Sango is a hip-hop producer who was born in Seattle, Washington, and currently resides in Grand Rapids. Sango released his first instrumental mixtape titled Unfinished & Satisfied in December 2010. With his signing to Soulection and his release of Trust Me and Da Rochina, the world began to take notice of this producer's unique take on bass music. Following major worldwide support for his refixes, EP’s and beat tapes from the likes of Brownswood’s Gilles Peterson, KCRW’s Aaron Byrd, and Noisey (VICE) to name a few, Sango is poised to elevate the definition of what “future” music is.
With his latest release North, Sango brings forth a new sound, one that pulls from soul, rnb, future bass, hip hop and broken beat fusing them together with seamless vocals chops and grooves. North features collaborations from a diverse group of artists like Australia’s Ta-ku, cinematic downtempo producer Atu, nu-soul singer JMSN, story-telling rapper WALDO, newcomer vocalist Brea and Dpat who produced ‘Remember You’ for Wiz Khalifa and The Weeknd.
Hailing from North Carolina, Nathan Hayes fell in love with Drum & Bass in the late 90s. Stumbling across a copy of LTJ Bukems Logical Progression LP, Nathan would vibe for hours on end listening to what was to him a fresh and exciting sound. Starting out DJing at the tender age of 16, he began to push this sound throughout his home state and at 18 he had firmly established himself as a DJ on the regional circuit. Taking the next logical step, Nathan began to dabble with production. Soon his work was catching the ears of international artists like Total Science and Digital which motivated Nathan to keep his head in the lab; concocting more blazing D&B beats.
A meeting of minds between Nathan and another local DJ led to the formation of Basic Operations. With Nathan behind the production wheel, their output quickly gained support from the Drum & Bass elite. Basic Ops secured early releases such as Mars vs. Earth on Phuturo and their anthemic Era Soul on Advanced and in 2004 Nathan was approached by Dieselboy and asked to remix Karl K, J Kennedy & Kaos Disco fueled dancefloor smasher Studio 54 for Human Recordings.
Over the coming year Basic Operations joints began popping up on some of the scenes most respected labels: Renegade, TOV, CIA, Advanced, Liquid V, Creative Source, Nerve, Freak and Good Looking. Now an unstoppable force, Basic Operations had established themselves as some of the top Drum & Bass artists in America, by 2005 they were headlining massive events all over the country.
Since then Atlantic Connection has continued to morph and grow, his sound constantly evolving into various tempos and genres. His most recent project "Love Architect Remixed" features collaborations with some of the biggest names in EDM and bass music such as Kastle. He is currently working with LA bass haven SMOG Records.
Nikko Gray is a singer-songwriter who was raised in the UK and the Netherlands but lives in the Los Angeles area now. She’s still relatively little-known U.S., but 2011 might be the year she raises her profile. She’s already off to a good start with the release of “Beautiful You Are,” an atmospheric, sensual ballad that’s just been posted on her Bandcamp site.
ESTA is an electronic music producer based in Souther California, United States. He has released material on the Soulection label. His latest release Gradient makes use of samples from artists as diverse as Janet Jackson, M.I.A. and Mara Hruby over seductive and bass heavy beats.
In the quickly rising new-school class of 'alt-R&B', Jarell Perry is paving his own lane. His critically-acclaimed debut LP "Simple Things," which mixes flavors of Electronic, Indie-Rock, and Pop, has already drawn comparisons to cross-over heavyweights like Miguel and Frank Ocean. But as URB Magazine puts it, "what sets him apart from this new breed of talents is a much fuller and developed vocal quality…sublime perfection..."
Lyrically, Perry's "Simple Things" covers everything from love-gone-wrong to awkward moments, and the hum-drum of 9-to-5 day jobs. "There's a song for every situation, you can take it as the soundtrack to your life at any moment," says the LA-based singer-songwriter.
Prior to releasing the LP, the MTV Buzzworthy artist's writing credits included Fat Joe's comeback single featuring Chris Brown, "Another Round." After growing a strong worldwide fanbase from YouTube and his alma mater UCLA, Jarell went on to meet and work with the likes of R&B superstar Usher, rapper Childish Gambino, and international producers Diplo and Rusko. With "Simple Things," he's looking to create a legacy even larger than his esteemed collaborators. And based on the feedback (R&B veteran critic Mark Edward Nero raves, "the future of R&B has arrived"), Jarell Perry is more than well on his way.
