Sky White Tiger
Inspired by works of astrological mythology and the blurred lines between fantasy and reality, five-piece psych-pop band SKY WHITE TIGER formed in Brooklyn in 2009. After a decade of writing, recording, and performing independently with artists as far reaching as Radiohead, David Bowie, Sufjan Stevens, and The Polyphonic Spree, the five life-long brethren decided to take matters into their own paws. After a batch of supporting US tour dates with Rufus Wainwright and a few months in the studio with Brooklyn-based Producer Bryce Goggin, SKY WHITE TIGER has recently completed their debut LP - ELECTRA - to be released in 2012. Whether performing on a concert stage, art gallery, or planetarium dome, SKY WHITE TIGER fuses sound, costume and light design, transforming any space into the Tiger Realm of the endless imagination. Come Meowt and Play...
At this point you probably have a lot of questions. This man, this band… this PEGASUS WARNING. What is it? Who is it? It’s a vibration you’ve never heard, an energy never felt, a sonorous phantasmagoria never experienced. Whatever your inquiries or feelings may be, the answer is this: PEGASUS WARNING is everything you think it is and more.
PEGASUS WARNING (a.k.a. Guillermo E. Brown) sought an education in the other-worldly at an early age. Raised in New York, he was born to a Panamanian priest-wizard and an American ethnomusicologist-healer. He began his sonic deviations at the age of 5, and was soon led into the world of sound by his grandfather, a percussionist-electrician. He tried to remedy the disparate elements clinging the walls of his mind. He immersed himself with teachers, vagabonds, and visionaries; appearing, recording, producing, playing, and/or writing with a wide range of artists including: Anti-Pop Consortium, The Beat Kids, Anthony Braxton, Dave Burrell, CANT, Das Racist, Dj Logic, DJ Spooky, El P, Cochemea Gastelum, Vijay Iyer, Jahcoozi, King Britt, Mike Ladd, George Lewis, Jamie Lidell, Arto Lindsay, Spoek Mathambo, Mocky, William Parker, Lucky Paul, Vernon Reid, Matthew Shipp, Spring Heel Jack, TECLA, The Temper Trap, Theifs, Tortoise, Twin Shadow, Gordon Voidwell, the late David S. Ware, and Saul Williams.
Then, at the dawn of a new decade, there was a luminous explosion of consonances. Mysterious as silence overcome by the rapture of the Muses, he began composing a strange new mix of lyricism and soulful splendor. In 2010, it crystallized, and after touring the world, Jamie Lidell, co-produced a slew of tracks that would be the first terrestrial signs of what is now known as PEGASUS WARNING. The PEGASUS hoof struck solid ground, thunder bellowed, ideas and artistic forces collided creating a supernova of sound.
PEGASUS WARNING incorporates acoustic and electronic instrumentation, 8 bit noise, pounding hooves, beating wings, soulful melodies, and human-machine driven rhythms. Influenced by sovereigns of contemporary music like Sun Ra, Grace Jones, and Bad Brains, PEGASUS WARNING has been described by vocalist/producer Mike Ladd as “The System 2.0”. Filmmaker Harmony Korine deemed him, “a male Chaka Khan.”
2012 will see the release of PEGASUS WARNING’s WOOF TICKET EP (Plug Research) with coinciding videos by artist-visionaires like Wangechi Mutu, and remixes by sound-makers like Spoek Mathambo and Gordon Voidwell. The full length LP will debut 2013.
At this point you probably still have a lot of questions. This man, this band… this PEGASUS WARNING. What is it? Who is it?
The answer is simple:
Follow your impulses
Demand your dreams
Come down from the mountain
be a thunderous cloud
and heed your calling…
Northern Bells is a five piece indie-rock outfit hailing from Brooklyn via Ohio, Portland, and Maryland. A reincarnation of the fledgling lo-fi collective In Cadeo, Northern Bells creates an autumnal medley of indie and pop rock sensibilities. They've been celebrated as a more bombastic version of The National, combining the addictive melodies and epic crescendos of Annuals andThe Arcade Fire with a sprechgesang baritone lyricism reminiscent of Leonard Cohen & Jeff Tweedy.
Northern Bells is a collective of veterans from the Brooklyn music soundscape. Jared P. Scott (vocals, guitars) toured with The Hold Steady & Art Brut while in the post-punk trio Demander. He has recorded and toured with Franz Nicolay of The Hold Steady & Brain Viglione of The Dresden Dolls. Pete Sustarsic (drums) also plays in Oberhofer. Fresh off a tour with Matt & Kim, Sustarsic was heralded by Relix Magazine as “the best drummer at Lollapalooza". Dan Neustadt (keys) toured with The Hold Steady and played keys on their album Heaven is Whenever. A founding member of Anti-Social Music, Neustadt has also shared the stage with Wyclef Jean and played with World/Inferno Friendship Society. Chris Loxely (cello) has played his signature string landscapes with countless bands including Akron/Family and Ponyhof. Travis Tonn (bass) also plays with The Library is on Fire and was a founding member of Rails To Russia (w/ Eytan Oren of Eytan & The Embassy).
The smart songwriting skillfully alternates between brooding and anthemic to create a decidedly intimate listening experience as showcased in Keep it in the Dark - co-produced by Girls Against Boys' Eli Janney ofThe Soft Pack, Illinois, Ryan Adams & Wilco – the debut full-length record hits the streets in December 2012.
