Northern Ireland's Two Door Cinema Club are a music-mad trio and their highly-anticipated sophomore album, entitled Beacon will be out on September 3rd on Kitsuné.
Their story begins with three 15-year olds at school in Bangor, Northern Ireland. They initially bonded over a love of Scots rockers Biffy Clyro, and formed an emo-styled rock band with a drummer, but he left and the remaining three realised, says Kev, "We were playing music that we weren't enjoying, so we said 'let's write some songs, without any pretence of what they'll sound like'. That's why we find it so hard now if people now ask us what genre we are."
On March 2010 they released their debut album "Tourist History" which is undeniably pop, and it draws on electronica/electro, rock and Afro-beats without ever recalling hopeful dilettantes, but the sum is greater than any 'indie electro pop' parts.
With Tourist History achieving platinum status in the UK and their native Ireland, and selling over 1 million copies worldwide, Two Door Cinema Club are one of the biggest breakthrough bands of the last two years. Their incendiary live shows have become internationally renowned, resulting in the band selling out big venue tours all over the world including the UK, Europe, US, Asia, South America, Japan and South Africa.
Following their headline slot on February's NME Awards Tour, the band, Alex Trimble, Kevin Baird and Sam Halliday, travelled to LA in April to record the album with acclaimed producer Jacknife Lee (Bloc Party, U2, REM) in his home studios. The result is a bold statement of intent – an ambitious and heartfelt selection of tracks showcasing a stunning depth of songwriting and a broader, maturer sound.
"Beacon is a much more intimate record than our first, but at the same time, it's much bigger and more inclusive. Trying to find that balance has been our goal for a long time and this record takes us one step closer to the band we've dreamt of becoming."
"Working with Jacknife Lee was a joy and a pleasure. He shared our goals and played a huge part in putting the pieces together in the right way. This is an exciting time for us and we can't wait to share the songs with everyone.", said Alex Trimble.
This year, Beacon looks set to make it's mark – shining brightly and guiding the highly-exciting Irish trio into the next chapter of their rapidly evolving musical journey.
