Athens: New Ren presents
Nick Hook, Cakes Da Killa, H.O.M.E Team, Flash Frequency
Brooklyn, NY, 11211-4119
This event is all ages
Heavily responsible for the grimy techno-soul of NYC's Cubic Zirconia and the greasy bass of Drop The Lime's live show, DJ and producer Nick Hook has been "twisting knobs" (self-description) for a minute now. He is no stranger to the dark underbelly of the late-night clubs, having played in some of the finest temples of boom the world over. His unique strain of acid-fried basslines and vintage drum machines have kept him in demand amongst a smorgasbord of musicians, including Men Women & Children and Head Automatica and he is currently working with El-P of Company Flow,L-Vis 1990 of Night Slugs and is the engineer behind everyone's favorite Azaelia Banks EP. He also has red hair, which is a plus in our books. Look for is upcoming solo EP with Scion dropping in October!
Cakes Da Killa
Recording artist and raunchy rapper Cakes Da Killa is a 23-year-old with three critically-acclaimed mixtapes to his name. His latest release Hunger Pangs solidified him as “one of hip hop’s most exciting voices,” according to The Needle Drop and a ferocious rapper who “sounds like he will absolutely slap your face off” in the words of Stereogum. No small feat, as this intensity has also garnered him praise from the likes of Vice, MTV and The Fader. Cakes Da Killa’s unique sound is a mix of various musical influences, cinema and underground experiences. Praised for both his lyrical content and flow, which has earned him comparisons to Lil Kim and Foxy Brown, Cakes now has over 7,000 Soundcloud followers and over 8000 Facebook fans, as well as an international following that's brought him to places around Europe, Canada and Australia, all the while shattering the preconceived notions of what it takes to be a respected lyricist. (Rightly) bragging that he can, “spit that shit to make a homophobe a hypocrite,” he continues to prove the statement true with each new release he drops.
Featuring Perrion, T-Shyne, 7double, Microphone Preview, and S'natra.
K.Chambers is the guy behind Flash Frequency, a Dallas graphic designer and musician who has been creating sounds since 05. In the past, he's worked with artists like Erick Arc Elliot & UNO Hype. However, Flash Frequency's talent goes far beyond the Hip Hop tune. As Flash Frequency, this current DC artist blends swirling seductive melodies and sometimes unorthodox sequencing into a phenomenal soundscape. Sometimes his sound crisscrosses between stuttering beats and vocal samples, creating a supersonic soundscape that extends most musical horizons.
