Poolside (DJ Set) w/ Luke The Knife of Lotus, MantaRay (Denver Disco) and Sam Warren

Filip Nikolic and Jeffrey Paradise are good friends who are inspired by California, mezcal, dancing, good food, and friends. Filip is a Danish producer now living in LA who plays bass in Ima Robot; Jeffrey throws the infamous Blow Up party in San Francisco and used to be in the hardwave band the Calculators with Luke and Vito from the Rapture. Poolside’s debut single “Do You Believe?” was charted by Todd Terje, Dimitri From Paris, and The Magician, and Dazed & Confused praised the song for its “pop-tinged disco, brimming with optimistic vocals and retro acid synths,” while NME lauded its “supremely casual decadence.” “Take Me Home,” Poolside’s second song to be released, was the first song on Aeroplane’s In Flight Entertainment compilation. Poolside’s debut album Pacific Standard Time was released in 2012.

Luke The Knife

After nearly 10 years of composing and playing guitar and keyboards for the band Lotus, Luke Miller turns his musical skills and experience towards the DJ booth. The idea was to bring funk and disco back to the dance floor in an EDM world that's sounding more and more digitized. In the Fall of 2012, Luke started working on remixing and re-editing tracks, and by the end of December, Luke the Knife was born.

Performing both standard DJ sets and live sets that incorporate guitar and keys along with guest drummers, percussionists, and saxophonists, Luke the Knife started with a few packed shows in Colorado, where he currently resides. For the first show outside the state, he sold out B.B. King's Lucille's Room in Times Square for a 2 1/2 hour dance party that left people asking for more, even at 4 in the morning. Now, he is hitting the road to open up for Chicago's electronic rock stalwarts Future Rock on select dates, including New York City, Philadelphia, and Chicago.

Harkening back to the days when editing tape required an X-Acto Number 2, Luke's cuts merge the old and the new, utilizing modern production techniques to give a bigger punch to the funky tracks of yore. Luke has released over 20 remixes/re-edits and 8 continuous mixes that have been streamed and downloaded on SoundCloud. The response has been strong for both releases and live shows, with The Untz stating, "This is booty-shaking music," and Live for Live Music proclaiming, "[Luke] blends a healthy mix of Funk, Disco and Dance for a mind-blowing performance."

Flying through outer space MantaRay leaves a wake of rainbow stardust in his trail. Distributing Sexy NuDisco and French House mixes throughout the far reachers of outer space MantaRay has developed his own blend of original Space Junk w the release of the Space Cadet EP in 2012.Shifting gears to focusing on Deep House and NuDisco twenty-thirteen has been careening along at light speed for this shooting star with opening slots for Tropicool ,Christian Martin, Worthy, The Polish Ambassador, Signal Path, Abakus, Penguin Prison as well as playing to a crowd of over 1000 at Denver's Ogden Theatre to culminate a 3 night tour with Conspirator.
Mixes are created using the S4 and countless hours of editing & re-editing tracks to give MantaRay sets a signature flair as almost every track mixed is a edit/re-edit of the original version. Using the S4 over Cdj's allows MantaRay to play these edits live turning the turntables into more of a musical instrument than an interface.Striving to create a constant mix, MantaRay is a mash up master creating 3 and 4 track mixes in the height of his sets! Expanding his horizons with the formation of the group Space Race, residency with Denver Disco, & an hour set at Electric Forest Festival the future is bright for this starchild.

Occupying the twilight zone between deep house, nu disco, and techno, Sam Warren’s eclectic and pulsating sound pays homage to the clubs and dancefloors around the world that birthed it. His love for soulful, forward-thinking house music is steeped in an affinity for complex, haunting melodies that somersault the crowd and infect every set he plays. Barely an infant in DJ years, within 9 months Sam had already begun holding down residencies all over Washington D.C. and sharing the stage with D.C.'s house veterans. Between supporting artists like Plastic Plates, teaming up with JD Productions, and a forthcoming move to the West Coast, big things are just over the horizon.
