The Highwater Preachers, Nate Skiles Band

The Highwater Preachers

The Highwater Preachers (known until now as Slam Hoss) have been raising eyebrows in the burgeoning local bluegrass scene with their fresh takes on classic mountain songs, incorporating precision picking and soulful vocal harmony. Led by the remarkably accomplished Sarah Larsen on fiddle, this troupe of young pickers (featuring members of Sour Mash, the David Wax Museum, and the White Bark Pine) carries the torch of hard-driving traditional bluegrass music.

Nate Skiles Band

The Nate Skiles Band is the alter-ego of local instrumental group Slowey and the Boats. Featuring past and present members of the Amos Lee Band, Marc Silver and the Stonethrowers, and the Keystone Mountain Boys, this will be Nate's debut singing vintage country by the likes of Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, and Willie Nelson. His exceptionally talented band is driven by the smooth sounds of the pedal-steel guitar and the uptown grooves of Wurlitzer piano.

The Citywide Specials

The Citywide Specials--or that band you saw at West Philly's Fiume one blurry Thursday night--have been thrilling crowds at their weekly hootenanny for over 10 years with tight musicianship and effortless banter. Kevin James Holland's unmistakable powerhouse voice pierces through the din, heralding tails of heartbreak, trains, and whiskey. His ear-grabbing original tunes have the unique quality of blending in seamlessly with the traditional country and honky-tonk tunes he and his band select. This is a very rare east-of-the-Schuylkill performance!
