Watch & Listen
Barbara Lynn Ozen, 16 January 1942, Beaumont, Texas. Lynn was signed up by producer Huey P. Meaux after hearing a demo tape and watching her perform in a Texas club. Her early records were recorded at Cosimo’s New Orleans studio and leased to the Jamie label. Composed by Lynn, ‘You’ll Lose A Good Thing’ (1962) was an R&B chart-topper and pop Top 10 hit in the USA, and was followed by ‘You’re Gonna Need Me’ and ‘Oh! Baby (We Got A Good Thing Goin’)’. The last of these was covered by the Rolling Stones on their album " Out Of Our Heads". Barbara issued several singles on Meaux’s own label, Tribe, among which was her version of ‘You Left The Water Running’ . Subsequent releases for Atlantic Records included ‘This Is The Thanks I Get’ and ‘(Until Then) I’ll Suffer’ , both of which reached the R&B chart for this accomplished singer, songwriter and guitarist. After taking time out to concentrate on her family, Lynn resumed touring in the late 80s, including visits to Japan, and recorded new studio albums for Ichiban Records, ITP and Bullseye Blues.
The Soul Supporters
The Soul Supporters play early soul, R’n'B, and blues with a sparse rhythm section, stinging guitar, and breathtaking gospel and blues-tinged vocal harmonies. The band’s equally formidable singers Lauren Cervantes and Angela Miller have picked up the torch of Austin blues sirens like Lou Anne Barton, Angela Strehli, and Marcia Ball, and are carrying it on with incredible harmony vocals that must be heard. Influenced by early R n’B artists like The Ikettes, Sugar Pie DeSanto, and Ruth Brown, the band is brewing a potent non-commercialized concoction of “retro-soul” with a growing number of tradition-inspired originals, and is flooring audiences everywhere they happen to play.
