Technological advancement is the ultimate wrecking ball. First, video killed the radio star. Then, the internet killed the traditional music industry. And now technology is about to put its shit-kicker through the idea that Nashville is a country town. Hailing from Music City, electronic-punk rockers Five Knives are the perfect intersection of where good old rock n’ roll and electronic music meet. Their stuff is so fresh, that when they burst onto the scene in Nashville they were able to create the illusion that they were the hottest thing in town that you just hadn’t heard of yet – in order to see them you needed a password.
Their frenetic live show is far from pressing play on a computer. Front woman Anna Worstell bounds around the stage like a woman possessed wrapping herself in her mic chord and jumping from the kick drum and speakers. Electronic elements are recreated live by Zach Hall and Nathan Barlowe, who also handles guitar duties. All the while the beat is held down through the wizard-like drumming of Shane Wise. This local frenzy led to festival appearances and supporting slots with Smashing Pumpkins and Die Antwoord. After signing with Red Bull Records, they are finally set to release the highly anticipated 5 song EP, “The Rising.”
Currently in the studio working on tracks for their forthcoming full-length debut, the band will hit the road this summer on Warped Tour. Audiences nationwide will get the opportunity to experience what is arguably Nashville’s best kept secret. Technology strikes again.
So when on “Future” Anna sings, “We are the hopeless, we are the broken, we are the future,” it sounds like the truth.
Jacob Jones was born in Indiana, raised in Georgia, and has lived in Atlanta, New York City, and now Nashville, Tennessee. After studying philosophy and English Literature, Jacob soon dropped out of school and began traveling. It was these travels that led him to begin writing songs in earnest and co – founding Electric Western Records in 2009 in Nashville. His resulting debut Love and War was critically received in the spring of 2009 and his follow up, Bound for Glory, is an even broader American interpretation. Jones plans on touring throughout 2010 both nationally and internationally in support of his latest record, be on the look out for him wherever good Americana music is appreciated. He can be caught both as a solo act or with some of the revolving cast of fiddle, mandolin, banjo, up right bass, piano, and general good timery that follows his tours.
Jeremy Todd (aka DJ Coach) hails from the Nashville electronic scene where he has 4 weekly gigs at clubs around town. He spins at local hot spots PLAY, 12th and Porter, and MAI every week and has accumulated a fan base that pulls from every different scene in Nashville.
His musical influences range from Daft Punk, Breakbot, Treasure Fingers, and MSTRKRFT along with many bloghouse acts that gain most of their notoriety through word of mouth. Jeremy tends to shy away from most Top 40 music and focuses on more underground music that most people do not get to here on a daily basis. Mashups and Remixes are his songs of choice along with a love of French Pop.
Jeremy was even in a musical group 3,2,1 Famous that you can buy on itunes and whose songs have made it onto some TV shows. His love for music is equalled by his love to just throw a good party.
