Fly-by-Night Dance Theater, Inc. announces the premiere of Passages, an evening-length performance with aerial dance, contemporary theater, commissioned live music, and film. Passages is an exploration of our relationship with mortality and how it impacts the phases of our lives. The work portrays the ways that human ties become laced with anger, love, forgiveness and compassion. Featured performers include Fly-by-Night dancers Janet Aisawa, Kirstin Dahmer and Julie Ludwick, with Special Guest Artists Robert Davidson, Rachel Duvall, Tamara Figueroa and Michael Fulvio and Live Music by Ken Pierson.
NOTE: This evening-length work is approximately one hour and will run straight through without an intermission. There is limited late seating.
Passages is conceived and directed by Julie Ludwick. Her previous multi-disciplinary work based on Amelia Earhart and was produced at The Flea Theater in 2008. Ludwick's artistic projects have received support from: Mabou Mines Artists' Suite, The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Meet the Composer, The Puffin Foundation, Frances Alexander Family Fund, Northern Manhattan Artist Alliance and The LaGuardia Performing Arts Center.
Composer Ken Pierson has written compositions for dance, theater, and the concert stage that have been performed nationally and internationally. His works for dance have been funded numerous times by Meet the Composer and significant collaborators include choreographers Kristofer Storey, Annabella Mazzoni as well as Julie Ludwick. Works for theater include A Midsummer's Night Dream and Falling Moon. He has done multiple arrangements for the Kiskeya Orchestra of works by Haitian composer Jean Jean Pierre for performances at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center.
Filmmaker Bianca Falco has a background in dance and aerial work and has done many collaborations with film director Massimo Monacelli of Perugia, Italy including a series of art/music videos. She was the Choreographer and Movement Director for the film "ALEX" which won "Best Fiction Film" and "Best Cinematography" at Cityvisions 2011 and is the winner of the Jury Award of the Directors Guild of America in the category “Woman/Eastern region” of the 17th Annual DGA Student Film.
Dramaturge James Bosley - a playwright, screenwriter, director and dramaturge with fellowships from Yaddo and MacDowell, and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU. He is the Artistic Director of UP Theater Company, producing dramatic new work in Northern Manhattan. Video
