Delorean recently announced the upcoming release of their sophomore album, Apar, out September 10th on True Panther Sounds (and Mushroom Pillow in Spain/Portugal). Shortly following the album’s release, the band have lined up headlining tour dates in North America for October and November, spanning from San Francisco’s Independent, through NYC’s Webster Hall, and including Fun Fun Fest. See all tour dates below.

Delorean made their first single “Spirit” available for streaming and for purchase via iTunes. Pre-order for Apar is available now.

Apar is Delorean’s follow up to 2010’s Subiza which brought the band world-wide critical acclaim with Pitchfork stating, “Synth-pop, Balearic disco, indie house: Call it what you want. Delorean just make beautiful, modern pop music,” and The New York Times said, “Delorean traffics in airy atmospherics and enveloping rhythm: ideally, music for a dance floor in the hours preceding dawn.” Delorean strove to embrace a more sophisticated relationship to sound recording and songwriting in order to push the stories and dynamics of this album to a deeper more complex place. Leaving behind the ornate and layered production of Subiza, the chopped up female vocal samples have been replaced by actual singers and bare minimum of instrumentation is all that remains to support them. A failed relationship, a national financial crisis and an embrace of a more sophisticated relationship to sound recording and songwriting push the stories and dynamics of this album to an even deeper more complex place. Through lead singer, lyricist and bassist Ekhi Lopeteg’s articulate lens, the record’s emotional undercurrent, and the band’s mastery of luxurious, coast-of-Spain beats, Apar is the most powerful, dynamic, and moving album of Delorean’s career.

Superhumanoids

In the summer of 2010, Superhumanoids was birthed under the hazy air and bright blue skies of Los Angeles. A fascination for electronic sounds, instruments, pedals, and more, aesthetically united Max, Sarah, and Cameron. Like a petri dish growing each day, the band spent their time together intertwining and experimenting with their R&B upbringings and love for pop music. Bartered studio time, extensive touring, and the release of two EPs set the stage for what was to come and in the fall of 2011 these forces coalesced to create Exhibitionists.

Exhibitionists is the soundtrack to the last moments of dusk in LA. With swooning guitars, glimmering air, soaring melodies, the setting sun, and melting keyboards, something about the whole thing makes your breath stop short. Developed in the home studios of the Superhumanoids, the record takes a completely hands on approach from the trio. With each synth and guitar sound being completely made from scratch, the record brings a homegrown feel that encapsulates the thumps of the beating heart and lulls of swaying palm fronds from LA. And just as the record takes those elements and brings them to life, the live performance of Exhibitionists only continues to further that distinction. Despite being wrapped in an electronic blanket, the trio unravels each songs core to take the listener on a journey that highlights the living R&B undertones and driving groove that brings to light the soul of the record. What is found in the sticky air of the city of angels is found here in Exhibitionists, to ease between the spaces of your body, make you dance, and bring you home.
