I Am The Avalanche
AVALANCHE UNITED is the album I Am the Avalanche and their fans have been waiting on for over six years. The title "AVALANCHE UNITED" also embodies the resilient spirit of this band, and their deep bonds with their families, friends and fans who have supported and sustained I Am The Avalanche through thick and thin.
Vinnie Caruana (vocals), Brandon Swanson (guitar), Michael Ireland (guitar), Brett "The Ratt" Romnes (drums) and Kellen Robson (bass) formed I Am the Avalanche in the fall of 2004 and quickly released their debut self-titled album in 2005. Over the course of the next two years IATA toured the world relentlessly in support of this album, which quickly became a cult favorite among fans and the band's peers. Prior to forming IATA, Caruana had fronted the beloved and influential band The Movielife. His popularity as one of the most respected singers in the punk rock community helped the word spread quickly about his new band's incredible live shows. Before long IATA had established their own intensely dedicated following around the globe.
In 2006, IATA began writing and demoing new music for their follow-up album, and while the band continued to play rare performances and tour briefly over the next several years, they also came to the realization that they wanted and needed to return to their DIY roots and start anew. Self-managed, self-booked and almost completely on their own at that stage, the members of IATA became laser-focused on writing the best album of their careers.
Thus, six years after the release of their debut album, IATA returned to the studio to record their second: AVALANCHE UNITED. Set for release on October 11 on I Surrender Records, and produced by the band, and executive produced and engineered by their prolific drummer Brett "The Ratt" Romnes and mixed by Machine (Fall Out Boy, Every Time I Die, Four Year Strong), AVALANCHE UNITED is addictively melodic and blisteringly raw to its very core. Featuring 12 anthemic songs and absolutely zero filler, the album includes "Brooklyn Dodgers," the defiant "Holy Fuck", the epic and somber "Dead Friends" and "The Gravedigger's Argument," featuring Anthony Raneri from Bayside. Throughout, Caruana's distinctive voice drips with defiance, humor and proud vulnerability as he sings about hope, heartbreak, death, defying adversity and the bonds between family, lovers and friends.
And just seconds into first listening to AVALANCHE UNITED, it'll be immediately clear that I Am the Avalanche are back with one of punk's most powerful albums in years, unbroken and unbowed.
Wolves At Bay
WOLVES AT BAY is a band that methodically delivers a furious mix of frustration, anxiety, and depression. This is in full effect throughout the band’s latest effort, a 6 song EP called I Was The Devil Once. In a devastating track called Know Why, Hayes reflects on his self-doubt. He sings, “sifting through the things that I’ve done, and I think I know why nothing can stay right.” Through his exploration of these themes, vocalist William Hayes hopes to provide an outlet for the mental anguish we all go through. This is one of the most successful elements of I Was The Devil Once. Much of it carefully blurs the lines between hopelessness and hope, and leaves us to our own devices to decide what to take from its morose lyrics.
WOLVES AT BAY comes from Hamden, CT. The band is made up of William Hayes on vocals and guitar, Kevin Rodriguez on guitar, and Matt Smith on bass. The band cites SMALL BROWN BIKE and THURSDAY as influences, and it certainly shows in their music. There are also elements of BRAND NEW and late-era CRIME IN STEREO, as well as components of gruffer, more aggressive acts like POLAR BEAR CLUB and HOT WATER MUSIC. Wolves At Bay’s effective, tasteful take on all these different sounds results in a unique take on the post-hardcore and emo genres.
Over the past few years, the band has been incredibly prolific. In 2011, they released Only A Mirror and The Night A Forest Grew EP. They then wrote and recorded I Was The Devil Once in late 2012. The band plans to tour the country on this upcoming release. Given the strength of this latest batch of songs, it’s safe to say they have nothing but growth ahead of them.
The members of Canvas are no strangers to the Connecticut music scene.
Having garnered both local and national accolades through previous bands, including the Distance and Call It Arson, Canvas hopes to pick up where their other projects left off. Comprised of Ryan White (vocals/guitar), James Ward (guitar), Mario Nascimento (bass) and Nick Ward (drums), Canvas layers melody and a strong rhythmic foundation to create a dynamic rock sound that cant be categorized by one band or genre alone. Facing a music scene saturated with bands that prioritize image over substance, the New Haven based group seeks to make music that stems from a passion for creating something.
Growing up in the 90's, the members of Canvas were captivated by music, which drove them to make music of their own. Having toured constantly in other bands throughout the past decade, Canvas hopes to recreate this feeling in their audience through their live show. More than anything, it just feels like they're doing the right thing.
Life On The Sideline
Life on the Sideline is a band that glues honesty and passion firmly to their hearts. Nothing can rip apart the reasons the band started playing music: To help themselves and more importantly to help other people. With the finish of their first Full Length record; produced by Ryan Mogé at Valiant Recording and Mastered by Jim Forgarty at Zing Studios (A Day To Remember, The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath) the band has a lot planned for 2013 and onward.
