Catherine Britton aka Cassy left England for Austria with her Caribbean father and Austrian mother in 1975. She spent her childhood in Vienna and Lower Austria learning to sing and studying music at an early age. After studying drama and acting in London for three years she returned to her hometown of Vienna and began working in the theatre. But she soon gave up acting when she realised she couldn't stand the profession.
Her first professional step into the electronic music world was as a vocalist for Elin aka Autorepeat on 'Music Takes Me Higher' on Sabotage Records. Electric Indigo was able to convince Cassy to not only involve herself as a singer but to learn how to mix records. After her first DJ gig in Vienna, Munich and further productions she met Dave the Hustler in Geneva where they started working on a collaborative project for Mental Groove, Cassy & Dave the Hustler. Geneva was also where she met Luciano, co-producing 'La Ondita' on his album 'Blind Behaviour'. She also co-produced 'Alpine Rocket' with Mathew Jonson for Perlon.
After moving to Berlin in 2003 and being inspired by the club scene and music, she worked with artists such as Ricardo Villalobos and Steve Bug and has also had releases on Perlon Records. Recently she started her own label Cassy, She regularly spins at the Panoramabar in Berlin.
Tale of Us
Tale of Us are Berlin-based DJ and production partnership Karm and Matteo who are currently re-writing the rulebook for deeply moving, emotional electronic music. Together they share a sonic vision that pulls together elements of house and techno with influences from pop, nu-disco and even rock music. While all of their productions are instantly recognisable as Tale Of Us, these range from straight-up dance floor jams to low-slung ambient tracks and more abstract compositions. Already regular fixtures at clubs like Watergate and Weekend in Berlin, Tenax in Florence, Barraca In Valencia and DC10 in Ibiza they have grown up throwing secret loft parties called 'Just This', in their hometown of Milan. While both originally hail from North America, Karm was born in Toronto and Matteo in New York, they moved to Italy as children, which is where they met and formed the close working bond that they now share.
If it takes fifteen years to make an overnight hit, then Nicolas Matar has truly come of age. The story of house music has run from the New York underground via Ibiza to London and back around again many times over the past fifteen years – and as the chapters have unfolded, our man has been there to turn the page.
Nicolas has been DJing since the tender age of 15. He got an early head-start from his father, an original member of Studio 54 and a denizen of the 70′s New York club scene. “Dad was a hobbyist DJ and had an incredible collection of Disco, Funk and Soul records,” says Nicolas. “I grew up with a mini club in my basement. My parents used it to entertain their friends with my Dad behind the decks.
Nicolas’ musical style is very diverse, encompassing everything from Deep House, Soulful House, Nu-Jazz, Techno to Disco Classics. Like most globetrotting DJs, Nicolas spins regularly in the US, UK, Spain, Brazil, France, Mexico, Peru, Netherlands, Italy, Estonia, Greece, Finland, Canada, Singapore, Belgium, Korea, Hong Kong, Turkey, Japan, Indonesia and Switzerland. It is perhaps his greatest accolade that from 1993-2001, Nicolas was the resident DJ of the world-renowned Pacha in Ibiza. Nicolas credits those years during the golden era of House Music at Pacha as the inspiration for his eventual return to New York to build Cielo.
Nicolas opened Cielo in New York eight years ago. It was awarded an unparalleled 10 awards in its first five years and has become a reputable brand worldwide. In addition to being the co-owner/resident DJ, Nicolas handles all music programming and marketing at Cielo. Roger Sanchez, Francois K., Carl Cox, Louie Vega, Tedd Patterson, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Danny Tenaglia, and Frankie Knuckles are just a few of the Djs who play alongside Nicolas at Cielo on a regular basis.
Cielo just released its much-anticipated seventh compilation, Paradizo 2 to much acclaim mixed by Nicolas and fellow Cielo resident, Willie Graff. Cielo’s first compilation, Cloud 9, and its following compilations were a great success worldwide and amongst the best selling CDs in Ibiza during the summer. Nicolas has also mixed three other highly acclaimed DJ compilations: “Latitude 40″, and “Sundance” for the Journeys By DJ Label in the UK, and “Tropicalism”, for Razor and Tie in the US. Icelandic golden child in America and New York native just back from Europe, both Holmar and Greg have both dedicated themselves to the debaucherous worship of all good things that can happen in a dark crowded room with good lighting.
Bringing together a wide variety of influences from house to minimal and disco to techno, first and foremost these guys bring the party to the party. Releases on seminal labels Life and Death, Moodmusic, Music For Freaks, Brique Rouge, Global Underground and their own label, Thugfucker Recordings are proof that there's more to them than just a couple of pretty faces.
