Austin, TX local heroes Crooks have confirmed a May 19th release date for their new album ‘The Rain Will Come,’ produced by Danny Reisch (Okkervil River, White Denim, Spoon, Shearwater), and featuring guest appearances by Grammy-winning accordion legend Flaco Jimenez of the Texas Tornadoes.
Crooks are breathing new life into Austin’s country scene by playing it their way - “stripped of its crossover pop sheen and returned to its hard-drinkin’, rough-and-tumble roots” (The Onion AV Club). The Austin American-Statesman says their sound “exemplifies the genre at its hard-drinking, windswept best. It’s country from the Hank Williams Sr. school — damaged, dusty and bleary-eyed.”
In the last few months, Crooks have played Fun Fun Fun Fest, shared the stage with Deer Tick and Gary Clark Jr., were chosen as a “Best New Local Act,” by the Austin Chronicle Critics' Poll, and were heralded by KUT’s David Brown as his pick for “Austin artist most likely to score big in 2012.” They’ll also perform at SXSW 2012.
Here’s what sets Crooks’ brand of country apart: there’s no hokey-ness involved. Comparing Crooks’ country to Nashville radio country is like comparing Cormac McCarthy to ‘Walker, Texas Ranger.’ As Daytrotter described their sound, “There’s just that threat in the air, as if everything might turn purple and rough any second, should someone breathe on someone else incorrectly.”
As My Old Kentucky Blog put it, “these boys might want to look into losing their day jobs.” Here’s hopin’.

The Roosevelts

Bus Stop Stallions

The Bus Stop Stallions give a new life to the nostalgic days of 70's and 80's funk-soul, while giving an extra push with some pure, unadulterated rock and roll. A funk soul rock fusion complete with horns. A sound that has been described as the positive result of a street brawl between George Clinton & P-Funk, Sly and the Family Stone, with a few punches thrown in by the Godfather of Soul himself.

Formed in Austin in 2006, The Bus Stop Stallions have already accomplished quite a bit for an unsigned band. In 2007 they embarked on a tour of the western states, including California where they played the Mint in LA, Winston's in San Diego and Biscuits and Blues in San Francisco, as well as venues in Fresno, Sacramento, Eureka, Portland, and Pueblo, CO.

They released a new album (Don't Block It, 2010) and have upcoming shows in Austin at The Saxon Pub, Antone's, Momo's and in Corpus Christi at Dr. Rockit's. Recently they have played in Austin at La Zona Rosa, Momo's, and Antone's. In 2008 they played at many venues around Austin, including Speakeasy, Light Bar, Aces Lounge, Beso Cantina, Room 710, Headhunters, and RutaMaya.

Always involved in the Austin community, they have played at the Austin Convention Center during a Texas Lonestar Rollergirls bout; on Fox TV's Good Day Austin morning show; at The Austin Music Hall for the United Sounds of Austin: Las Nubes of Hope, Harmony and Peace concert; at Kenny Dorham's Backyard for the Black Star Coop Brewery; and at Scholz Garten for the Blues for Blue Skies benefit.
