Afro Roots World Music Festival

The Afro Roots World Music Festival celebrates the evolution of African Culture in our community. It has featured artists from various African countries such as Senegal, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, the Republic of Congo, the Caribbean and the Americas. Now in its 15th year, it is our organization’s longest running event. This year’s celebration will take place August 3 at 7th Circuit Studios: 228 NE 59 St., Miami, Fl. 33137. Performances will occur from 9 pm-3 am by Itawe, solo project of lead singer of Locos Por Juana, Master Percussionist from Ghana CK Ladzekpo and Venus Rising, Afro-Colombian Folklorists Grupo Barrio Abajo; Early 20th century Caribbean music group, Antilles Music Ensemble; multi-cultural Afro Polyphonic World Orchestra;Brazilian Samba School Unidos de Miami, Cuban Son Duo: Cortadito w/ special guests; and African group Fatala featuring modern music from Guinea; ; DJ Moses, and Lance-o & the Kultcha Shok Crew, Ticket prices range from $10.00 for students & seniors, $15.00 pre-sale or $20 at the door for general admission. Expected attendance figures range from 700-1,200 patrons.
The festival also features free and ticketed satellite events at the Little Haiti Cultural Center located at 212 NE 59th Terrace Miami, FL 33137. "Let The Children Have Music and Dance" will be held on Saturday August 3rd, 2013 from 2:00pm- 3:30pm. The show will feature Venus Rising, a traditional West African Performance troupe. Immediately following that, between 3:30-4:30pm will be a free workshop featuring CK Ladzekpo, a Ghanaian master percussionist, artistic director and choreographer of the critically acclaimed African Music and Dance Ensemble of the University of California at Berkeley. Finally, The Festival of The Drum Opening Celebration, presented by Delou African Drum & Dance Ensemble (DADE)from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Little Haiti Cultural Center. Tickets are $20, patrons will get a $5.00 discount to our event with ticket stub.
