Earl Foss & The Brown Derby
Based in Madison, Wis., Brown Derby has been capturing what's good about country music for the past four years and bringing it to fans throughout throughout the Midwest, from threshermen's conventions to upscale concert halls. With a Wednesday night residency at Madison's Crystal Corner bar, the band has been refining its live act, intertwining original songs with those from classic bad-asses such as Buck Owens, George Jones and Johnny Paycheck.
From the Madison, A.V Club: "Earl Foss and The Brown Derby has settled into a regular Wednesday night gig at the Crystal Corner that's as filled with classic country as it is with hilarious interludes of random stage banter from singer-guitarist Foss (a.k.a. John Kunert) and bass player Nick Brown. The sharply dressed band plays covers from Merle Haggard and Buck Owens alongside originals like the ominous sounding "Bad News" off of 2006's This Drinkin' Life, all filled with clear, chiming guitar twang, a tightrope-walking rhythm section, and the nasally snarl of old-time country-western singers."
THE JIMMYS are what you get when you combine (A) the seasoned keyboard/Hammond organ talents of Jimmy Voegeli, long time member of Westside Andy/Mel Ford Band, (B) the drummer from The Georgia Satellites, (C) the four-piece horn section from Clyde Stubblefield's Band, and (D) the expertise of southern Wisconsin's finest bass guitar, and (E) the legendary blues guitarist Perry Weber on six-strings and vocals.
