Informed by old school soul, funk, and jazz, The Sermon! is a funky quartet from the borough of West Chester, PA. Taking their name from the classic Jimmy Smith record, The Sermon! is primarily an instrumental, Hammond B-3 organ-driven group influenced by the stylings of Grant Green, Lonnie Smith, James Brown, Soulive, Bill Withers, MMW, and others. Climactic live performances are a staple to the band's high energy stage presence. Their focus is on making an impact on the music scene by performing a wide range of everyone’s favorites as well as original music.
Nadjah Nicole performs a standard serving of soul music with a pop and jazz twist. As a band, they continually explore their own given talents, and continue to make good music together.
As one of Philly's premier underground beat-makers, Hezekiah got his humble start singing in church and fronting his uncle's funk band. In 1986, Hezekiah received some hands-on training when his cousin brought home a four-track recorder and drum machine, and from then on, throughout his school years, he spent much of his free time making beats as a hobby. After graduating, Hezekiah hooked up with one of the few hip-hop acts based out of Delaware and created a mixtape called Exit Wound Status. As luck would have it, in 1993 he met up with The Roots at the peak of their success and started involving himself with Philadelphia's flourishing hip-hop scene. In 2005, New York's Soul Spazm label took notice and released his debut solo album, Hurry Up & Wait which featured Hezekiah rapping among guests Bahamadia, Scratch, Chief Kamachi, and Grand Agent. His next album, I Predict A Riot (Rawkus) was released a couple years later and named one of AllMusic.com's favorite "Hip Hop Albums of 2007". Hezekiah continued working behind the console, co-producing music for a Showtime series titled "Street Time" and creating tracks for singers Aaron Livingston and AAries. Hezekiah later released his third godchild, Conscious Porn in the summer of 2010, featuring artists such as Talib Kweli, Peedi Crack, Raheem DeVaughn, Bahamadia and Cody ChestnuTT. With three solo projects under his belt and countless contributions to projects of other artists, Hezekiah continues to leave his mark on the hip-hop and soul music scene.
