At Merriweather - VANS WARPED TOUR
At Merriweather - VANS WARPED TOUR
Vans Warped Tour is a "punk rock summer camp" on wheels where music, athletes and lifestyles co-mingle and thrive in an atmosphere dedicated to music fans of punk, alternative, hip-hop, ska, pop punk, electronica, alternative rock, emo, hardcore and more. Now entering its 17th year, the VWT has become America's longest running festival concert tour and reaches more than 600,000 kids every summer. Warped is also responsible for introducing music fans to such artists as No Doubt, Katy Perry, Blink 182, Papa Roach, Sublime, My Chemical Romance, Eminem and Fall Out Boy, among hundreds of others, as well as creating the blueprint for concert tour sponsorship integration that is now used throughout other tours today.
Less Than Jake
Less Than Jake
It's been a wild and crazy ride for Gainesville's Less Than Jake, who first met at the University Of Florida over a decade and a half ago. But instead of kicking their feet up and resting on their laurels, the ever-busy quintet have been working hard on the next chapter of Less Than Jake. Successfully extricating themselves from their major label contract (even though they still owed one more record to the label), they started their own label, Sleep It Off Records, and now are in the driver's seat. "After a decade an a half of being in the band, we are now our own bosses for real and the excitement of that can peel paint off the walls," says drummer Vinnie.

Before the band starts recording a new album this Spring (for release in the Summer 2008), however, they are planning the re-release of albums from their catalog… and first up are Pezcore, Losers, Kings and Things We Don't Understand, Goodbye Blue and White, and the DVD The People's History of Less Than Jake (more re-releases are planned for the future). "We wanted to start with Losers, Kings, And Things We Don't Understand, which was our first recorded material as a band," Vinnie continues. "These literally are some of the first songs we recorded together, and it seemed obvious that it should be one of the first releases on our newly started record label Sleep It Off. As a musician, the fact that I can help not only in creative marketing but release the actual audible history of our band on our own label is mind blowing. I think it's a great time for the Music Industry that, despite the lagging sales, you are allowed to write and rewrite the rules. These days, it's like the Old West, so to speak."

Through their decade and a half career, they've traveled the world multiple times -- with the Warped Tour, opening for Bon Jovi, and as headliners. "Each record is a snapshot of who the band is and was at the moment of writing and recording," Vinnie says. And what better way to revisit their history than with a fresh new take on their old material. Each re-release will come with all new artwork and a bonus DVD of previously unreleased material.

"If you look at the career of our band you have the roots of the tree and that's our initial inspiration that we used for the band, which was East Bay pop/punk; Screeching Weasel, early Green Day, Operation Ivy," Vinnie says. "If you look at that as the roots, then you have our career as the body of the tree, and the leaves are the latest inspirations of things, whether they're friends, family, or whatever."

"People have a preconceived notion that Less Than Jake is a ska/punk band, that we're wacky and silly, and that may be a certain side of ourselves live, but there's also another side and that's a beautiful thing about our band - it's multi-headed," he says proudly. "We can be different things at different times; we can be socially relevant and we can still be musically relevant 16 years after being together, still progressing musically, not only as players, but as far as musical direction. We can jump outside the box of what people expect, and now that we're in control, what you'll be getting is Less Than Jake -unfiltered and over-amplified."
Relient K
Relient K
Relient K played its first gig in December 1997, back when Matthew Thiessen and guitarist Matt Hoopes were still in high school and tooling around in the latter’s Plymouth Reliant K, which inspired the band’s name. The group recorded its first demo the following year with producer Mark Lee Townsend, who has worked on each of the band’s subsequent full-length albums (although Five Score And Seven Years Ago was largely produced by Howard Benson).

In the ensuing decade, Relient K has released five full-length albums (of which three have been certified Gold), five EPs and a Christmas collection, toured incessantly, scored a string of hit singles, a Grammy nomination and two Dove awards, and performed on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and numerous other national TV shows. The Los Angeles Times praised Relient K for “its smart blend of punk pop and power pop, weaving together influences as diverse as the Beach Boys, Blink-182 and Fountains of Wayne” while Spin noted: “Few bands play punk-influenced modern rock as proficiently.” But the band’s quirky sense of humor remains intact and there’s a fresh excitement about the future.
August Burns Red
August Burns Red
There are a galaxy's worth of metal bands active today. But stare at all of those stars long enough and some lines start to
form; everything starts to take shape. The Constellations begin to bloom.
Just two years ago, Lancaster, PA's AUGUST BURNS RED were, to the naked eye, just another young band jockeying for position in the modern metal scene. Then came Messengers, the band's 2007 full-length release for Solid State Records, and a new frontrunner emerged. Without hype, devoid of any smoke and mirrors, the album debuted at #81 on the Billboard charts, going on to ever-so-quietly sell more than 80,000 copies. Fueled only by the honesty and dynamism of the music, fans multiplied exponentially, driving ABR's MySpace plays well past the 17 million mark and flocking to the band's 2008 headlining tour – which included sold-out venues across the country.
Meanwhile, AUGUST BURNS RED kept their heads down, conquering fans at Warped Tour, on the Take Action tour and at destinations from Dubai to Dallas, and increased their profile through placement of their beloved take on "Carol of the Bells" on the movie trailer for "The Spirit." The band also packed up their Phillies T-shirts and ever-present flip-flops and headed overseas for a tour of 12 countries throughout the UK and Europe. The star was shining bright. "It's extremely encouraging to see your band growing," says guitarist and primary songwriter JB Brubaker with characteristic modesty. "It helps keep you motivated and forces you to set the bar higher so that you can continue to grow and put out the best music you're capable of writing."
To that end – the band returned to the studio this past February to record its hotly anticipated follow-up with lauded producer Jason Suecof (SEVENDUST, ALL THAT REMAINS, TRIVIUM). Fans flocked to the band's in-studio Stickam site by the tens of thousands to observe the band recording the album in real time. The result was Constellations, the third full-length offering from AUGUST BURNS RED, set for release on July 14. A crushing metal tour de force, the album pushes ABR's trademark aural blitz into directions previously unexplored by the band. "We spread our creative wings a bit on Constellations," says JB. "But I can say for sure that this record will definitely be as unrelenting as our previous ones." Accenting the blistering guitar work and syncopated breakdowns that AUGUST BURNS RED fans have grown to love are dynamics previously unexplored by the band. Constellations features more diverse tempos and cohesive song compositions than on previous ABR records, as well as the band's maiden voyage to the land of guitar solos.
"We've managed to push ourselves as musicians, as lyricists and performers," says drummer Matt Greiner. "As a whole, I feel like we're expanding, reinterpreting and refining our sound." That kind of sonic wanderlust has pushed AUGUST BURNS RED since the members first united in 2003 while still in high school. Armed with fearless innovation, uncanny technical ability and an innate near-classical songwriting style, the band started turning heads immediately upon the release of its 2005 Solid State debut, Thrill Seeker. The band's 2007 sleeper hit, Messengers, minted ABR as one of the pacesetters of the next generation of metal bands. The band has already proven to be the type that gets kids to put down Guitar Hero and pick up an actual guitar – look no further than the number of bands on MySpace that list ABR as an influence. With Constellations, that swelling army of fans will make sure that there's a racket from day one. "I am probably as excited for Constellations to come out as our most diehard fans," Brubaker exclaims. "I'd like to think there is something for everyone on the new album."
Already one of the year's most anticipated metal albums, Constellations will make good on the promise of the past two years, and will serve as proof-positive that AUGUST BURNS RED's success is no mere solar flare-up. This supernova's here to stay.
Asking Alexandria
Asking Alexandria
Asking Alexandria are an English metalcore band from York, North Yorkshire, formed in 2008. Founded when rhythm guitarist Ben Bruce contacted old friends after moving back to England from Dubai, the current line-up consists of Bruce, vocalist Danny Worsnop, lead guitarist Cameron Liddell, bass guitarist Sam Bettley and drummer James Cassells.
The Devil Wears Prada
The Devil Wears Prada
The Devil Wears Prada, formed in 2005 in Dayton, Ohio, started out riding high on Rise Records, releasing Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord which scanned over 50,000 copies and Plagues which has sold over 100,000 copies. In 2008, right before embarking on the Van’s Warped Tour, The Devil Wears Prada announced their signing with Ferret. The band composed of Jeremy DePoyster (guitar/vocals), Daniel Williams (drums), Mike Hranica (vocals), Chris Rubey (guitar), Andy Trick (bass) and James Baney (keys) has been incredibly busy since the release of Plagues, including headlining multiple tours in the US and internationally and have also been featured on multiple festivals worldwide.
A Day To Remember
A Day To Remember
Rising from the punk rock hotbed of Florida in 2003, Josh Woodard (bass), Alex Shellnutt (drums), Neil Westfall (guitar), Jeremy McKinnon (vocals) and Tom Denney (guitar) formed A DAY TO REMEMBER, crafting a blend of the music they loved into a niche of their own. Their debut on Indianola records sold 8,000 copies with little promotion, and attracted the attention of Victory Records, who signed them in 2006. “When we first got signed, our goal wasn't to blow up or even sell a ton of records,” recalls bassist Josh Woodward. “All we wanted to do was stay on tour, and play to as many kids as possible.” The result exceeded even their expectations, as the infectious, explosive energy of their live shows helped them organically grow a fanbase that multiplied each time they played.
With the release of their breakthrough album For Those Who Have Heart, A DAY TO REMEMBER went global. In the two short years after its release in early 2007, the band grew from a small band with a dedicated local fan-base into a worldwide phenomenon, gaining the respect and adoration from their peers as much as their fans. This is no overnight success – the band has worked hard to win over every fan they make. But the ‘perfect storm’ of their dedication, rapidly-spreading buzz and undeniable musical abilities have made this young band one of the most talked about bands in rock, gaining themselves a coveted slot in Alternative Press’ Most Anticipated Albums 2009 issue.
Their new album Homesick sees them using their ascension as a springboard, ready to launch them into the big time. “Homesick is a culmination of 2 1/2 years of being gone on the road,” Woodard notes. “It represents what we've been through, what's ahead of us,and the lessons we've learned in between. It's the heaviest and catchiest record we've ever written, and we couldn't be more excited for people to hear it. We're all so proud of what we just made, and think it really sets us up to jump to that next level.” In an industry where you have to evolve to stay ahead, A DAY TO REMEMBER is standing defiant, leading the genre-straddling pack in a battle cry, ready for the fight of their lives. Grab your friends, “disrespect your surroundings”, and watch A DAY TO REMEMBER set the world alight. The mainstream won’t know what hit it.
Attack Attack!
Attack Attack!
A Cardiff, Wales, band brought together by a strong love of punk, grunge, and new wave, Attack! Attack! UK first started blowing audiences away in 2007. Their frenetic electro-screamo brand of 21st century attitude was a quick success, and by 2008, the band signed a deal with American label Rock Ridge and released its debut (a self-titled affair) that same year. In addition to garnering attention from the professionals in the biz, Attack! Attack! UK also managed to create quite a buzz with the civilians and colleagues in the rock music universe, sharing stages with such names as Lostprophets, Go:Audio, and Funeral for a Friend. The members of Attack! Attack! UK were no strangers or newbies to the scene, however. Neil Starr (vocals, guitar), Will Davies (bass), and Ryan Day (drums) had earned their stripes and honed their chops as part of such former outfits as Dopamine, Adequate Seven, Midasuno, and Petes Sake. In addition to a strong reception to their album from the rock press, Attack! Attack! UK landed the band a rather high-profile festival appearance, storming the stages at 2008's Reading and Leeds Festivals in England. ~ Chris True, All Music Guide
Simple Plan
Simple Plan
Hands up, who's sick of debating what is or isn't "punk"? If you're reading this, chances are you've already made up your mind about Simple Plan. But maybe it's time to forget what you know, because Simple Plan couldn't care less about people's opinions of them. Simple Plan have spent the last year channeling their energy, positivity and, yes, sometimes frustration, into their music. And no matter how you want to label their music, the 11 songs on the band's highley anticipated second album, Still Not Getting Any… proves that SP are not a punk band, a pop band, a rock band or whatever label you can come up with… they are just a great band… a band that strives to write great songs and put on a hell of a show!

Admittedly, a lot has happened since the Montreal, Canada band--vocalist Pierre Bouvier, drummer Chuck Comeau, bassist David Desrosiers and guitarists Sebastien Lefebvre and Jeff Stinco--released No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls… in the spring of 2002. Aside from selling a couple of million albums, the group have shared the stage with everyone from Rancid to Aerosmith; made appearances on the Vans Warped Tour for three years running (two as Headliners), and been nominated for four MTV Video Music Awards--not bad for five kids who used to tour in their parents' station wagon.

"Songs about cars and partying do nothing for me," explains Comeau. "I like songs where I listen and it makes me shiver." That said, you may want to don a parka while listening to Still Not Getting Any…, because it's packed with shiver-worthy moments: "Crazy," chronicles the insecurities each of us go through on a daily basis (yes, even if you're a rock star), while "Perfect World," struggles to make sense out of loss. However, for a while, it looked like these songs would never come together.

"For us songwriting is a craft we really have to work hard at," admits Comeau. After the band wrapped their first U.S. headlining tour with MxPx last February, Comeau and Bouvier spent three months in Vancouver writing every single day for the new album, throwing away more ideas than they came away with. "At first we had trouble coming up with stuff we loved, so we just kept writing and writing… never giving up. After months of doing this and pushing each other, it just came together," Bouvier explains. 'Perfect World' was one of the first good songs that we got, and from there the songs just started coming out of us like a waterfall."

When it came time to record, the band enlisted famed producer Bob Rock (the man behind some of Metallica's, Mötley Crüe's and Bon Jovi's biggest records). The vision behind Still Not Getting Any… was simple… the band would not restrict themselves to the punk genre, which ironically seems to have more rules than one can keep track of these days.

"I think on the first record we just wanted to write a pure pop-punk record, and on this one we didn't care--we just wanted to write good songs," explains Comeau. Bouvier has a fitting analogy for the band's approach: "As an artist, why limit yourself to just doing certain things?" he asks aloud. "It's like being a painter; do you decide to only use seven or eight colors, or blend the colors together and make the most beautiful painting possible. From the deeply personal story behind the album's lead single "Welcome To My Life" to the insanely exhilarating guitar solo on "Promise", this illustrates the band's approach to songwriting.

Granted, Still Not Getting Any… isn't going to be in the trip-hop section of any record store, but there are some surprises, be it the subtle but powerful interludes in "Shut Up", the cool and yet intricate drum loop on "Perfect World", the beautiful string section and touching lyrics you can hear on "Untitled", or the epic string arrangement on "One." "Thank You" recalls the early 90's melodic punk bands who influenced Comeau and Bouvier's old hardcore band, Reset.

The record is a bit different from the first one, but it's still us," Lefebvre is quick to point out. However, although Simple Plan are open to experimenting with the formula that made them famous, their biggest concern is not letting down their fans, because, that's who this album is for. "The connection between us and our fans is the most important thing we have," explains Desrosiers. "They'll ultimately be the ones who make or break our album, not some music critic who's already made his or her mind up about us," Stinco adds. "Without them, I would probably be working a nine-to-five job that I hate."

In the end, the band speak best though their lyrics, and during "Shut Up" when Bouvier sings, "Nothing you say today will ever bring me down," it's not calculated rebellion--it's the truth. So, whose side are you on?
Gym Class Heroes
Gym Class Heroes
Out of upstate New York has come an inventive new group that is beginning to make their mark on the music world. Instead of the conventional looped samples and canned beats, Gym Class Heroes is a 5 piece hip-hop band that uses live instruments and musicians instead of looped samples and canned beats. The band has produced an original hip-hop sound fusing crisp guitar rhythms, deep melodic bass lines, head cracking beats, and conscious lyrics to create a sound that is truly their own. In April of 2004, GCH entered a New York recording studio on a minimal budget. They returned four days later with a brand new album entitled The Papercut Chronicles. Laced with honesty and sincerity, the record captures the complexity of Gym Class Heroes as people, while showcasing phenomenal song writing abilities way beyond their age. On tracks like "Make Out Club" and the CD opener "Papercuts", front man Schleprok displays a sly and witty sense and an ability to write conceptual songs that are as humorous as they are serious. Sooner than the album could even be mixed and mastered it landed in the hands of Pete Wentz, from Fall Out Boy (Island Records/Fueled By Ramen Records). Before the group knew it, they were in talks with representatives from several record labels and management companies, ultimately signing with Florida based record label, Fueled By Ramen.

The bands current release, "The Papercut EP" serves as a pre-release to the full length "The Papercut Chronicles", which is due to hit stores in February.

Pepper
Pepper
PEPPER, comprised of guitarist/vocalist Kaleo Wassman, bassist/vocalist Bret Bollinger and drummer Yesod Williams, formed in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1997. Having grown up surfing on the island, it’s not a wonder that they would mix their rock “shock and ah” flare, along with their mellow island rhythm roots to create their own truly diverse sound. They have also been known to hypnotize fans of all walks of life with their incredibly sweet harmonies all the while keeping bodies moving on the dance floor. The trio played mostly house parties and garages before finally shipping out to San Diego, CA in 1999 to push their first studio release Give’n It.

In 2001, they entered the Volcom warehouse studio with Steve Kravac (Blink 182, Less Than Jake, MxPx) to record Kona Town, which included the hit single “Give it Up (Dirty Hot Sex)” – which has become one of KROQ’s most played songs to date. On the heels of that success, PEPPER retreated into The Hive, a completely analog studio and home of 311, with legendary producer Ron “The Saint” St. Germain (Bad Brains, Living Colour, 311, Tool, Sonic Youth, Soundgarden) to record In With the Old. When the dust settled from the flurry of large-scale tours, the band recorded the expansive No Shame (originally released by Warner Bros.), which featured a slew of exciting producers including 311’s Nick Hexum, No Doubt’s bassist Tony Kanal and current partner in crime Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers.

PEPPER has sold over half a million records independently and founded their own record label, LAW Records – through which three other artists’ music is distributed: IRATION, Passafire, and The Supervillians. Their music has appeared in many movies (including Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Good Luck Chuck), television shows and video game soundtracks as well as having had a number of album tracks appear on Billboard’s “Alternative Songs” chart (including No Shame’s “No Control,” which peaked at 18, and “Give It Up” which peaked at 34). Their song “Your Face,” also from No Shame, is now available for Guitar Hero World Tour.

The band has also amassed a large and loyal following stemming from their non-stop touring which includes numerous rounds on the Vans Warped Tour and outings with reggae legends The Wailers, 311 and Snoop Dogg, to name a few. PEPPER has performed at several festivals including Lollapolooza, Mile High Festival, West Beach Music Festival, as well as many others. In 2008, PEPPER made the rounds through Europe twice alongside Flogging Molly in the spring and Less Than Jake in the fall. They spent their summer of that year celebrating the July release of PINK CRUSTACEANS AND GOOD VIBRATIONS, which peaked at 11 on Billboard’s “Independent Albums” chart, by hitting up US amphitheatres with longtime friends Slightly Stoopid, and headlined the very first “Here Comes the LAW Tour” – which featured other Law Records artists, The Supervillains and Passafire. The madness continued through the spring of 2009 when PEPPER ventured out for the second time co-headlining the Jagermeister Music Tour with punk rock legends, Pennywise. In the fall PEPPER took the party to the streets of Los Angeles playing the second annual Sunset Strip Music Festival with rock legend Ozzy Osbourne.

After spending the early months of 2010 writing and recording new music, PEPPER spent their summer on the annual Unity Tour with long time friends 311, and The Offspring. They played twenty-five big dates including several amphitheaters and arenas. Between Unity Tour, new music, a single, “Wake Up” accompanied by a B side, ”Mirror,” which were released this past July, and plans for a 45+ major market national headlining tour this fall in support of the forthcoming release of their Sitches EP due out Oct 12, 2010, PEPPER fans are sure to get the PEPPER fix they’ve been craving since 2009!
Of Mice and Men
After recording "Someday Came Suddenly" and touring some with Attack Attack Austin left the band. After leaving, Austin decided to start something new on his own. He asked one of his best friends Jaxin Hall from New Zealand, to join him and be apart of whatever he did next. The two, got their friends in Though She Wrote, to help them write and record the song "Seven Thousand Miles for What?" they had been working on. The next day they posted it and made this myspace. Five days later the inevitable happened. They joined up with the two people that had stood by them since day one. Rise and Artery were always considered family, and after hearing the song, they accepted us into theirs.

Solidifying the line up with Valentino Arteaga from Lower Definition on drums, Shayley Bourget from Chapters and Covette on guitar and vocals, and Phil Manansala from A Static Lullaby on guitar, Of Mice & Men have already recorded their debut album to be released in February 2010 and have hit the road nonstop!
Abandon All Ships
Abandon All Ships
Hailing straight from the club district of Toronto ON, Abandon All Ships are six proud guid's, who spend their time, pumping fists, breaking noses and making music.
Completely turning the modern music scene upside down with their unique mix of hardcore, euro and dance, they spent 2009 heavily touring North America on the release of their self titled/self released debut EP. Winds Of Plague
Winds Of Plague
From the shadows of Los Angeles, Winds of Plague has been hitting the West Coast indie music scene for the last three years. They offer up fast and heavy hardcore melodies served with an attitude that gets your attention every time. This young band brings energy, emotion, and mayhem to the stage. Their dark blend of eerie keyboards, insane drumming, and snarling vocals, which flow into slow, brutal breakdowns are their signature sound. Winds of Plague is built on principles, both musically and lyrically. Musically they stretch beyond the boundaries of the cookie-cutter metal found on CD racks today. Their fresh approach to the use of keyboards as the backbone for their songs ensures that they will not be confused with the overwhelming metal-mania emerging lately into the hardcore scene. Lyrically they go beyond complaints of broken hearts and being swallowed by the cold darkness, exploring themes of human nature which transcend the adolescent tales of love lost and mistaken identity, which are found as so many anthems for bands today.

With their first CD "A Cold Day in Hell" on Life Sentence Records, Winds of Plague is ready to bring their unique sound to the table and break all boundaries. Scheduled for a summer release, the CD will be the kick-off for a full US tour. Winds of Plague is an enthusiastic touring band, and is easily recognized in cities throughout the western US. A tour across the country will bring them further recognition and no doubt push them through the ranks to receive the acclaim that they deserve.
The Word Alive
The Word Alive
Sometimes a sweeping change within an entity is all that is needed for all the cards to fall into place. In the case of metal-hardcore outfit The Word Alive, by gaining a dynamic new vocalist, it was just the catalyst the group needed to take their next steps forward in their burgeoning career.

Feeling a bit stagnant in their progression beforehand, the addition of vocalist Tyler Smith (ex- Greeley Estates, In Fear and Faith) catapulted the band’s ambitions to the forefront. With this initiation, their goals and aspirations were much more a reality, and they set to work on what would become their forthcoming debut EP, Empire.

Recorded with producer Andrew Wade in Ocala, FL, and to be released July 21st on Fearless Records, Empire is an intimately personal album for Smith, whose impassioned lyrical subjects range from dissolving relationships to the struggles he was battling privately. Enhanced by furious guitar wizardry courtesy of shredders Tony Pizzuti and Zack Hansen, as well as rapid-fire drumming brought to life by Tony Aguilera, the EP is a non-stop sonic assault that is at once powerful and unpredictable.
Enter Shikari
Enter Shikari
Enter Shikari are a four-piece post-hardcore band from St Albans, Hertfordshire, England formed in 2003. Inspired by hardcore (in both punk-rock and dance genres) they create a sound that cannot be described other than a cross-over of rock and powerful synths. The band are well-known for their powerful live performances and energetic breaks and interludes during sets.

Despite being offered several major label record deals, their debut album Take To The Skies was released on their own label - Ambush Reality - in March 2007, reaching the dizzy heights of #4 in the UK’s official Album Charts and going on to sell over 100,000 copies in the UK (the album was released in Europe through PIAS, in North America on Ambush Reality / Tiny Evil, and in Japan on Hostess).

In March 2008, after spending 12 months on the road across the globe, Enter Shikari set up camp in their rehearsal room (a large shed in Chris Batten’s back garden which they christened “The ‘Low”) to begin writing tracks for their second album such as Antwerpen which was released as a free digital-download from the band’s website.

In July they played to their largest live audience at the UK date of Linkin Park’s ‘Project Revolution’ travelling festival alongside JayZ, Pendulum and N*E*R*D, as well as playing several shows with Linkin Park in mainland Europe.
Miss May I
Miss May I
Hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Miss May I claims a sound that is mature far beyond their years. With no members over the age of 19, they have been breaking out of the Dayton music scene with a sound that is unbelievably fast paced, heavy, and crushing, yet tastefully melodic and catchy. Currently writing for a full length debut with Rise Records, the band is gearing up for a 2009 release thats looking to propel them to the forefront of their genre.
We Came As Romans
We Came As Romans
Recorded with up-and-coming producer Joey Sturgis (The Devil Wears Prada, Emarosa, Attack Attack) at his Foundation Recording Studio, the 10-song follow-up to their breakout EP, Dreams, finds the band expanding their blend of pop-infused metal.

Although recorded with the same producer, there is still an intentional difference between the two albums. We Came As Romans didn't let the fact that they are only a six-piece hold them back from achieving a more symphonic sound on To Plant A Seed. "I played the trombone from Elementary school until I graduated high school and I always took the sound of a symphonic band or an orchestra with me," explains Moore of their decision to add orchestral elements to the album such as the violins, brass, and piano interlaced throughout the album's dynamic layers.

Not unlike the EP, the lyrics on To Plant A Seed reflect We Came As Romans' goal of spreading a positive message through their music. The band hopes, "when people hear the album, they might not change the way they think or the way they act right now, but hopefully we've planted that ‘seed', that thought of love, and it can grow."

The theme of the album is carried through to the artwork. Painted by acclaimed artist Paul Romano (Mastodon, Chiodos), the album cover depicts a "very innocent looking boy in which the ‘seed' has been planted in his mind and it grows to his heart, out of his palms and becomes branches," describes Moore.

They also covered Lil Jon's "Put Yo Hood Up" for the Fearless Records compilation Punk Goes Crunk, released in April 2008.

In the Spring of 2008 they played on the Bamboozle Roadshow with Saves the Day, Armor for Sleep, Valencia and Metro Station. Set Your Goals released a song entitled "The Fallen" through the social networking sites Trig and MySpace, and the flash and audio website Newgrounds. They played the entire 2008 Vans Warped Tour on the Smartpunk Stage.
Big D And The Kids Table
Big D And The Kids Table
Big D and the Kids Table frontman David McWane has said, “There are people who want to be in a band and then there are musicians.” However once in while a group come along who decide to make music simply because they have no other choice—and those are the acts who tend to stick around. For the past fourteen years Big D And The Kids Table have proven that regardless of fame or poverty they will forever be addicted musicians—and their latest full-length Fluent In Stroll is the apex of their decade-and-a-half long career.

The best person who ever put it was [Warped Tour founder] Kevin Lyman, McWane explains. “My girlfriend once asked him if we were a big band and he replied, ‘I’ll tell you like this, they’ve been around for 14 years and each year they’re relevant.’ I think that’s a great description of what this band is all about.”

This fact is nowhere near as evident as it is on the band’s sixth proper full-length Fluent In Stroll, an album that sees this group of Bostonian college friends—McWane, guitarist Sean Rogan, bassist Steve Foote, drummer Derek Davis, trumpet player Dan Stoppelman, saxophonist Ryan O’Connor and trombone player Paul Cuttler—coming together to craft an album that defies categorization and takes the band’s ska-influenced sound to the next level. “This album reminds us of our very first record in the sense that instead of following any rulebook we were trying to have fun with our sound,” McWane explains. “I think we just naturally wanted to write a really positive record comprised of songs that were an absolute blast to play night after night on tour—and I think that’s exactly what we achieved this time around.”

Correspondingly Fluent In Stroll is a mix of hop-scotch, double-dutch, soul, ska and reggae that comes together to form a unique style of music McWane has coined “Stroll,” which is showcased via inventive tracks such as “Doped Up Dollies On A One Way Ticket To Blood” and “Fluent In Stroll”. “I think some of our older fans might be surprised by the more stroll-sounding songs because it’s a genre outside of itself, but in all honesty I think that these songs are way more ‘punk’ than most of the so-called ‘punk’ music out there,” McWane continues, adding the bands new Do Wop singers Simone and Nicole from the band Tip The Van and Boston solo artists Haley-Jane & Sirae came together to form the hop-scotch sound of The Doped Up Dollies. “Whenever anyone hears something new it takes a minute or two to catch up, but I think people will get it and love it!”

That said Fluent In Stroll, which was produced once again by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ bassist Joe Gittleman, still retains Big D And The Kids Table’s unique sound whether that’s via the laid-back Jamaican ska sound of “Been Wishing On” or the summertime jam “We Can Live Anywhere!”. “We weren’t allowed into the traditional ska band camp or the punk-ska camp, we never fit in anywhere,” McWane explains when asked if there’s a place where the band—who have played with everyone from Melt Banana to the Pietasters—feel like they belong. “We were just this weird band that some people could understand.” However instead of seeing this as a drawback, Big D have used their idiosyncratic sound to carve their own unique niche in an oversaturated musical landscape and have built a dedicated fan base in the process.

“I personally like shows where you have to prove yourself,” McWane responds when asked which of the band’s thousands of live performances stick out in his head. “The Warped Tours and the Dropkick Murphys tours that we did were cool because when you’ve been in a band for as long as we have and you get to play shows where you have to prove yourselves you have that same first-show anxiety,” he continues. “When you play the shows where everyone in the place loves you, then it turns more into entertaining—and that’s cool, but that’s not where I personally come from,” he elaborates. “That might sound kind of weird, but I like the underdog shows more because it adds a little bit of spice and kick to it.” The good news is that armed with a record as ambitious as Fluent In Stroll the band will undoubtedly have to prove themselves all over again in sweaty clubs all over the world.

“I think we have the same aspirations with this disc that we do with every record and that involves our little pow wow of saying, ‘Don’t you think music is shit?’” McWane—who is also an accomplished author currently working on a second book of poetry, a collection of Big D lyrics, two short films and a retrospective DVD about the band called Built Up From Nothing—explains when asked about his personal expectations for Fluent In Stroll. “Music groups have always recognized and applauded for creating something new and different for listeners, yet today it seems that artists are recognized for making what’s already been or what’s most the same,” he elaborates. “We really tried to push the envelope the way artists used to do and all we’ve ever wanted was to be able to play music in front of a lot of people that love our songs,” he summarizes. “If we could play on one stage in front of the world, we would do it.”

The Expendables
An award-winning, California-grown, surf culture band that’s established itself as a vital part of the Santa Cruz, CA music scene.

Rapidly approaching status as a full-time touring act, the band is a rising star on the West Coast. To date, The Expendables have performed with in-demand musical acts such as Slightly Stoopid and reggae legend Eek-A-Mouse; they have appeared live on the Vans’ Warped Tour; and hosted their own radio show on The Santa Cruz X 103. 9 FM. The Expendables landed number one in the Metro Santa Cruz Top 10 list of favorite bands in local music. Lucero
Lucero
Lucero’s sixth studio album and major label debut, 1372 Overton Park, was released October 6th, 2009 on Universal Republic Records. Produced by Ted Hutt (The Gaslight Anthem) and featuring horn arrangements by legendary Memphis session player Jim Spake (Al Green, John Hiatt, Solomon Burke, Cat Power), the record marks a decided turn toward the Memphis soul sound that has long informed the band’s records from afar. 1372 Overton Park follows the band’s 2006 release, Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers, hailed by Pitchfork as “the best showcase for the band’s taut dynamic yet.” After a run of festival and club dates this summer, Lucero will tour throughout the fall in support of the new album with the Lucero Ramblin’ Roadshow & Memphis Revue, a traveling roadshow featuring Amy LaVere, Cedric Burnside with Lightnin’ Malcolm, Jack Oblivian, John Paul Keith & the One Four Fives and The Dirty Streets. Please see reverse for a list of dates.

The new album’s name comes from the address of the Memphis loft in which all four band members lived, practiced and even recorded portions of their 2003 release That Much Further West (the history of the space itself is even more colorful—in the `70s, 1372 Overton Park was a karate dojo where local resident Elvis Presley, among others, took lessons). Over recent years band members have gradually moved out leaving lead singer and guitarist Ben Nichols the sole resident of the space until word finally came down that the building would be sold and demolished. Almost as if marking the end of an era not only for the building but for the band as well, this record turns the page and signals a strong move toward the Memphis soul sound that has long served as an influence for the group. Nichols explains, “When [saxophonist] Jim Spake put that first horn track down, we began thinking of the record as having a certain sound. We heard pieces of Memphis history being played over our songs and it floored us and we just went with it.”

While 1372 Overton Park serves as a love letter to Memphis and its musical heritage, the band has far from abandoned the country/rock/punk influences that they’ve become known for over their previous five records and countless tour dates in front of rabid fans. “I think the fact that we don't claim a genre is very important to what Lucero is,” according to Nichols. “There are too many rules in punk rock. Too many rules in country music. We’re hard headed and…god damn if we don’t do things the way we want to do them.”

Playing between 150-200 live shows a year, Lucero has come to be known as much for their hard-touring work ethic as for their critically acclaimed records. In addition to his work with the band, lead singer Ben Nichols also released a solo record in early 2009 and co-stars in MTV’s $5 Cover, a series about the Memphis music scene.
The Ready Set
The Ready Set
The Ready Set, the brainchild of Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Jordan Witzigreuter is a one-man alternative pop band influenced by life, love and music.

At 19, Witzigreuter, a recent high school graduate, is a jack of all trades; drummer, singer and keyboardist ready to lay his claim in the music world. Using the moniker The Ready Set, young Witzigreuter writes and records all his own music.

Picking up his first drum sticks while in the fifth grade, by the time Witzigreuter was 14 he was a member of multiple bands, but it didn’t take long before he realized that what he really desired was a sound all his own. Age 16 marked a new beginning for the young musician with the formation of his very own solo project - The Ready Set.

While all recordings are made by Witzigreuter, friends do join him on tour to help create a unique and memorable live show - complete with explosive lighting effects, infectious melodies and mind-blowing beats.

Citing everyone from Daft Punk and Kenna to Kanye West as influences, Witzigreuter stresses that there is no specific comparison that can be made for his music - and that is just the way he likes it. To be unique and genuine in today’s scene is something rarely seen by contemporaries today, but it seems to be easily mastered by this young musician. Be sure to check out The Ready Set on tour now let the infectious melodies carry you away. The music - it’s all for you. So turn it up and dance your heart out.
Middle Class Rut
Middle Class Rut
The path to success is rarely short or simple to traverse. It takes time to get where you’re going, and it’s usually the journey there that transforms you into what you will become. MIDDLE CLASS RUT is proof of this. Theirs has not been an easy path, but their journey has defined who they are now.

The group’s two members, Sean Stockham and Zack Lopez, have been playing together since they were teenagers, camping out in Zack’s mom’s house in Sacramento to write and record the songs they wrote. The duo’s first band, Leisure, dissolved in early 2003 after a few false starts, sending Zack to work construction and Sean to labor as a studio runner in L.A. But they soon realized stopping wasn’t an option. Sean moved back to Sacramento and Zack began driving up every weekend from L.A. to write and rehearse music. After a year of commuting up and down the California coast, Zack relocated as well, solidifying a future for the pair’s new band, MIDDLE CLASS RUT.

The band has spent the past four years crafting new songs and allowing the style and sound of their project to evolve and establish itself. The pair records every song they write together almost immediately in their rehearsal space, capturing the instantaneous spirit of a track while still in the moment. This means that each number is imbued with a distinct sense of urgency, almost like a snapshot of the moment of inspiration. The band’s debut, NO NAME NO COLOR, is a collection of these recordings, which they elected to use rather than attempt to recreate the spark of the original tracks later in a studio.
The Aggrolites
The Aggrolites
The Aggrolites are more than a band they are a movement unto themselves. They carry a banner - one created with their own hands. This banner reads, "Dirty Reggae," and represents their signature fusion of reggae, soul, grit and determination. For seven magnificent years, this dirty reggae bunch has rolled from city to city, across the pond and up main street USA. They rally the kids, the parents, the students, the cops, the bosses and the drifters. The people come, they relish in The Aggrolites, the dirty reggae and the joy that comes with it all. The liberating rhythms and catchy grooves demand a return trip.

Out of the Los Angeles school of hard knocks, The Aggrolites have earned a Ph.D in "feel good music." On the road they educate with the thunder and punch of the reggae drums and bass, the ripping, soulful melodies of the organ and guitars, and Jesse Wagner's voice - a gift from the heavens, a perfectly intact gift from Otis, Sam, Ray and Wilson.

The Aggrolites have a specific way of making music. They don't over think it, they don't obsess over pop culture demands, they walk onto a stage or into a recording studio and let "it" happen - a culmination of inspiration - from the road, from playing alongside legends, and from the energy and motivation of their die hard fans. A new album is due for release in June 2009 and they call it IV. It is a definitive chapter in The Aggrolites journey with 21 tracks; each one a story of their struggle to thrive and their quest to spread soulful music around the globe. So, when you are in the mood to drop your troubles and kick your baggage to the curb, call on The Aggrolites.

The Aggrolites are Jesse Wagner (vocals, lead guitar), Brian Dixon (rhythm guitar), Roger Rivas (organ) and Jeff Roffredo (bass).

They have three other full-length albums to their credit -- Dirty Reggae (Axe 2003), The Aggrolites (Hellcat 2006) and Reggae Hit L.A. (Hellcat 2007), featuring the hit "Free Time." "A glorious, surprising treat. Ideal for your next soul shakedown party," raved Peter Relic from Rolling Stone about Reggae Hit L.A.

Their songs are featured on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour Compilation and numerous Give ‘Em The Boot compilations from Hellcat. In 2007, the band also collaborated with Rancid front-man Tim Armstrong on his solo A Poet's Life (Hellcat 2007) CD/DVD release.

The Aggrolites are well represented in film, television and video games. Their songs have been featured in NBC's Friday Night Lights, MTV's The Hills, Nick Jr.'s Yo Gabba Gabba, USA's Dr. Steve-O, MavTV's Rad Girls, the award-winning surf film The Pursuit, and Australian video game Cricket. The Aggros-backed, Tim Armstrong and Skye Sweetnam duet, "Into Action," is featured in Dream Works Pictures' Hotel For Dogs. Their renditions of The Specials' "Ghost Town" and Musical Youth's "Pass The Dutchie" will be heard in the upcoming teen surf comedy Endless Bummer, and "Free Time" will be in Walden Media's musical-romantic comedy Band Slam.

The Aggrolites have shared the stage with Social Distortion, Madness, Rancid, Flogging Molly, 311, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Dropkick Murphys, The Vandals, Against Me!, Gogol Bordello, The Aquabats, Hepcat, The Skatalites, Prince Buster and Derrick Morgan. They have graced the stages at such notable events as Vans Warped Tour, Coachella, SXSW, Bumbershoot, CMJ, Sundance Film Festival, L.A. Film Fest, Sunset Junction, Detour Music Fest, KROQ's Weenie Roast, 94/9 Independence Jam and Ragga Muffins Fest. In 2009, they will add Fuji Rock in Japan, Leeds, Reading, West Coast Riot, Open Air St. Gallen, Pohoda Festival, Rebellion Festival, Chiemsee Reggae Festival, Couvre Feu Festival, among numerous others around the world to this growing festival list.
Street Dogs
Street Dogs
"That the band is a full-time band. That whatever Street Dogs is doing, whether recording or playing live, we're gonna give 110%. Always. But the thing I'd like to convey most through bio or anything is that this music has an honesty and earnestness to it. The lyrics are from legitimate life experiences The lyrics are from legitimate life experiences from the band members."

The End.

You know, Mike McColgan could leave it at that. Few bands can sum themselves up so succinctly and accurately and truthfully in a paragraph. They have to resort to hyperbole and clichés and any other public relations gimmick to make themselves interesting. With Street Dogs, you get truth -- real feelings, uncontrived sentiments -- and music that is as gritty and unwashed as their name.

Street Dogs is McColgan's first project post-The Dropkick Murphys, which he co-founded, singing on the EP Boys on the Docks and LP Do or Die, two of punk rock's modern classics. He left the band in 1998 to fulfill his lifelong dream as a member of the Boston Fire Department. "I have no misgivings, no regrets…and there are no bad feelings," he says proudly. "I still talk to those guys.

Street Dogs formed in 2002 when they recorded the acclaimed Savin Hill album on Crosscheck Records. The band has been touring constantly since and building a following on rapid word of mouth. They've recently finished a successful jaunt with Flogging Molly in the US and the UK.
GO RADIO
GO RADIO
Armed with an enviable combination of musical prowess and an impressive collection of honest, melodic songs, Tallahassee’s Go Radio is one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from Florida’s hotbed of rock n’ roll talent. Second EP Do Overs And Second Chances is a perfect showcase of the band’s abilities, evoking the excitement of discovering something fresh, something exciting. Something real.

Singer/guitarist Jason Lancaster formed Go Radio in 2008, recruiting Matt Burns on bass, Alex Reed on guitar and Steven Kopacz on drums. The quartet released first EP, Welcome To Life, in August 2008, and after sensing that they had created something truly special, decided to test the new songs out on the road. “At first Go Radio was just an outlet to write and make music, but after a week or two, it all just started coming together,” notes Lancaster. “It became so much fun to start touring and playing for people, getting the responses from them. After we started touring more and decided to record the first EP, we knew this had the potential to grow and get bigger than we thought it could be.” The band spent the following two years captivating audiences with their refreshing take on pop-rock, signing to Fearless Records in January 2010.
The Wonder Years
The Wonder Years
"Taking its name from the TV show The Wonder Years, the Philadelphia punk pop band was formed by guitarists Matt Brasch and Casey Cavaliere, vocalist Dan “Soupy” Campbell, bassist Josh Martin, drummer Mike Kennedy, and keyboardist Mikey Kelly. The sextet got its start in 2005 when previous combo the Premier split up. Regrouping under the new name, the band began playing shows and released two split singles that year (with Bangarang! and Emergency and I). In late 2007 the Wonder Years self-released an album, the emphatically titled Get Stoked on It!, and quickly caught the eye of California label No Sleep, which signed the band. Their first record for the label was the EP Won’t Be Pathetic Forever, which came out in June of 2008. Following a split single with All or Nothing, Kelly left the band. After a year spent recording its second album, the group released The Upsides in January of 2010. The record made a dent in the lower regions of the Billboard charts and also gained the Wonder Years a deal with the larger indie Hopeless, which reissued the album in September with four bonus tracks. In the time between releases, drummer Kennedy quit the band and was replaced by Nick Steinborn. Kennedy soon returned to the fold and Steinborn bounced over to play keys and guitar." - Tim Sendra, AllMusicGuide
I Set My Friends On Fire
I Set My Friends On Fire
I Set My Friends On Fire, hailing from Miami, FL, are the end result of a sonic mind-meld of Nabil Moo and Matt Mehana. After a couple of years playing together as We Are The Cavalry, Nabil and Matt formed ISMFOF in late August 2007, but don't be fooled by the years under their belts. These are decidedly not old music vets, but rather uber-precocious teens who started their musical journey around the same time they started high school. The duo records thusly: Matt does the singing (fueled by "plutonium and Wheaties") and Nabil does everything else, and while this division of labor may seem unfair to some, Matt and Nabil are united by their genre-defying take on music and their desire to f*ck with people.

In the beginning...

September, seemingly on a whim, Nabil and Matt decided to record a rock/screamo version of Soulja Boy's "Crank Dat" which they called "Crank Dat Cavalry Boy." Once the track hit their myspace page, it became apparent that I Set My Friends on Fire had stepped in a big steaming pile of hit. The song got upwards of 50,000 plays A DAY, so many in fact, that Myspace deleted the band's account, thinking they were using software to artificially increase their spins. In the time it took the band to remedy the situation, dozens of imposters set up phony I Set My Friends on Fire pages, and the song found its way to Limewire. To date, the track has been played over 1 million times.

ISMFOF followed up "Crank Dat Cavalry Boy" with two original tracks: "ASL" and "Beauty Is in the Eyes of the Beerholder," and recently released the new song "HxC 2-Step," which they recorded "just for fun." Total plays on the band's myspace page? Over 4.2 million and counting...and all without the benefit of a physical CD release or a record company's promotional efforts.

Currently...

Being the superheroes that they are, Nabil and Matt so far have been able to write and record a song in a few days. No writers block here! Their efforts are made that much easier by the fact that they do all their recording in their house, by themselves.

The band writes: "the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive as we find out that our music is reaching all over the country (and even the world): one kid today even emailed us today and said that I Set My Friends On Fire was voted "favorite band" in his high school's 2007-08 yearbook! Others have said that our songs have been played at homecoming rallies and have spread all over their towns."

I Set My Friends on Fire so far have been the face of the new DIY movement in the digital age. On their own, Matt and Nabil were able to secure a cover story for their band in the Aquarian Weekly, and were booked on Bamboozled 2008. It is their creative self-promotion and undeniably catchy songs that caught the attention of Epitaph label owner Brett Gurewitz, who inked the band to a partnership of sorts in spring 2008. With the backing of one of the largest independent record companies in the world, whose ethics and aesthetics jive perfectly with I Set My Friends on Fire's, the sky is the proverbial limit for these two kids from Florida.

The band's debut album, You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter, melds the band's unique sense of humor (as evidence, simply read the song titles and lyrics) with an onslaught of thrash angular guitar riffs, pulsing dance beats, brutal breakdowns, sassy screams and lush melodic choruses.

"Our album is very eclectic and we feel that it will give the people something completely new," explains Nabil. "It has all kinds of styles woven in. The album is like a typical relationship gone wrong, spanning emotions that include joy, uncertainty, anger, hate, confusion, alienation, and everything in between."

ISMFOF ambush listeners from the get-go with the tumultuous track "Beauty Is In The Eyes Of The Beerholder," which pairs metal riffs and hardcore breakdowns with melodic sing along choruses. A virtual workout, physically and aurally, the album continues its relentless electro-grindfest with tracks like "Ravenous, Ravenous Rhino," "WTFWJD" and "ASL," which will have everyone spastically convulsing towards the dance floor. "Fans will find the tracks they've come to know us for, including "Crank Dat," and "ASL," but the album has many new tracks which continue the energy and songwriting that fans to come to know us for," says Nabil. "There are also more mellow tracks, including the "Interlude," which is a very chilled out instrumental break from the intensity of the rest of the album."
Moving Mountains
Moving Mountains
For some bands, there is a core vision and purpose that shines through from beginning to the end. For others, there is an evolution of an idea, a constant metamorphosis whose end and scope is unknown. For Moving Mountains, the evolution not only encapsulates their music, but a larger overarching concept of what defines 'Moving Mountains'. That isn't to say that the Westchester, NY quartet have an artier than thou complex, but it does touch on an evolving aesthetic undercurrent and a belief that a band can create an experiential vision that goes beyond music.

Moving Mountains have released two albums, 'Pneuma' (Deep Elm Records) and 'Foreword' (Caetera Recordings). They will release their third album in early 2011 on Triple Crown Records.
The Dangerous Summer
The Dangerous Summer
Straightforward, earnest rock music seems to be a contradiction from the path popular music has strayed as of late. The need for genuine lyrics, purposeful direction and accessible melodies has been long overdue. The Dangerous Summer have crafted a throwback to the days when music was charged with hope and contained a much-needed brand of sincerity.

This foursome from Ellicott City, MD, have poured every drop of honesty and thoughtfulness into Reach For The Sun, a polished and wise debut brimming with a poise that belies the band’s years. Taking their name from an Ernest Hemingway novel of the same name, it seems every move toward success has been calculated from the start. “We thought that name sort of fit for the time in which we were starting the band, and the commitment we’re getting into,” explained guitarist Cody Payne. That commitment was one that proved a bit shaky at the band’s beginning, when their crowded hometown shows gave way to smaller turnouts once they ventured past city limits. As Payne recalls, The Dangerous Summer’s first NYC show was held in a bar basement and included an audience of five. But for this collection of friends who’d been toiling away in practice sessions since high school, these were simply the dues of an ambitious group of musicians. And that low attendance record soon became a thing of the past once Hopeless Records came calling, finding the band’s quintessential rock pleasers just as inviting and impressive as those hometown patrons.

Sticking with producer Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Circa Survive) in their comfortable and familiar home base, The Dangerous Summer wanted to fashion Reach For The Sun with someone who “really knows how to bring out our sound,” Payne said. “Also, since we weren’t doing much as a band and were at home living somewhat normal lives, this album was just driven by pure inspiration and just wanting to play music.” With Bryan Czap adding spiraling second guitar, Tyler Minsberg smattering raptly behind the drum kit and AJ Perdomo's astute lyrics and ardent delivery, The Dangerous Summer has churned out a studied and unfettered production. The modern nostalgia and urgency of opener and lead single “Where I Want To Be” builds to the crisp ebb-and-flow of “Surfaced,” before giving way to the tempered yearning of “Northern Lights.” Perdomo emits an understated-yet-electric vocal approach that is vulnerable and defiant in the same breath. ..
Every Avenue
In a recent interview, mid-western pop rockers Every Avenue were asked a question that would normally be difficult to answer: “How would you describe your sound?” For vocalist Dave Strauchman the answer was simple: “We sound like Every Avenue.” His response could not be more true. Every Avenue blends a style that is innovative and reminiscent of a time in rock and roll when the name of the game was simply to have fun. The Marysville, Michigan quintet has been climbing the industry ladder since 2003 and, armed with a spectacular new record and a heavy tour schedule, it seems that ladder stretches pretty high into the sky.

Every Avenue formed in 2003 and self-released two EP’s in 2004 and 2006 before signing to the Southern California label, Fearless Records, in 2007, who released their acclaimed EP AH!. In February 2008, the band released its debut full length, Shh… Just Go With It and watched it rise to #27 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. The record’s first single, “Where Were You?” received play on Yahoo Radio and AOL Radio and was also featured on “MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet”, gaining more than 150,000 downloads on Mark Hoppus’ “Hi My Name Is Mark” blog on I-Tunes. The video also won MTVU’s The Freshman.

With their second album Picture Perfect, Every Avenue is set to take things to a new level. The band bounced in and out of studios throughout much of the winter and spring working hard on the LP, produced by Mitch Allan (Jonas Brothers, Faith Hill) and Mike Green (Paramore, The Higher, Set Your Goals). “We spent all of our down time in L.A. writing and recording,” remembers guitarist Jimmie Deeghan.

Family Force Five
Family Force Five
Hailing from the depths of the durrty south, the mighty Family Force 5 has spent the last six years on a bombastic, arduous crusade, conquering clubs and arenas worldwide with an unrepentant swagger that has made the band the poster child for DIY business models in the music industry. Boasting a gritty concoction of mammoth beats, mouth-watering melodies, and explosive guitars, the dance-derived, fashion-forward five-some from Atlanta has crafted an impressive resume built on sweat and elbow grease.

The group assembled in 2001 under the title The Phamily (largely influenced by the fact that there are three brothers in the band), and immediately created a contagious buzz around town, freely distributing burned copies of their homemade demos throughout Atlanta. The five emerged from their rat-infested practice space as often as possible, jumping at any chance to ignite a club with an electric performance, and word about the band’s break-dancing, wall-climbing shows started to spread. It wasn’t long until attorneys for Prince issued a cease-and-desist order about the name. (The Family was the ad hoc outfit the Purple One put together to record “Nothing Compares 2 U.”) Undaunted, the quintet carried on under the banner of Family Force 5, tearing up crowds that grew numb to nü-metal’s Cookie Monster-sounding excess. It wasn’t long before the band signed with the Maverick label, issuing their debut album, Business Up Front, Party In The Back in 2006.
At their best, FF5’s dealings with the major-label machine were tenuous. Crowds culled from assorted music subcultures (rock, punk, metal, alt-rock, hip hop) were taken by the band’s show, but the label didn’t know what to do with the unique group. Inevitably, they split ways in 2007: the band members celebrated the occasion by going out on several weeks of that year’s Vans Warped Tour, rejuvenating both the crowds and themselves.

Coming off the high it got from the Warped dates, Family Force 5 decided to create its own label (Transparent Media Group), and release its next album, Dance Or Die, independently. Infectious in its enthusiasm, D.O.D. was a near-perfect amalgam of dense grooves (“Radiator”), synthesizer-driven funk (the title track), techno-pop nostalgia (“How In The World”) and inspired emo (“The First Time”) that seemingly erased the lines of demarcation between dirty rock clubs and cosmopolitan dancefloors.

The band’s knowledge of its fanbase and close connection to the kids that bought over 350,000 digital singles and over 150,000 copies of their debut album created a strong brand that didn’t need a major label behind it to succeed. After a busy 2009—which included compiling Dance Or Die With A Vengeance (a remix album featuring 3OH!3, Relient K, and Cobra Starship), teaming up with Skelanimals for an exclusive EP release for Target, and unveiling the Family Force 5 Christmas Pageant album-the band joined forces with 3OH!3 and the Maine to co-headline an entirely sold-out AP Tour.

After enduring a incessantly grueling tour schedule (which featured a mainstage slot on the UK’s fabled Sonisphere Festival), and a near-death illness for bassist Joshua Olds (Fatty), FF5 proudly returns for its fourth stint on the Warped Tour as one of the premiere independent bands in the world, scanning more than 150,000 units on its own record label since creating Transparent Media Group. The band has continued to drop jaws, landing opportunities never before available to an artist operating from within: placing songs in major films (Almost Alice, Warrior’s Way); winning countless awards by landslide amounts (Yahoo’s Who’s Next, MTVU’s Freshman Class, AP Reader’s Choice Awards, etc.); and scoring significant press in nearly every major outlet. Family Force 5 is working feverishly to complete its third full-length album, which is currently slated for release in the spring, and has been featured as one of Alternative Press’s most anticipated albums of 2011. Anyone familiar to their mythology knows, when Family Force 5 activates its collective booty-movin’ powers, there’s not a single rock club, dance floor or house party it cannot vanquish.

Bad Rabbits
Bad Rabbits
Boston’s Bad Rabbits is a unique mix of power and Soul with the definite propensity to explode on stage. They are the surprising combination of New Jack Swing and late 80s/early 90s dance with a hard, hybrid edge—the combined swagger of prince with the intensity of Bad Brains.

The innovative genre is called New Crack Swing, a lively twist on an era they were genuinely influenced by, and perhaps only Dua Boakye has the vocals and presence to pull it off. He has that raw Soul that goes back to Sly and the Family Stone, a rare and unstoppable talent; uncanny, as well, when matched with his ability to sing as hard as any rocker today.

The best representation of their sound can be heard on the track, “Stick Up Kids,” which exhibits the vocals reminiscent of the Bobby Brown “My Prerogative” movement, a synth that conjures Morris Day and the Time, and a distinctive hard edge that any fan of high-energy, in-your-face music can enjoy.

As hip hop icon, Slick Rick’s current backup band, the group has developed a taste for extensive touring, and because of their years together in The Eclectic Collective, it’s no surprise they already have a large fan base. Any loyal fan of either group followed Bad Rabbits and appreciated their growth, from their first promos to their unveiling at a Brooklyn venue, as demonstrated by the large crowd that already knew all the words from only Myspace and no official release.

There is an early, undeniable excitement about the band, part fueled by Travis Mccoy (Gym Class Heroes) giving a shout out to Bad Rabbits before thousands at Warped Tour, part because of their Karmaloop.com clothing sponsor, whose founder, Greg Selkoe, recently told Complex Magazine that Bad Rabbits will be the next big thing out of Boston.

Yelawolf
Yelawolf
The growth and emergence of an Hip-Hop artist is a process that comes in many variables. No story is alike but the love for music is a trait that they all share because if not for that love – they would have never accepted the fate to be a rapper. In the case of Alabama native Yelawolf – his upbringing into music is as complex as any story can be and it’s that complexity that has garnered him an unapologetic following of fans that know the chant’s to Catfish Billy.
Lionize
Lionize
Gaining fans across the world, Lionize takes pride in their original sound, DIY work ethic and fiery live shows. DESTRUCTION MANUAL, (produced by J. Robbins of Jawbox) finds the band continuing its exploration of the stoner-rock, funk and reggae landscapes.
This twelve-song LP calls to mind classic reggae and rock albums with a decidedly modern spin. The band’s foundation on drums and bass are LaMel Randolgh and Henry Upton who hint at a rock-and-roll version of Sly and Robbie joined with the classic scorching Hammond organ and key sounds from Chris Brooks and the commanding guitar and vocal work of Nathan Bergman. Reggae heavyweights David Hinds and Selwyn Brown of Steel Pulse lend their vocal talents on the track Killers and Crooks as well as stalwart guitar work from Tim Sult of Clutch who also lends his talents throughout this record. Lionize continues to tour over 200 dates a year, having been tapped to open up for bands such as Clutch, Galactic, Steel Pulse and Bad Brains. Lionize also pulled double duty backing and supporting Lee “Scratch” Perry, garnering a slew of positive reviews.
Between recording in Kingston, Jamaica with Sidney Mills (Steel Pulse), collaborating on and off stage with artists such as Ozomatli and Chali 2na, and supporting heavy metal favorites Kylesa and cKy, the band begins 2011 on quite an auspicious note.
Despite its lack of mainstream press, the band’s loyal following expands daily. With DESTRUCTION MANUAL set to be released on Hardline Entertainment early Feb. 2011 and tours supporting Authority Zero and Streetlight Manifesto on the horizon, Lionize continues to turn ears as a novel addition to the sonic terrain of rock and roll with its train of heavy riffs, wailing organ, and pulsating reggae. –from official website
Terrible Things
Terrible Things
New Universal Motown band Terrible Things may be hailed as rock all-stars – with ex-Taking Back Sunday vet Fred Mascherino, Coheed and Cambria alumnus Josh Eppard, and Hot Rod Circuit guitarist Andy Jackson forming the powerful triumvirate.

...Terrible Things have made a concept album about a series of fires that haunted Fred’s former hometown, the depressed Pennsylvania steel-millburgh of Coatesville, PA, located 40-plus miles west of Philadelphia. A reign of arson terror scorched the more modest neighborhoods of Chester County from 2007-2009. “It’s not a political album,” says Fred. “I leave that to others. But growing up in Coatesville, the shock of these fires affected me in a way I was even surprised at.”

“I was just struck by the helplessness,” says Fred. “Growing up there I remember the decay, but this was such a mindless thing, symptomatic maybe, of pure hopelessness." Though the band didn’t initially set out to do a concept album, Fred says the other band members understood the depth of Fred’s passion. Andy’s contributions include “Not Alone,” and “Wrap Me Up.” Josh’s Coheed and Cambria chops – no stranger to conceptual themes in their music, as well – made the debut offering a total communal effort.

Even though they were fans of each others’ work, forming any new band, particularly when each member’s individual ‘earned-our-stripes’ indie cred’ proceeds a new union - the chemistry is not always guaranteed. “We are very lucky,” says Fred. “This all happened so organically. It seems we were all ready to take another leap into the band thing head-first.” A feat even more remarkable when you consider the members’ stellar pedigrees – Fred’s Taking Back Sunday legacy includes game-changing critical raves, multiple Top 5 album debuts and a propulsive live legacy. Coheed and Cambria also wrote their own ticket as one of the new prog-breakthrough bands, earning a Top Ten Album landing and a pummeling live reputation of their own, thanks, in no small measure to Eppard’s unique drum presence. Still, both Eppard and Mascherino willfully left their bands more than two-and-a-half years ago.Fred had known Josh from mutual tours – including his previous band incarnation prior to Taking Back Sunday, Breaking Pangaea. “I knew Josh from Coheed and Cambria. He has always been my favorite drummer to watch. He just brings so much to Terrible Things. Doing my solo stuff after Taking Back Sunday, I think I also missed the social component of being in a band. The fun of everyone contributing. I’ve been in bands pretty much since 9th grade so I also knew that if I was going to do it again, it better be with the right people. We’re pretty happy about the place we all are at right now.”

There For Tomorrow
There For Tomorrow
There for Tomorrow is a band from Orlando, Florida that combines alternative rock/post-hardcore music with adrenaline filled lyrics. Featured members are Maika Maile (rhythm guitar/lead vocals), Christian Climer (lead guitar/backing vocals), Jay Enriquez (bass/backing vocals), and Chris Kamrada (drums). They are currently signed to Hopeless/Sub City Records.

There for Tomorrow formed in 2003 at a time when all of its members were teenagers (although Christian Climer did not join the band until 2006). They were originally called The Kick Off, but changed their name after playing numerous local shows. The band’s debut album Point of Origin was released on 30 April 2004. They began playing local radio station showcase concerts, which led to stints on the southeastern leg of the Vans Warped Tour in 2006 and 2007. After the tour, they met with James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Paramore), who produced their 2007 Pages EP, which attracted the attention of the alternative rock label Hopeless Records. He returned to produce their self titled EP, released on 5 August 2008, featuring the first single “No More Room to Breathe.” Just over three months later, the band won the MTVU Woodie Award for breakout artist of the year, beating established acts such as All Time Low and We the Kings.
Cold Forty Three
Cold Forty Three
COLD FORTY THREE arrived on the scene in 2010 in a way that was seldom seen by even the most seasoned touring professionals. Joshua Cruz, Moses Cruz, and Ricky James Acosta believed that hard-work, determination and all out guerrilla marketing was the only way to achieve success. In 2008 Cold Forty Three began their touring career by booking their own shows across the country. They continued to tour in 2009 while selling their Debut album," From The Garage to Your Speakers" on their own with no distribution. In march '09 CFT did something that would establish them as a band that simply refuses to give up on any ambition they have. Without any prior bookings, they made their way to Austin TX, and the SXSW music festival. CFT was able to secure bookings that gained them good exposure, and a further desire to continue forward. In the summer of '09 Cold Forty Three decided to follow the entire Warped Tour and sell albums to the kids waiting in line, as well as play shows on their off days . CFT even sold CD's at local malls to fund their touring. CFT campaigned on the tour and on August 23, 2009 they finished in Los Angeles. CFT immediately drove back east to catch up and follow Blink 182, on their reunion tour, in Camden, New Jersey. CFT sold CD's and promoted themselves before and after every Blink 182 show until Pelham Alabama. Upon arriving in Alabama the band decided to tour back home to Los Angeles, where they arrived in December. The year 2010 brought forth the same determination and the band embarked once again on tour in January all the way through May, building a fan base that has grown with each passing month. In June 2010 CFT decided to once again follow the Warped Tour and the band set a goal to do whatever it took to play a least once on the tour, even though they weren't invited or entered any contest. Cold Forty Three achieved this goal on July 28th 2010, by playing the Ernie Ball stage in Cincinnati OH. CFT went on to play an additional three shows in Shakopee, Minnesota, Bonner Springs, Kansas and Hillsboro, Oregon. The biggest highlight came when CFT was asked to be the Bar-B-Q band for the 2011 Warped Tour. The band also has been invited to play SXSW in March 2011. With that being said Cold Forty Three is looking forward to 2011 being their biggest year ever, with a new album scheduled to be released in early 2011and a year full of non-stop touring.

Black Veil Brides
Black Veil Brides
"LA’s up-and-coming dark rock sensation, Black Veil Brides, has set a July 20th release date for their highly anticipated debut full-length album, 'We Stitch These Wounds', to be released on Standby Records. Black Veil Brides will hit the road in support of 'We Stitch These Wounds', headlining the Hot Topic Presents: The Sacred Ceremony Tour, along with Vampires Everywhere!, Modern Day Escape, and Get Scared. The six-week trek is set to kick off in San Diego on July 2nd.
Riding the success of “Knives and Pens”, and a brief headlining tour, the band promptly headed into the studio with their manager-turned-producer, Blasko, to begin recording 'We Stitch These Wounds', before hitting the road again as part of the Royal Family Tour, alongside From First to Last, Eyes Set to Kill, and Confide.
The band’s continued success earned them shelf-space in Hot Topic stores nation-wide, where their merchandise has ranked as high as number two in sales. With a thriving and dedicated following of fans (The Bridesmaids), and a highly trafficked MySpace profile (averaging over 10,000 plays a day, peaking in the 9th spot on MySpace’s Top Music Charts in the ‘Metal’ category), Black Veil Brides stand out as LA’s lone breath of fresh air."
A Skylit Drive
A Skylit Drive
A Skylit Drive’s members all met while attending Lodi High School in Lodi, CA. Their debut EP, She Watched the Sky, was released early in 2007 on Tragic Hero. Following this the group toured with Four Letter Lie, Blessthefall, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Greeley Estates, Oh Sleeper, The Black Out, Alesana, Before Their Eyes, Dance Gavin Dance, Pierce the Veil, and From First to Last. Jordan Blake left the band around December of 2007 to pursue other musical interests as well as problems and a sense of tension with other members in the band. Michael “Jag” Jagmin, formerly of Odd Project, replaced Blake for vocals. The full length Wires…and the Concept of Breathing was released in May 2008. The album hit #171 on the U.S. Billboard 200, as well as #9 on the Top Heatseekers Chart and #20 on the Top Independent Albums chart. Shortly after the release of the album they filmed a music video for the nonprofit group To Write Love on Her Arms directed by Robby Starbuck. They appeared at the The Bamboozle Left in 2008 and toured in the summer of that year with Sky Eats Airplane, Breathe Carolina, and Emarosa.
The Dance Party
The Dance Party
The Dance Party's material is characterized by a manic frenzy of electric guitar, fast-powered drums, boppy synthesizer and Coogan's coasting vocals that venture easily into falsetto territory every third note or so. Coogan dances around the stage like a caged sex beast, flailing limbs and hair following in the wake of every hip thrust, while his bassist and guitarist, donned in hi-tops and headband, respectively, trade riffs. It's obvious these guys are just here to party, and will continue to do so as they tour the US.
Sick of Sarah
Sick of Sarah
Female-fronted pop/rock band from Minneapolis, MN. Coming off some dates with Joan Jett and The Bangles, the quintet sounds a lot like early Tegan & Sara. "The women ... bow at the alter of riot grrl days gone by while simultaneously thumbing their noses at scowling rock-chick cliches. The songs are as bracing as they are familiar." --Spin
Larry and His Flask
Larry and His Flask
Larry And His Flask is made up of 6 young men who play their hearts out every chance they get! With beginnings in Redmond, Oregon LAHF started playing in late 2003 as a 3 piece punk rock band and have since evolved into a 6 man hillbilly jamboree. Passion and love of life is what powers them. It's never about drugs, money, or fancy things. It's about those perfect moments in a dank, poorly lit, cramped basement, a star lit field or a filthy street corner. Those are the moments that will last forever. With no sign of stopping or even breaking pace it is their every intention to sweat, bleed, travel to the point of exhaustion, and do anything it takes to take the music to the people who need it!
The Narrative
The Narrative
New York based indie pop/rock group The Narrative is a perfect example of how sometimes things just seem to fall into place When guitarist/vocalist Jesse Gabriel posted a three page long Craigslist ad defining exactly what he wanted out of a musical relationship, there was no way he could have predicted that the most promising response would be from someone he grew up practically around the corner from but never knew.

Jesse and keyboardist/vocalist Suzie Zeldin met for the first time in person over a slice of mediocre New York pizza and learned that not only did they go to high school together, but that they also shared many identical musical interests. The two spent much of the next year heading from their nine-to-fives to Suzie’s cramped Upper East Side apartment to craft their first tunes, many of which would become The Narrative’s first release, the Just Say Yes EP. When it came time to record the album, Jesse and Suzie were introduced to drummer Charles Seich through mutual friend and producer Bryan Russell, and with their help refined six of the songs they were most proud of.

The record was released in August 2008 digitally on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody and other distributors, as well as physically through mail order. Since then, they have seen two front page features on MySpace Canada, placements on MTV’s Real World Brooklyn and Real World Cancun, and an overwhelmingly positive unsigned showcase on Absolutepunk.net who exclaimed that “The Narrative are the kind of raw, young talent that makes lesser bands envious”.

Most recently, they received a front page feature on Purevolume and a “Popping Up” feature on Idolator who exclaimed that The Narrative has “the ability to switch between fun, happy-go-lucky tunes and soft, mournful melodies”, “is worth rocking out to” and “could easily fit in with Pete Wentz’s band of merry misfits on his Decaydance label, or score a sweet spot on an Alice In Wonderland-type soundtrack if given the chance”. The band spent the majority of 2008 playing around New York and surrounding states in an effort to hone their live show. They spent 2009 working diligently on their first full length record and extending their touring to the Midwest and further along the East coast.
Electric Touch
Electric Touch
Stick an Englishman in a band with two true blue Texans, a Californian, a Floridian and you're bound to come up with something pretty damn original.

In this case, the result is Electric Touch, the type of unbridled rock band that's been missing from the scene for sometime now— a monster of a group whose sound is big enough to fill an arena.

Really, their name says it all. "I thought it was like A Clockwork Orange….almost a paradox," says charismatic frontman Shane Lawlor. "But everybody thought it sounded like a vibrator." That wasn't exactly a negative. "That probably is this band in a nutshell," he concedes.

He's not too far off: Electric Touch's mind-blowing self-titled debut album (released summer 2008 from the Austin-based Justice Records), is a tour de force of brilliant melodies, rock hard riffs and stick-in-your-head lyrics. Produced by Frenchie Smith (Built to Spill, The Dandy Warhols, Meat Puppets) and mixed by Gavin Mackillop (Goo Goo Dolls, Sugarcult, The La's), the album announced the arrival of a bold new talent.
Peelander-Z
Peelander-Z
PEELANDER-Z, the Japanese Action Comic Punk Band based in NYC, was originally formed in 1998 by Peelander-Yellow, Peelander-Red, and Peelander-Blue, after meeting in New York City (although they'll tell you they're all from the Z area on the planet Peelander). Peelander-Green was welcomed in July 2008 after Blue left the band.

Peelander-Z has appeared at major music festivals including Bonnaroo, CMJ and SXSW, and played with artists such as Buckethead, Electric SIx, Particles, The Vibrators, and Guitar Wolf. Peelander-Z has also been featured on TV programs like VH1's Best Week Ever, Comedy Central's Upright Citizens Brigade, Spike TV's MXC: Most Extreme Challenge, and Anime Network. They also often perform at Anime conventions and festivals all over the US, as well as at Kaiju Big Battel.

At their live show, you'll see the band in colorful costumes reminiscent of Japanese Animation, though they describe their outfit as their skin. Their shows guarantee intense audience participation and chance to exercise with the band. "Do human bowling with us. Do limbo dancing with us. Do karaoke competition with us. Hit our cowbell with us," says Yellow. " Don't be shy, give us your smile! We can beat your stress! See you at our show!"
One experience would capture you. Just pay attention to their coming activities.
Shut Up and Deal
Shut Up and Deal
Hailing from Connecticut, a state known more for its casinos then its music scene. Shut Up and Deal formed around five friends, who came together to create a passionate, driven pop rock band intent on making music that can not only be heard but be felt. The band, Joe Heafy (lead vocals), Bill Laugenslaughter (bass/vocals), Pat Kish (lead guitar/vocals), Mike Kytoski (drums) and Paul LaBosky (guitar/vocals) started like most do, with five like-minded individuals who had an undeniable work ethic and lived for music.

Wasting no time the guys hit the studio and cut their first EP, Don’t Act Like You’re Not Impressed. A 7-song record that represents a compilation of ideas and emotions, which range from devotion, inspiration and optimism.

Combining a major label mindset with a DIY work ethic the band headed out on regional tours all over the Northeast and East Coast before their debut EP had even been pressed. The guys played more than 80 shows in a short span of five months. All of which were self-booked and self promoted. Since those late winter months of ’09, the guys have been on the road ever since.

Kicking off a U.S. tour on June 5th with a sold out record release show, the band left Connecticut with no signs of looking back. Touring across the country and meeting up with the Vans Warped Tour, the guys searched out and found tour organizer and founder, Kevin Lyman.

Looking to help out wherever they could, the guys wanted to prove themselves and earn the respect of anyone and everyone they could. Splitting time between volunteering in production and catering the guys quickly started turning heads.

Once a band, following the tour and hustling records out of their backpack…turned into a legitimate force that had sold more than 3,000 records and were drawing 350+ kids at the scattered Warped Tour dates that they were personally added to.

With the recent release of their debut EP, the upcoming months show no signs of slowing down for band as they plan to criss-cross the country non-stop hoping to turn as many heads as they can until the New Year.

Be on the lookout for the band on their upcoming U.S. tour this October through November and be sure to pick up a copy of their EP, Don’t Act Like You’re Not Impressed on itunes, amazon and smartpunk.
