Bukue One

For a short period in the early 90's the parallel worlds of hip-hop and skating went askew and converged. At the time both were still perceived by the mainstream as antisocial behaviors and temporary fads. Hip-hop was not "real music." Skating was not a "real sport." In 2006, these perceptions couldn't be further from the truth, as both disciplines have become fully integrated into the mainstream consciousness, not to mention multi-billion dollar industries.

Serendipity Project

A new breed of hip-hop, Serendipity Project works hard to promote conscious thought through positive vibes. Combining jaw-dropping lyricism and sultry female vocals with high-energy hip hop and funk, the band has won over crowds young and old.
Having toured throughout Canada & The US with Del the Funky Homosapien (Gorillaz, Hieroglyphics, Deltron 3030) & Bukue One, the group has also embarked on a few mini tours with hip hop legend KRS One, beat-box extraordinaire Radioactive and have been featured on popular summer music festivals such as the Harmony Festival, 2006 Missoula Hempfest and in August ’07 they’re set to rock the 2007 Olympia Hempfest.
Helping to create a positive local hip hop scene in their hometown of Santa Cruz, the band originally held down a weekly gig called ‘Hip Hop Nights’ pairing underground acts such as Josh Martinez, Sleep, Psalm One, Qwel, Bicasso and Z-Man with the best local talent in the area. Lasting almost 3 years, the nights got so popular that they were able to move up from the neighborhood dive bar to the biggest nightclub in town. Out of these weekly gigs arose Santa Cruz’s first Freestyle Battles where local and not-so-local MCs were able to hone their skills. Following the release of their first album, “Accidents Happen…” the band decided to give up ‘Hip Hop Nights’ and start focusing on the music. Since then, the band has transformed into a powerhouse of on-stage energy, raw, uncut free-funk grooves and positive vibes.
Serendipity Project have shared the stage with well respected artists such as Lyrics Born, Del The Funky Homosapien, Lateef, The Pharcyde, Zion I, Haiku D’Etat (Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, Mikah 9), Souls of Mischief, Bukue One, Canibus, Crown City Rockers, Speech of Arrested Development, Tre Hardson, Fishbone, Tha Liks, Digital Underground, War, Cake, Bob Weir, Spearhead, Ozomatli, 2 Live Crew, Al Howard, Vince Wellnick’s Avalon Allstars, Luna Angel and C-Rayz Walz amongst many others.
Rooted in Santa Cruz, CA, Serendipity Project has been accumulating an ever-expanding and loyal following, having played over 350 shows throughout the Northwestern United States and Canada since the group’s inception in 2003.
The band is comprised of MC Knowble, Vocalist/Saxaphonist Alma Carlson, Dave Moilanen on Keys, Itay K on Guitar, Finn Stobbe on Bass, Keith Wieland on Drums and DJ Spinobi (formerly of Ozomatli) on the 1’s & 2’s. With extensive musical backgrounds ranging from garage bands to jazz bands to a Grammy award-winning group, each member of Serendipity Project brings their own unique influences into the creation of the band's sound.
Their forthcoming album, “The Project”, though still very much in progress, aims to be a true testament to the heart and soul of the hip hop generation – unifying genres to create a sound that truly captures the spirit of today’s youth. It features Gift of Gab and a few of the acts that the band has encountered on stage and on the road touring in their graffiti-soaked short bus (painted by different artists before every tour).
