I See Stars
I SEE STARS captured the hearts of America's youth in 2010 on Warped Tour and a highly acclaimed run with A Day To Remember, but refusing to rest of their laurels the band quickly went back into the studio to start tracking the long awaited follow-up to their groundbreaking 3D release. That album strayed away from all the musical cliches blending all musical genres to set the bar for a new unique sound. Since there has been a surplus of "electronica/hardcore" music as of late, the pages will be turned once again, and new eyes will be opened, to bands and fans alike. The much anticipated new effort, The End of The World Party, is going to be one of 2011's most talked about albums within the rock genre and perfectly demonstrates the band's impressive depth, maturity and originality.
3D is currently over 30,000 units sold in North America mainly as a direct result of the band's relentless touring that also supported Attack Attack, Forever The Sickest Kids, We The Kids and Emarosa. The group's first headliner with We Came As Romans as direct support selling 500 - 1000 tickets in many markets. I SEE STARS also continues to be one of the top selling bands at retail in Hot Topic.
I SEE STARS is a band made up of lifelong friends and it's that exact dynamic that makes them so entertaining. All members; Devin Oliver (vocals), Andrew Oliver (drums), Brent Allen (guitars) and Jeff Valentine (bass) lived in the same neighborhood as kids. The friendship goes back as far as elementary school. Zach Johnson (keyboards, screaming vocals) later joined in middle school to help the band evolve adding in synth and samples. Jimmy Gregerson (guitars) then completed the six piece group taking Devin off guitar and making him the permanent lead vocalist. Over time as the album 3D was being created people all over the map were already starting to become familiar with the band. Sumerian Records quickly signed the band and released the debut album, 3D, on April 14th, 2009 to rave reviews.
I SEE STARS will be doing their first overseas tour in 2011 with We The Kings in the UK and will also be stopping in Indonesia before performing at the Soundwave Festival in Australia with such genre titans as 30 Seconds To Mars, Iron Maiden, Queens Of The Stone Age and Bring Me The Horizon. Their sophomore record, The End Of The World Party, could possibly be the heaviest pop album yet. This new offering has lots of substance and is very theatric in scope. There is literally something for everyone. The culmination of all this hard work pays off in the spring of 2011 as the band is featured on the Alternative Press tour with Black Veil Bride, D.R.U.G.S and Verse Emerge.
I SEE STARS states: "We are taking I SEE STARS to the next level. This new chapter is bringing mainstream pop to hardcore music alongside build ups that spawn from the core of techno/dub-step/electro music. Catchy and melodic vocals that illustrate a concept that we feel raises the bar. You're going to dance way more, you're going to want to throw your fists way more. When you put those two together, you have a whole different game. We didn't limit ourselves, and teaming up with 3D producer, our buddy Cameron Mizell and a balls to the wall producer like Joey Sturgis (The Devil Wears Prada, Attack Attack, Asking Alexandria), further proved that the sky is the limit to what we can do. The wait is over, and the end is near"
In 2011, I SEE STARS further cemented their status as visionaries of the genre and gain legions of new diehard followers.
The Word Alive
A full-length debut is a pivotal moment for most bands, but for Phoenix, AZ natives the Word Alive, it's a battle-tested triumph. Considering the countless miles the band has traveled since their 2009 EP release, Empire, and the obstacles the six-piece has had to overcome along the way, every track of Deceiver pulsates with the passion and fury of a conquering army, and is the very definition of "shock and awe."
After traveling to Ocala, FL to record with up-and-coming producer Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, VersaEmerge), The Word Alive resurfaced from the studio armed with debut album Deceiver, a challenging, genre-bending opus that fully showcases the considerable abilities of one of heavy music's true rising talents. Mastered by Alan Douches and featuring guest performances by Dave Stephens from We Came As Romans and Levi Benton of Miss May I, the album offers fans all that they love about The Word Alive and so much more.
The Word Alive truly made their impact in 2009 when they released their debut EP Empire, which sold more than 20,000 copies and spent time on Billboard's "Heatseekers" chart. Quickly winning over listeners with its scorching musicianship and singer Tyler "Telle" Smith's hyperkinetic vocals, the EP set the stage for an even deeper, more innovative full-length to follow.
"On Deceiver, we wanted to take everything that we did on the EP and boost it times ten," says Smith. "We got to do everything that we feel represents us on this album. In some parts it sounds like you could almost be listening to an ambient/indie band because of the electronic influences, in other parts it's dark and almost creepy. We spent a lot of time before writing the album thinking of how we could sample other instruments to really add depth—either keyboard parts that Dusty [Riach, keyboardist] would do, or cello, violins and different percussion instruments.
"One thing's for sure," Smith adds. "On this album, when we're heavy, we're way heavier."
A major difference to note among Deceiver's blistering instrumentation is the hefty contributions of new drummer Justin Salinas, formerly of My Children My Bride and Scars of Tomorrow. With Salinas now in the fold, TWA is ready to take on the world.
"Deceiver is not a concept album, but it's got a lot of heavy theme stuff that goes along with the title," explains Smith. "Over the past year, we've gone through some big changes, and we poured those experiences into this album."
The group kept the road ever-present in mind when writing much of Deceiver, knowing that massive touring would be in the immediate future. Their intense touring schedule in support of the album has included a summer run on Warped Tour 2010, as well as tours with Bleeding Through, A Day To Remember and Underoath. 2011 is poised to be their biggest yet, with U.S. and European tours with We Came As Romans and a full summer on Vans Warped Tour, followed by a slot on Soundwave Revolution in Australia and a U.S. run for the fall.
"We really wanted it to be an experience when you come to our show," says Smith. "What I think a lot of musicians forget is that people are paying to be entertained. With this album we definitely thought of the live show, and how we could make every fan, or even a person who's never heard of us, think, 'Man, it sounded like there were 15 people up there, and it was just awesome.'"
The Word Alive's debut album Deceiver is available now. The Deceiver: Deluxe Edition featuring two new tracks, remixes and videos is also now available digitally.
Crown The Empire
Our debut full length album "The Fallout" comes out 11/20 on Rise Records!
We started the band with the motive to not be another mundane closed minded group of musicians. We were all sick of the regurgitated music that was being put out, and unhappy with how Intolerant the music scene had become in our hometown. This gave us the passion to create music that not only went against everything in our hometown scene, but also to make music that truly made us feel whole. The meaning behind the name "Get Scared" is to not hold back in life. Do whatever you are passionate about, get out of your comfort zone and don't be afraid of failure, the only way to fail is to never try at all. Get Scared
Palisades, formerly known as Marilyn Is Dead, has further reinforced and redefined their sound. Armed with a combination of post-hardcore and pop-punk influences, Palisades adds an entire new element of emotion to their rich, big sound. Strong, catchy choruses, along with aggressive melodic screaming are combined with more contemporary breakdowns, adding a very unique and distinct character to their music. Having recently recorded at Chango Gridlock Studios in Orlando Florida, Palisades plans to release their EP, and continue frequent touring.
