Dannic "slash" DJ, producer and mash-up maestro from Breda in the Netherlands – the hometown of Tiësto, Funkerman & Hardwell (something in the water, perhaps?) This talented fellow won fans early in his career thanks to a series of amazing mash-ups. Bootlegs like Axwell vs. Julie McKnight - How Soon is Glory, Tim Mason & Laidback Luke vs. Adele - The Moment Is Rolling In God's Air (Funkadelic Bootleg), Feel So Close 2 Unite Us (Dannic Bootleg) and My Feelings For Hells Bells (Dannic MashUp). These tracks remain a staple in the sets of Tiësto, Avicii, Hardwell, Nicky Romero and Bingo Players to name a few.
Daan Romers (in real life) won the Dancetour DJ contest in 2009 and a slot playing his productions to an audience of 10,000 people. The following year his remix of Funkerman's Automatic won the Funkerman remix contest and got himself added to Hardwell's new label Revealed Recordings. Those in the know already knew he was one to watch, but to a wider audience, Dannic had arrived.
Dannic's first solo track on Revealed Recordings was called "Doster", heavily supported by Nicky Romero, Hardwell and Nari & Milani. More recently the Dutch Riverdance Festival selected his track WOP to be the festival's official anthem – a huge honour. This was followed by another accolade when Pipeline, heavily supported by Tiësto, was made the lead track on Cr2's 2012 Ibiza compilation. This track went to number 18 in the Beatport progressive house chart.
Dannic went on to release multiple records with Cr2 and Black Hole Recordings before catching the attention of the major labels. Major remixes are in the works for Atlantic Records, Ultra, Armada Music, Ministry of Sound and One Love for big names by the likes of R3hab, Nicky Romero, Chuckie, Example, Arty, Nadia Ali, Helena, Sean Paul. His remix for Helena has just become #1 in the Australian Dance Chart.
Tombo - released on Hardwell's label Revealed Recordings - is another Dannic track making waves – peep into the bags of Erick Morillo, Chuckie, Fedde Le Grand, Bingo Players, Hardwell, Thomas Gold, Eddie Halliwell and Alex Gaudino and you're certain to see it there.
At the beginning of 2012 Dannic collaborated with Hardwell on a track called Kontiki (Revealed Recordings). That track stormed the Beatport Top 10 and went seriously viral, racking up more than one million views. The pair is already working on a follow-up, so watch this space!
Dannic and Hardwell also served up an official remix for UK superstar Example. Their spin on Say Nothing is out on September 16 and is already a cool number one in the Cool Cuts chart. Dannic also has a collaboration with Jordy Dazz in the works. Hardwell, always an ardent supporter, has played it in almost every single one of his sets this summer.
From mash-ups to high-profile collaborations to tours and residencies in some of the world's hottest venues, there is plenty going on in Dannic's universe. But whatever he turns his hand to next, you can be sure he'll bring his trademark technical excellence and propensity for catchiness to the table.
At the grand old age of 17, Danny Avila has become one of the hottest acts in the world of EDM. From winning the 'Best Newcomer DJ' at the prestigious 2011 Vicious Music Awards at just 16, through an incredible 2012 Ibiza season that caught the attention of everyone including Tiësto and dance bible DJ Mag where he became the youngest ever Covermount CD artist, to the announcement of his residency as the youngest ever prime-time DJ on US broadcasting behemoth SiriusXM and inclusion in Billboard, MTV and Dancing Astronaut's 2013 Ones To Watch lists, Avila is the name on everyone's lips – and rightly so.
It's a story that starts over five years ago. After haggling his way into some of Spain's top club venues at the age of 12 to witness the passion and power of artists like Fedde le Grand, Afrojack, David Guetta and more from the confines of lighting booths and sound desks, the young Avila knew exactly where he wanted to be. Showing incredible determination and a vast sponge-like acquirement for music, Avila went from playing at friends' parties to warm-up spots at Ku in Benidorm – where he was first noticed by le Grand. Proving an ability beyond his years to lay down sets oozing with tribal heat and rich in track selection that burst beyond the confines of the Beatport Top 10 charts, Avila's reputation grew, and grew quickly. To anyone who's witnessed him behind the DJ booth, it has come as no surprise. To see Danny in action is to be hit with the full force of an exuberant, excitable and unbridled energy for the music that he plays and the reaction from the crowd that marks him out as a truly passionate performer who both loves and understands the dance floor and what it stands for.
Fast forward to 2012, and it proved to be a phenomenal year for the young Spaniard. After earning his stripes in illustrious company thanks to early headline slots with Fedde le Grand, Martin Solveig, Afrojack, David Guetta and the Black Eyed Peas, Danny confirmed not one, not two but three residencies in Ibiza – at the jet-set hotspot Blue Marlin, at one of the world's most celebrated venues, Space Ibiza, and at the personal behest of Tiësto, the legendary Pacha Ibiza where he appeared alongside the iconic Dutchman for an unbelievable 15 dates. A staggering 35 dates in total across the season, Danny Avila had well and truly landed on the White Isle.
While Avila was busy wowing the crowds in Ibiza, on the other side of the Atlantic, the powers that be were also paying attention. Stateside broadcasting behemoth SiriusXM, the largest purveyor of dance music on the North American continent, snapped up the teenager's 'Ready To Jump' show without a moment's hesitation, making him the youngest EVER prime-time resident to grace the airwaves – and this before Avila had even dropped a single beat on American soil. The show, a sizzling hour-long concoction of pure energy and fun is the perfect representation of the young Spaniard and has had rave reviews across the board from enamoured legions of new US fans. Finally, in September, Danny gave America and Canada what they had been waiting for with a massive inaugural tour that included a sensational three dates in NYC alone. Exploding inside DJ booths across the continent, tens of thousands witnessed both the power and creativity that had already set the European circuit ablaze. With the release of his debut single 'Breaking Your Fall' on Big Beat Records in October, the Avila wave began to build unprecedented speed, with music bible Billboard naming him as 'One To Watch' for their 2013 '21 Under 21' power list, swiftly followed by similar plaudits in the MTV Clubland list and the influential Dancing Astronaut list, underlining the huge impact Danny made in such a short space of time.
With 2013 dawning across the planet, the wave is beginning to approach tsunami levels. After further dates across North America and Europe and huge first-time appearances in key Asian cities, Danny's management announced the launch of the Generation Wild tour, teaming him up with fellow musical firebrands Deniz Koyu, dBerrie and Mikael Weermets. The first of 20 nights opens in Chicago on January 31st and is already garnering huge press interest. Add to the concoction a brand new package of edits for 'Breaking Your Fall' and the imminent news of a massive remix collaboration with one of the biggest stars in recent musical history, and it's becoming clear that if you want to keep up with Danny Avila, you need to be damn fast!
Oh – and if all that wasn't enough, he's not only spear heading the next generation of superstar DJ/producers – he's also pretty damn prolific when it comes to anything concerning a board. Verging on pro skate- and snowboarder status, Avila's also notched up 2nd in the Spanish Wakeboard Championships, 7th in the European Wakeboard Championships and 12th in the World Wakeboard Championships – as ever proving that he's ready to jump no matter what the medium!
There is, it seems, absolutely no stopping Danny Avila at whatever he turns his hand to. The future beckons, and it's practically blinding.
