Laura Reed, The Nth Power

South African born singer/songwriter Laura Reed has been captivating audiences globally with her dynamic vocals, vulnerable songwriting, and inspiring live performances. Laura cut her teeth as an artist early on, performing at coffee shops and street corners from age 16 throughout North Carolina. Laura currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee where she was beckoned by mentor, former music executive and Grammy-award winning producer, Paul Worley.

It was Paul who introduced Laura to 2X Grammy award winning songwriter/producer Shannon Sanders (India.Arie/John Legend/Pink) and encouraged a collaboration. Laura and Sanders immediately hit it off and began writing and performing locally. Laura is currently working on her debut album, "The Awakening" with Sanders and Worley. The first single off the project "Faith not Fear" was released in May of 2012. Laura’s authentic "slow-cooked soul music recipe” is reminiscent of iconic music trendsetters like Erykah Badu, Adele, Sade, Lauryn Hill and the late Amy Winehouse.

Laura's music has been seasoned by influences from her background work with icons such as George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, as well as her extensive global travels (15 countries and three languages thus far); a delivery that has hints of Samba, Hip Hop, and African beats. Laura recently joined Sony/ATV and plans to release her debut album "The Awakening" in 2013.

Few artists pack as much punch in a five-piece, all-analog ensemble as The Nth Power. The formula starts with drummer Nikki Glaspie (Dumpstaphunk, Beyoncé)’s deep pocket, explosive energy and silky vocals, compounded by bassist Nate Edgar (John Brown’s Body), whose quiet confidence lies in perfect contrast to the emphatic, funky low-end he creates. Next, the unmistakable vocals of Nigel Hall (Lettuce, Warren Haynes Band) and his innate ability to preach with a keyboard hit the groove in full force. Over the top comes Nick Cassarino (Jennifer Hartswick Band, The Shift), oozing more soul in one finger than most guitarists could create in a lifetime, and with a voice that immediately wraps the room in sex appeal. West African djembe master Weedie Braimah (Toubab Krewe, Kreative Pandemonium) is the final X-factor, creating a rhythmic symphony that completes the equation with resounding finesse.

Together, The Nth Power wants to change lives through a message of musical love and understanding. “Just know that when you hear this music, you’re going to feel something—you’re going to connect with something higher than yourself,” Braimah explained.

The group released an independent EP, Basic Minimum Skills Test, in April 2013 and is currently recording their debut full-length studio album, Abundance, which will be released at the end of the year.

“The sound we create is built on a strong foundation of love,” said Hall. “We’re just getting started, the best is yet to come.”
