taragirl + The Damon Hamilton Project
500 N. Market St.
Wilmington, DE, 19801
This event is all ages
If a single phrase could describe vocalist, songwriter and performer taragirl, it would be “the truth!” Her powerhouse voice, contagious energy and charismatic songs have earned the Philadelphia-based artist a reputation as an indie star. With two releases, multiple sold out shows, openings for Grammy-winning acts, outlets like The Daily News calling her “Philly’s next signature voice,” and popular blogs like PhillyChitChat.com as devoted fans, taragirl is certainly poised to break out onto the larger music scene. Drawing inspiration from Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey, to EnVogue and Lauryn Hill, taragirl’s blend of soul, pop, funk and r&b has wide appeal, with her vocal acrobatics and fiery stage presence rousing tens of thousands of fans since releasing her self-written debut The 26th Power in 2006, followed by 2010’s The City: Soul Suite. Those projects garnered the songstress numerous accolades including City Paper’s “10 Artists To Watch,” as well as performances alongside the likes of Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Amy Winehouse, Ledisi and Chrisette Michele. Now ready to unveil her third project, taragirl is prepared to bring her story and accomplishments full circle, solidifying her brand with a new forward-thinking look and sound. If her shimmying, retro-infused single “Can’t Let Go” is any indication, taragirl’s trademark brand of “girl funk music” will only continue her rise as a fierce female voice in entertainment.
The Damon Hamilton Project
The Damon Hamilton Project (DHP) is much more than a talented man and a beautiful voice. Just as a whole finds power in the sum of its parts, and a chain is as strong as its links, the strength of the DHP lies in the individual talents of each member. Comprised of five men and 2 women, all with diverse gifts and influences, the DHP constantly transcends genre-based music.
The men & woman behind their instruments possess a unique perspective that is refreshing to the ear and nourishing to the soul. There is an alchemy that makes itself apparent when they play together. Each member is a force in their own right; however, together, they shine as The Damon Hamilton Project.
Nadjah Nicole is a breath of fresh air on the music scene. She has a distinct vocal style that is rooted in Gospel music. Nadjah and her band cite R&B and pop artists such as Corrine Bailey Rae, Erykah Badu, Laura Izibor and many others. Their focus is on making an impact on the music scene by performing a wide range of everyone’s favorites as well as original music.
Nadjah Nicole performs a standard serving of soul music with a pop and jazz twist. As a band, they continually explore their own given talents, and continue to make good music together.
