SONOMA SOUND is a Philly based band that plays a sonic tapestry of original roots music with threads of Americana, Blues, Folk, Jazz, and World rhythms that blur the lines of musical category. SONOMA SOUND is: Will Paynter on vocals, acoustic bass, percussion and melodica, Paul Downie on vocals/percussion, Jay Popky on vocals/guitar, Dean Sophocles on piano/organ, Jake L'Armand on violin and Robert Veith on 5 string electric bass. Their eclectic performance sung in English and Spanish, consists of conscious lyrics sung over steady rhythms and wandering melodies. They released their newest CD “Skin & bone” to a sold out show at the Tin Angel on May 11th, 2013.
In the past Sonoma Sound has performed locally at North by Northwest, The Tin Angel, The World Café Live in Philadelphia and in Wilmington, Chris’ Jazz Café, The Grape Street, The Hedgerow Theater, The Community Arts Center in Wallingford, Media Roots Americana Music Festival, The Mausoleum Museum of Contemporary Art, The Cape May Singer Songwriter Festival, The Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, The Ram’s Head Tavern in Annapolis, Grounds for Sculpture near Princeton NJ, Arlene's Grocery in NYC, The Moorestown Arts Center, Cultural Fest, a World Music Festival in Harrisburg, The Baltimore Book Festival and ARTSCAPE, the largest free outdoor art and music festival in the United States. In 2010, Will crossed the Atlantic to England to perform in the "Brighton Live" music festival. While in England, he performed live on RADIO REVERB as well as a 8 shows, three of them with multi-talented percussionist Theseus Gerard, one of the founders of STOMP. SONOMA SOUND was recently asked to open for Latin Grammy and Oscar winner Jorge Drexler as well as Los Lobos at the Sellersville Theater.
