Peter Kruder (G Stone/!K7- Vienna)
Viennese artist, producer and DJ Peter Kruder is one of the legendary figures in electronic music. Since the release of the “G-Stoned” EP (G-Stone, 1994), together with his partner Richard Dorfmeister as Kruder and Dorfmeister, his name is synonymous for outstanding quality sound production coupled with the taste and style of his DJ sets. The Kruder and Dorfmeister releases “DJ Kicks” (!K7, 1996) and “K&D Sessions” (!K7, 1998) are considered pioneering in electronic music. The sound that was formulated became known as “downtempo“, showing that electronic music need not be confined to cold sounds and metallic beats but could embody sensuality and a deep soulfulness. Both releases have been global bestsellers, with „K&D Sessions“ having sold more than one million copies worldwide and being considered one of the most influential albums of the 1990s. The magic Kruder and Dorfmeister sound has a longevity and highly influential legacy that shows no signs of fading.
In parallel to his partnership with Dorfmeister, Peter Kruder has always followed his solo projects. In 1999, Kruder released his highly acclaimed debut album “Peace Orchestra”, which combined the dark musical sensuality of Central Europe with a granulated mix of soul, hip hop, jazz and dub music. Peter Kruder solo remixes soon were in demand and he reworked Bebel Gilberto, Fauna Flash and various other artists. With Fauna Flash – Munich DJs and producers Christian Prommer and Roland Appel – Kruder kicked off the Voom Voom project in 2001, which focused on a new interpretation of the vast legacy of detroit techno and deep house. For Kruder, Munich, home to the disco explosion of the 1970s amongst others, was a city of catharsis in which he found his love for club music. Soon, the first Voom Voom singles were released to massive acclaim and led up to the much loved debut album on !K7.
Throughout the last decade, Peter Kruder produced various artists, such as Marsmobil from Munich as well as DJ Hell ´s highly acclaimed “Teufelswerk” album. Additionally, Peter has released various singles under his own name on labels such as Gigolo Records, Macro and Compost Records. As a DJ, Kruder has been spinning since the early 1990s, with more than two decades of club experience nurtured by innumerable gigs in all corners of the world. Kruder is now internationally known for impeccably mixed and originally selected DJ sets.
2010 saw the 16th anniversary of Kruder & Dorfmeister and G-Stone which resulted in the “Sixteen F**kin Years Of G-Stone Recordings“ compilation and the development of the “K&D Sessions Live“ show with Richard Dorfmeister. After playing music by other people in their situationist inspired 4 hour DJ set shows, K&D decided it was time to present the past, present and future of their music in a fully staged spectacle. The show included visuals by long time G-Stone VJ collaborator Fritz Fitzke and MC performances by Earl Zinger and MC Ras T-Weed. With performances at The Big Chill, Sonar Festival and numerous other high profile festivals, the “K&D Sessions Live“ show became an instant success and a world tour ensued.
Christian Martin (Dirtybird)
Since 1995, Christian Martin has been exploring electronic music from one end of the earth to the other; from full-moon parties in the deserts of California to the thumping, dark corners of the London club scene. Christian followed his love for spleen-rattling bass to San Francisco in 2000, where he met up with the now legendary dirtybird crew. The dirtybird BBQ was the brainchild of the four original members – Christian & his brother Justin Martin, and friends Claude VonStroke and Worthy. They had a personal mission to change the landscape of San Francisco house music by throwing an epic free party in the park, based on their new signature sound.
In 2003, with nothing to lose and everything to gain, Christian bought a massive yet necessary sound system on his credit card. This set the standard for a new era of die-hard dedicated DIY producers, all with productions based on heavy bass-lines, smiling faces and dance floor delights.
In 2006, Christian began releasing a steady stream of tracks, first collaborating with Justin under the “Martin Brothers” alias, as well as Claude VonStroke. The Martin Brothers partnership has produced such hip-hop influenced hits as ‘Duckface’, ‘Stoopit’, & ‘Dum’, as well as remixes for Ed Banger and Fool's Gold. On his own, he's released his own brand of bassy house music on labels such as dirtybird, Trapez, and Anabatic. His low end take on tech house has led to remixes for musical heavyweights such as Chromeo, Underworld, L-Vis 1990, and many more.
Christian's devotion to large scale bass has allowed him to champion the dirtybird sound out of the park and onto giant soundsystems at clubs and festivals worldwide. From Fusion (Germany) to Shambhala (Canada), to Coachella & Symbiosis (US), there's a constant demand for what he describes as “bass from the ground up.” In San Francisco, Christian is a resident at dirtybird's raucous quarterly party at Mezzanine; and also at Monarch, the newly opened marvel of a club. His new musical alias Leroy Peppers has recently roared to life, offering an even heavier take on hip-hop influenced bass music. Whether it be Leroy or Christian behind the decks, if your hands aren't clapping your ass surely will be.
