.Born from the rolling thunder of the Tennessee mountains, New Madrid now calls Athens, GA home.
Formed in late 2010, New Madrid plays a diverse blend of southern-psychedellia, drawing from alt-country and noise-rock alike. Their music is equally attainable on a long open drive or sitting in a dark room. These four young performers create captivating soundscapes that are simultaneously dense and expansive. With reverb-drenched vocal harmonies that soar over a lush and textured musical patchwork, New Madrid evolved seamlessly from bedroom project to polished quartet. They are now at the forefront of a new generation of bands emerging from Athens' storied scene; embracing contemporary challenges, while setting a course of their own. New Madrid has solidifed into a key facet of the Athens sonic revitalization.
In 2012, the band recorded and independently released their debut full-length album Yardboat, mixed and tracked by legendary Athens engineer/producer David Barbe (REM, Drive-By Truckers, Deerhunter) at his Chase Park Transduction studio. The album was recorded almost completly live and on traditional analogue tape over an impressive three-day stretch. It was then mastered by Brooklyn based engineer Joe Lambert (Animal Collective, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Dan Deacon).
Following their first release, the band has steadliy toured the country, from Austin, TX to NYC. Given their proclivity for writing and recording, paired with constant touring and high-energy live performances, New Madrid has turned their creative ingenuity into the band's driving force.
In May 2014, New Madrid signed to Normaltown // New West Records with a follow-up album due out early 2014.
In June 2013, voted "Artist of the Year" and Yardboat recieved "Album of the Year" honors at Athens' Flagpole Music Awards
Orlando trio fronted by Daniel Hanson dedicated to delivering the soul of rock n roll, quickly.
From Under the Rock: Fast Preacher By Ty Wright
"Daniel Hanson ran into a problem when he realized that all though he could play drums, bass and guitar for a Fast Preacher recording, it would be nearly impossible for him to play them all at the same time for a live performance.
In what started off as a solo project, Fast Preacher has grown into a trio of old high school friends — Hanson (guitar), Chris McCallister (bass) and Nicholas James (drums); all who provide vocals of some sort."
