October Singer Songwriter Showcase

October Singer Songwriter Showcase

Gable's monthly singer songwriter showcase featuring six artists at World Cafe Live. Each artist gets two 15 minute sets.

Big Tusk, Brooke Dicaro, Canyon, Matt Casarino, Robin Renee, The Sun Flights.

Big Tusk - http://bigtusk.bandcamp.com/

Big Tusk is a three-man/four-instrument band whose members met while students at Wesleyan and moved into a big house in West Philly last fall. Big Tusk mushes angular beats, crunchy sounds, and folky harmonies together in a way that, they hope, make you want to dance and get weird. Though generally found loafing in their basement lab, they get out many evenings to play venues in the Philadelphia area

Brooke Dicaro - http://www.brookedicaro.com/

Not fitting into any one specific genre, Brooke DiCaro combines elements of jazz and blues to create a unique sound of her own with a soulful blues voice accompanied by a ukulele and piano. From South Jersey she now plays throughout the tri-state area

Canyon - http://www.hellomynameiscanyon.com/

Currently hailing from Connecticut, Canyon. is a 28 year old vocal powerhouse. She is known by those that have seen her perform to be a captivating singer/songwriter with haunting and heart-wrenchingly honest songs. Performing with just an acoustic guitar, her catchy vocal melodies will immediately grab your attention while the intimate lyrics and stories she tells will keep your ears guessing. Known for performing with an intensely raw passion and conviction, her sound will cut you deep and hit a nerve

Matt Casarino -

Matt Casarino is best known ‘round these parts as “the other one, you know, the guy” in the dork-rock duo Hot Breakfast! But he’s been a singer/songwriter for years – in addition to writing all of HB!’s original music on their latest album 39 Summers, he’s released three albums of original material, most recently 2010’s All This Life (which is available at the iTunes and the Amazon)

Robin Renee - www.robinrenee.com

Robin Renée is Mantra-Pop! --accessible, lyric-driven alt-folk rock with a spiritual twist. Conscious and melodic with an edge, think of blending the voices of Chrissie Hynde and Joan Armatrading with the wordsmith intelligence of Elvis Costello and the mystical passion of kirtan chanting. Her recordings include In Progress, All Six Senses, Live Devotion, spirit.rocks.sexy, This., and the current single, “All I Am,” part proceeds of which support the anti-bullying You Will Rise Project.

The Sun Flights - http://thesunflights.bandcamp.com/

The Sun Flights are a Philadelphia based folk duo that was formed in 2012. With an emphasis on songwriting, they view their songs and stories as a continuation of the story-telling tradition and its deep roots in our collective histories. Their sound is a mix of interwoven vocals and rhythmic fingerpicked guitar.
