Minas presents SYMPHONY IN BOSSA with Big Band and Strings
Come hear one of the largest bands to ever perform at World Cafe Live!
30 plus musicians, including the Minas Sextet, an entire big band, a string section, and surprise guest artists, will come together to perform original arrangements mixing American jazz and Brazilian samba. Ticket price includes the CD.
In 2004 Orlando & Patricia, from Brazilian music ensemble Minas, began a collaboration with arranger Bill Zaccagni to create a large-scale work written specially for Minas and enhanced by big band and strings. Ten years in the making, Symphony in Bossa encompasses the talents of nearly 50 musicians and is the culmination of 30 years in which Minas has been performing and making records in Philadelphia.
Symphony in Bossa is Minas' 6th commercial CD, and the first to include Brazilian classics - The Girl From Ipanema, Desafinado, Chega de Saudade, Manhã de Carnaval, Samba de Orfeu, Triste, Waters of March, and originals - Sinal Verde, Only the Moon and the Stars, Amazonia.
The CD features The Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia, under the direction of Terell Stafford, a string ensemble conducted by Anthony Pirollo, a Brazilian rhythm section (Adriano Santos, drums; Leonardo Lucini, acoustic bass, Zé Maurício, percussion), and many guest artists (Larry McKenna, Terell Stafford, John Swana, Tony Salicandro, Rob Hyman (The Hooters), and Steve Tirpak).
Symphony in Bossa will be performed live in its entirety featuring the Minas sextet (Orlando Haddad, guitar and vocals, Patricia King, piano and vocals; Andrew Neu, sax and flute; Adriano Santos, drums; Jim Stager, bass; Zé Maurício, percussion), with the University of Delaware Big Band and Strings, under the direction of Tom Palmer, plus guest artists.
Come celebrate this milestone in Minas’ career and take home this extraordinary CD included with your ticket, which is dedicated in memory of arranger Bill Zaccagni.
