Richard Pinhas

Richard Pinhas

Ceaselessly innovative in a career spanning more than 30 years, Richard Pinhas is recognized as one of France’s major experimental musicians. A composer, world-class guitarist and electronics innovator, he is a key figure in the international development of electronic rock music. His band Heldon fused electronics, “diabolical guitar work” and rock to create a pioneering, aggressive music that was a precursor to the industrial music and techno to come. New electronic and digital artists and DJs are emulating Pinhas’ work like UNKLE, Bill Laswell, Mille Plateaux Label artists, Merzbow or Four Tet. Since, Pinhas has continued to create new music, including a planned collaboration recording and touring with electronic noise rockers Wolf Eyes. Incorporating influences from and sharing aesthetics with the work of Fripp, Eno, Scanner, Autechre and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Pinhas’ new guitar / electronics / spoken word works have appealed to longstanding fans and attracting lot of new admirers.

Magas

In 1999, Jim Magas, with no knowledge or background in electronic music or its production set out to become a one-man force in electronic rock. Beginnings were shaky as Magas struggled to achieve the new sounds he was hearing in his brain. How could he make it more powerful? Magas began honing his new craft on the same stages that he once commanded as singer of LAKE OF DRACULA and COUCH. MAGAS' raw charm attracted the attention of Detroit's ADULT, who released BAD BLOOD and FRIENDS FOREVER on their Ersatz Audio imprint. At Ersatz headquarters, MAGAS got a crash-course in analog synthesizers and production. With a new improved sound and a couple of records under his belt, Magas began performing across Europe and North America, playing clubs, festivals, squats, basements, lofts and the occasional Tastee Freez parking lot. In between, MAGAS worked on remixes for BOBBY CONN, LES GEORGES LENINGRAD, ARTHUR BAKER and RA-X, building up his Wizardlook studio piece-by-piece. By the time MAGAS was set adrift by the hiatus of ERSATZ AUDIO, he had already built his studio to a point where he and was able to respond with his most powerful and individualistic solo work to date: MAY I MEET MY ACCUSER. Magas had finally achieved a sound that he had been striving for. Three years later, now in full command of this heavy new sound, MAGAS returns with his most turbulent and concise solo work to date: VIOLENT ARP. All songs were recorded at Wizardlook and once again mastered by former LAKE OF DRACULA partner WEASEL WALTER, this mini-LP on Punch Records will shake you in a new kind of way

Mark Solotroff

Mark Solotroff is a Chicago-based artist who works in visual, sound, and performance mediums. As a sound artist/musician, he founded the experimental industrial noise band Intrinsic Action in Chicago, in 1984, and he launched BLOODYMINDED, an aggressive, extreme electronics group, in New York City, in 1995. Solotroff is the vocalist in the darkly atmospheric doom metal band Anatomy of Habit, a group in which he actually puts his singing voice to work. An active band on the live front, the heavily anticipated debut Anatomy of Habit LP is due out in summer 2011. Solotroff rarely performs solo, under his own name, but those familiar with him know of his obsession with microphones and feedback loops.
