For award-winning entertainer MORGAN KARR, luck is not something that happens to you; luck is something you create. A Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, Morgan was born in Nashville where he began voice & piano lessons at the age of nine. Growing up in the heart of Music City exposed him to genres ranging from country and gospel to pop music and musical theater. Through these influences and inspirations, he's cultivated a style that is unmistakably his own.
Following a successful 2010, where Morgan won first place in "Amateur Night" at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, Morgan released his self-titled EP on May 11th, 2011,co-produced by Grammy-nominated Producer Juan Patiño (Lisa Loeb's "Stay"), Kevin Fisher (Rascal Flatts, Sara Evans), and Cliff Goldmacher. The EP broke the top 100 Singer/Songwriters on iTunes in the first week of its release. In 2012 he won the John Lennon Songwriting Competition through Sonicbids to perform at the annual NAMM Convention in Anaheim.
Morgan has called Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Nashville home - but home is a feeling and his music, a reflection. Many may remember Morgan from his work on Broadway in the 8-time Tony Award and Grammy-winning pop musical "Spring Awakening," but along the way he has gained an international following. Morgan's videos have over 100,000 views on YouTube and he maintains active profiles on Twitter and Facebook. Most unique to Morgan is his online street team -- the 11:11 Army -- which boasts members from around the world. 11:11 is a reminder that inspiration can come in any shape or form or moment. The key is to remain open to it.
Mariah Carey once called Morgan "My biggest rival."
Then he woke up.
Matt Sucich (pron: Sue-Sitch) is from Astoria, Queens. He writes songs. He plays them with a guitar. He sings them with his voice. Sometimes he sleeps, but most times he's awake. You can find Matt somewhere in New York City, or other places…
2012 was a banner year for Queens, NY singer/songwriter Matt Sucich.
In June, Matt made his debut at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, TN, receiving high praise and pleasant comparisons from Andy Langer (Esquire Magazine) on his "Best Other Bands Of Bonnaroo" list - "Because this Queens singer-songwriter is trying to break your heart. What appear at first glance to be simple love songs quickly reveal a Wilco- and Iron & Wine-like depth (and desperation)." The list puts Sucich in esteemed company, including Michael Kiwanuka, Trixie Whitley, and Little Dragon. In addition, Matt performed at both SXSW & CMJ, which featured a set at JetBlue's "Live at T5″ concert series. In November Sucich released his 2nd full-length album, Layers, to a capacity crowd at NYC's Rockwood Music Hall.
If you're thinking this is some "flash-in-the-pan" story, it's more like a simmer, and Matt plans on keeping it that way. As a songwriter, Matt Sucich took his time developing a style and sound that, like any artist, may borrow from a wealth of influence but is distinctively his own. Influences range from Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, & Bruce Springsteen to M. Ward and My Morning Jacket. Although he only began cementing his place in the NYC music scene in 2010, it was the years prior that Matt spent cutting his teeth, performing with friends & various band incarnations at venues like The Living Room, The Bowery Electric, and Southpaw. In 2009 Sucich was fortunate enough to support the legendary Levon Helm at his Midnight Ramble in Woodstock, NY, and in 2010 he released his debut album, Jubilation & Jealousy, at Joe's Pub.
2013 will see Matt Sucich heavily promoting & touring behind Layers, including some more exciting shows and TV/FILM placement. For info, tracks, and video, go to http://esmatteo.com.
