Until last September, things were relatively quiet in Meat Puppets 2016 world. Then Riotfest popped up on their schedule. There are not too many “firsts” left for the Puppets to experience, but out of the blue, Curt was invited to meet with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders (!!) at Suder Montessori Magnet School in Chicago.
Suder teacher Rachel Jacobson was the match maker:
“I have put forth the idea that Curt Kirkwood is the coolest person that walks
the earth and my kids have bought in…showing up will confirm it all.”
When the kids dropped a video along with the invite, https://splice.gopro.com/v?id=YpQbL5q1L, that did it, and the band got to cut loose with the kids singing along.
Tears were had.
Following that outing, the band has started to revisit the folk and singer-song writer nuggets Curt put out in 2005 on his solo masterpiece, Snow, as well as similarly veined tracks from Rat Farm (“Sometimes Blue”).
In March 2017, the Puppets are headed back to the west coast for a two week tour.
The World Takes (DJ Bonebrake from X)
STEPHEN MAGLIO - Guitar, Vocals
stephen maglio is a musical nut ball who defies not description, but worthiness of it. it really doesn't matter what the fuck he has done or is doing - just listen to the music from the collective he leads called "the world takes". he also leads several other bands including "the pigeon sisters", "every ten seconds in america", "the footprint of the american chicken" and "it's only fucking music terry lyne".
JIM STAGER - Bass, Vocals
jjim stager grew up in the philadelphia area where he played bass since grade school. he was voted most nerdy musician and was voted most likely to teach marching band oboe in his senior year of high school. boy were they wrong! his coolness started playing electric bass guitar with the blistering power punk band the balls. he later had a successful run in 'huffamoose" a sassy-smart pop rock powerhouse that spawned major label releases as well as successful us tours and an award winning documentary. he is making a true mark with "the world takes" - a spectacular diverse ass kicking collective of musicians led by the musical nutcase stephen maglio.
DJ BONEBRAKE - Drums
Donald James Bonebrake (yes, that is his real name) grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. He began drumming at the age of 12 and studied classical and traditional music while playing in various rock n roll bands. After several years of touring and recording with the band X took a brief hiatus and DJ began earnestly building his reputation as a talented and dependable live performance and session musician, playing drums, percussion, and mallet instruments with a variety of musicians and music groupsToday, in addition to playing drums, DJ is gaining a reputation as a talented vibraphonist, playing in both jazz and rock and roll settings.
