Crizzly is crunk. Straight up. Remember the mid-2000's, when everyone on MTV had platinum grills and was rollin' on 22's, sippin' syzzurp from diamond-encrusted pimp cups? Add about a thousand screaming decibels of bass blasts and some Dirty South swag and you've got Chris Lee Marshall.
Hailing from the tiny hamlet of Boerne, just a half hour up the road from San Antonio, TX, the little Crizzly cub was slammed from all sides by the media: cartoons, commercials, video games, Top 40 radio, and the internet. Raised on Space Jam and nurtured by Need for Speed and Adult Swim, it's no wonder Marshall is the absolute product of the Internet age. Influenced by the Gorillaz and Lil' Jon-era crunk, Crizzly set about turning the ho-hum club scene in San Antonio into a viable hotspot and home base for him and his crew. First experimenting with the upbeat frenzy of Euro-style electro, Marshall quickly found his sound in the bombastic, bass-laden dubstep scene. As his weekly events in The Alamo City were taking off, so were his viral remixes of Waka Flocka Flame's "Hard in da Paint" and Willow Smith's poetic epic "Whip My Hair," which propelled young Marshall to Internet fandom.
Now, only 20, the Crizzly brand is blasting into hyper drive. Producers nationwide and beyond are dropping his tracks left and right, including Diplo, Bassnectar, Flying Lotus, DJ Benzi, and even Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy fame. Promoters are scrambling to get Crizzly on their bills following major performances at Electric Daisy Carnival in Dallas and Las Vegas, as well as the inaugural Escape from Wonderland Halloween bash. He'll be kicking off 2012 at Lights All Night in Dallas with some of the biggest DJs and producers in the world like Tiësto, Girl Talk, Benny Benassi, Wolfgang Gartner, Flux Pavilion, and more, and will be spreading his signature crunkstep sound to both coasts and everywhere in between in the coming years. Poised on the cusp of superstar status, fans everywhere can't wait for their next Crizzly attack. Crunk is back.
Josh Gard has had a long history in music, and lately he has been rapidly rising up the ranks for all things bass. Just a few short years ago he donned the name Figure and began making electro house, but has since become a regular name in all realms of electronic and dance. Scoring positions among the charts may have gotten him recognition, but a hefty amount of praise has been raining down on him lately as some of the leading artists in electronic music have valued his live performance skills as some of the best in the business.
With releases alongside industry heavyweights Diplo, Tommy Lee, Flux Pavilion, Excision, BT, Tommy Sunshine, and Borgore, as well as a robust catalog of originals, bootlegs, and remixes, Figure's signature sound has earned him a cult following amongst a growing number of insatiable fans. In 2011, his Monsters of Drumstep series married his love of horror with his immense production skills to become the soundtrack for the Halloween season. His follow up "Destruction Series" added a new ride to the amusement park with twists and turns through an intergalactic electro war armed with robots and missile drop laser synths.
"I just like how artists present a package of something close to an adventure... Like a theme park of sound that is an experiment and experience for everyone," states Gard.
When he's not on tour or recording in his hometown studios in rural Indiana, Gard is touring worldwide, with packed tents at festivals like EDC, SnowGlobe, Starscape, The Bounce, Creamfields Australia, and Belgium's Dour. His constant interaction with fans is more akin to maintaining a healthy family than what one usually finds in a social media marketing age. Supporters are supplied with the latest productions for free and the guest list is reserved for fans in need.
