This event is 21 and over
Secret Someones is the new project from established NYC singer/songwriters Bess Rogers, Lelia Broussard, Hannah Winkler, and drummer/multi-instrumentalist, Zach Jones. In 2012 alone, Bess toured as part of Ingrid Michaelson's backing band, penned the new Cheerios theme, and had her songs featured inshows like One Tree Hill and Pretty Little Liars. At the same time, Broussard was busy competing on NBC's The Voice and winning 2nd place in Rolling Stone's 'Choose The Cover' contest the year before. After spending the early half of 2013 touring the country with Hannah Winkler and Zach Jones, the foursome was compelled to join forces and Secret Someones was born. Drawing inspiration from bands like Weezer, Talking Heads, and the entire Tom Petty catalog, the band is pure songwriting excellence. A packed out debut show at Rockwood 2 in July showcased their combined power as performers and writers alike. Loud, fun, and catchy as hell, Secret Someones are collectively bringing it, and they're just getting started.
There are musicians, and then there are artists. Jay Stolar is an artist. A creative force of nature who not only sings and writes his own songs, but also produced his debut album and plays a multitude of instruments including guitar, bass, and piano with expertise and grace. Like Prince, Jack White and Sting before him, the one-man musical tour de force easily slides between one genre to the next, each tackled effortlessly with style. At his heart Jay Stolar is a soul singer bar none, falling somewhere between Bruno Mars and Smokey Robinson. Or James Morrison and Ray Charles. Or maybe Marc Cohn and Marvin Gaye with a splash of Daryl Hall.
As the former lead singer for the band Julius C, Stolar honed his natural front man skills in small clubs and dark bars, learning how to transform a room full of strangers into life long fans hypnotized with rapt attention and admiration, while connecting with audiences on a deeper, almost spiritual level. His live performances are celebrations of old school showmanship and heart.
Currently residing in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Stolar is an active and vibrant part of the NYC music scene. In 2012, he played CMJ, SXSW and a 24-week residency at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC. The Rockwood shows grew week to week packed with music fans and critics alike, all who raved about Stolar's natural charisma and timeless songs. In addition, Jay toured with Charlene Kaye, Alexz Johnson, and Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds throughout the United States. His song “Like You Do” was also heard on The CW Network's teen drama: “90210.”
2013 sees the release of Jay Stolar's brilliant debut album More Than We Think. The 10 track disc is packed with heart gripping songs including “Pick A Side,” “Holding You All Through The Night," Leading Me Down," the uplifting “Lost,” and the album's first single, “Like You Do.”
Ali Wadsworth is the daughter of a rock musician/chemical engineer and a tapestry weaver. Life and her father's job brought her all over the world, including Moscow to study opera, musical theatre in exotic North Jersey and Jazz at The University of Vermont. Her rock band UNLIKELY COWBOY brought her to Philly, which split off into GOOD OLD WAR, and Ali joined forced with her sister and formed GOLDIEBOX and Philadelphia super-group FANTASY SQUARE GARDEN.
When these bands disbanded (as most bands do), Ali and her little sister Claire decided to give national television a try. The Wadsworth Sisters were asked to audition for NBC's The Voice, and spent the summer of 2012 living in a Los Angeles hotel singing and filming. Ali just finished her first solo record with mega producer Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Floating Action, Man Man, The Sheepdogs) which will be a collection of songs given to her by her favorite songwriters. Debut Solo Album release is scheduled for October 5, 2013. Ali spends her time singing patriotic songs at MLB games and shooting bows and arrows.
