evidence of an upbringing spent listening to Tom Petty, Neil Young, and Beatles records.
Their debut full length album was self titled and released in 2011. They followed up with a 2012 release of an E.P titled “Waiting For You.”
Exhausted Pipes is a unique 3-piece indie/folk-rock band based out of Berkeley, CA. Singer/songwriter and guitarist Hunter Steers, drummer David Mayman and bassist Andy Landgraf produce a tight, original sound. With rocking solos, soulful singing and a tight rhythm-section, Exhausted Pipes brings up the energy of any crowd at every show. They are known for their loud, energetic, infectious performances and deliver one of the biggest sounds you've heard from a three-piece.
Born and raised in Santa Cruz, California, Katie Ekin grew up listening to and watching her father perform in a band. Being raised by music has given Katie the sophistication of someone who's been performing for 30 years. And at 22, her youth makes everything sound so honest and pure. It's a combination we crave. Katie has won 10 songwriting awards, including Best Song and Best Performance at the West Coast Songwriters Hollywood competitions. Katie moved to Los Angeles this summer because she’s ready to advance her career onto the national stage. She’s already had two gigs at the Voodoo Lounge in the House of Blues. She’s now living and thriving in L.A., but she’ll always be a Santa Cruz/Northern California woman in her heart. We’re excited she’s coming back to San Francisco to play the Utah!
