Colors, Desoto Jones, Sleep In

(Philadelphia, PA; Featuring former members of: Circa Survive, This Day Forward, A Life Once Lost, Halfway To Holland, and Like Lions)

Colors sports a lineup rich in Lower Bucks County talent – vocalist Mike Shaw fronted screamo powerhouse This Day Forward while skinsman T.J. DeBlois laid down the beats for A Life Once Lost, Halfway to Holland and the short-lived yet celebrated Like Lions. As Colors, they definitely wear the influences of their past bands on their sleeves. Colors rocketed through numbers from their debut CD such as “Four Lanes” and “Know When to Leave,” all of which were dealt with next to flawless precision. The guitarists alternated between delay-heavy rings and jagged, crispy licks, which were reminiscent of In Pieces, Thursday and Keepsake, flecked with the Pacific Northwest stylings of Minus the Bear, These Arms are Snakes and Sharks Keep Moving. Vocalist Mike Shaw prowled along the edge of the stage and opted for a melodic approach not unlike the singing heard on “U.S. Songs” by Elliot. For a newer group, Colors showed a lot of promise. Given the sum of its parts, it seems to be a promise that will be kept as the band progresses and grows- Scott Signorino of JUMP PHILLY Magazine.

Rock & Roll is still very much alive. You can feel it in the raw energy of Desoto Jones, a band which blends contemporary sound with the roots of American Rock.

The ragged intensity of Desoto Jones is reminiscent of the early days of grunge and alternative, but is also pleasantly sophisticated; the band skillfully fuses ear-grabbing melodies with soulful, introspective lyrics. Their music is an inquest of candid expression, but the band doesn't try to wax philosophic; its lyrics grow from real, relatable experiences.

Desoto Jones' DIY work ethic has paid dividends. Recently, the band's music has been featured on MTV programming such as, "Jersey Shore" and "The Challenge: Battle of the Exes" through an innovative partnership with MTV-affiliated Hype Music. In addition, the band has previously shared the stage with artists such as Spacehog, Anchor & Braille (members of Anberlin), Schematic (members of Mae), A Simple Plan, Candlebox, Carolina Liar, and Ed Kowalczyk (of Live).

The new album, Shapeshifter, is the result of a successful Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign. Fans can expect an album with no bells or whistles, no dance beats, and no synthesizers to add artificial flourishes to the band's straightforward delivery. With guitars, bass, drums and soaring vocals, it's just straight-up rock music.

Tortuga

(Feat members of Can You Canoe)
TRTGA is a progressive rock trio from Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. In 2007, Yamil (guitars, bass) began collaborating with Jesse (drums, perc.) and Colin (guitars) to embark on a journey with no musical boundaries to inhibit them, mixing intricate rock riffs with some tasty Latin grooves and space-crazed effects. TRTGA is currently recording their first full-length album; some songs new, others old, all full of love and complete chaos! See what you hear.

Blooming Act

The band came together in 2012 when Matt Newquist and Steve Jumps brought on drummer Joe Maglich and the three piece group started practicing at Zoobieville Studios in Wilmington, DE. Guitarist/vocalist Matt Newquist had composed a number of acoustic folk tunes and crafted them with Steve Jumps and Majik Joe, giving the songs a completely new energy and dynamic. The music of Blooming Act is soulfu...l enough that your parents may enjoy it but at a volume that they will probably never understand.

The debut EP, entitled 'Vancouver' was released January 2013. The five-song offering ranges from foot-stomping murder ballads and dust bowl anthems to your standard-farel love songs. A free stream of the first track 'Hey Felicity is currently available on bloomingact.com. They look forward to spreading their music and coming to your town soon.
