Grandpa's Cough Medicine
Grandpa's Cough Medicine is an outlaw bluegrass trio that ignores certain traditions of the genre, such as gospel themes and Blueridge mountain cabins, and instead focuses on frenetic picking, blazing tempos and dark subject matter. Bluegrass music is seldom played with such aggression and attitude, yet backed up by the musical competency and skill that embody the genre. The simple combination of flat picked guitar, Scruggs-style banjo, thumping upright bass and tight vocal harmonies are combined into a proverbial bluegrass hand grenade that explodes with foot stomping intensity. The Florida Times-Union included the band's CD "Jailbird Blues" among the top ten local albums of 2011.
Brownbird Ruby Relic
Reltone Records Recording artist, Brownbird Rudy Relic is the embodiment of the ‘modern-day’ blues music troubadour. Having started his career street busking throughout the United States, he eventually settled in New York City where he began to hone his unique musical style; acoustic holler blues. Just as much as turn of the century blues music was an amalgam of the influences of the day, Acoustic Holler Blues lays parallel to a similar synthesis; fusing early pre-war country blues styles with a multitude of other relevant (rhythm &) blues influences such as Hokum, Ragtime, Doo wop and Boogie-Woogie.
In true troubadour fashion; he has taken his music all over the world; a man, his guitar and a mission to purvey traditional blues music in a relevant contemporary light – moving the music forward rather than presenting it as ‘retro’ or as ‘revivalism”
He has played shows all throughout North and South America, Canada and Mexico as well as all over Europe, Australia and the Middle East.
His first album on Reltone Records, “Anti-Stereo Acoustic Holler Blues” has sold in excess of 6000 copies; an impressive feat in today’s independent blues scene. His sophomore release “I Am The Juke” was released in 2011. A new album entitled "Chicano Dynamite" was released in October of 2012.
funkUs is one of Orlando's most prolific and enduring bands. Dubbed "flavor rock" and declared "a guilty pleasure" (Orlando Weekly), their "groove heavy precision" (Orlando Sentinel) and often surprising blend of musical genres have inspired audiences statewide to move, groove and gather since 1998.
With 6 CD releases including contributions by many top Orlando/Tallahassee musicians with a notable cameo by Tom Constanten (formerly a member of The Grateful Dead), they continue to perform regularly coast to coast throughout Florida at premier music venues and festivals including the Bear Creek Music Festival (2009, 2011), the Orange Blossom Jamboree (2010-2011), Jambando In The Park (2010-2012) and many others. funkUs is also one of the founding members of Jambando in Orlando, Florida and has recently shared stages with Soulive, Victor Wooten, Jeff Coffin and the Mu'tet, Railroad Earth, The New Mastersounds, The Lee Boys, Zach Deputy and Consider the Source.
Their latest CD highlights the most musically adventurous incarnation of the band to date and marks 14 years as Florida's commercially challenged purveyors of flavor rock.
Toni Brown, author, musician and former publisher/editor of Relix Magazine, writes: "funkUs fits neatly into the eclectic jamband musical melting pot. The band possesses powerful blues leanings and intense R&B and funk rhythms. With an emphasis on meaningful songwriting and free-form jam exploration, their songs range from quirky and catchy to emotionally moving. The combination results in highly danceable, energetic grooves that reach dizzying, intoxicating highs or soothing, spiritual lows."
Lone Wolf is a one man band who consist of Bruno Esposito singing raspy, dirty, vocals, playing slide banjo, bass drum with his left foot and giving a thumb tap rhythm against the banjos snare like drum, while picking the strings and playing harmonica. This style creates a unique, real, authentic sound that is unlike anything you"ve ever heard.
