Upstart Fest 2013
The Northeast's Biggest and Best Punk Rock Party!
With over Nine years of touring internationally and 1200+ shows, the Detroit based Koffin Kats new home is on the road. This trio kicked it off in June of 2003 with the mission to not stop for anything. Vic Victor (Lead Vocal, Upright Bass) would join forces with long time friend Tommy Koffin (Guitar) and start laying the ground work for the sonic assault known as The Koffin Kats.
The Turbo AC's emerged from the streets of New York City in the early 1990s. Vocalist/guitarist Kevin Cole, drummer Kevin Prunty, and bassist Michael Dolan released a number of EPs and compilation tracks on various labels before issuing their debut full-length through Blackout in 1996. Damnation Overdrive showcased the AC's' adrenaline soaked punk & roll, a sound that kicked Dick Dale into the whiskey overdrive of Mötörhead, and slicked its hair back with engine grease. Constant touring honed the sound and spread the word; after a few more compilation appearances and a split 7" with the Hellboys, the band dropped Winner Take All, their sophomore LP, through Cacophone in 1998. For their next trick, the Turbo AC's signed with Nitro Records, but not before issuing another flurry of singles and comp. appearances. 2001's Fuel for Life LP became their Nitro debut, and was supported with more touring, both in dingy clubs and on enormous Warped Tour stages. The AC's returned in 2003 with Automatic. Produced by Blag Dahlia, mixed by Billy Milano, and issued concurrently by Bitzcore in Europe and Gearhead in the state, it was widely hailed as the band's most intense work yet. Like they had done from the very beginning, the Turbo AC's supported the effort with an exhausting run of live dates. ~ Mike DaRonco & Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

Forming in New Jersey in the late '90s, the Hudson Falcons chase a creative trail assembled halfway on the roots of punk rock fixed by bands like the Clash and the intense marks of pure rock & roll acts like Bruce Springsteen. Constituted by Mark Linskey (vocals, guitar), Chris Lynn (guitar), Craighton Fischer (bass), and Ben Glotzbach (drums), the Falcons started conquering a loyal legion of fans from the very start of their operations due to their crushing live performances. Releasing several split discs with other punk crews during the subsequent years, the New Jersey band decided only to record their debut full-length record in late 1999. Desperation and Revolution, the Falcons' debut album, hit the record stores in 2000 trough the GMM Records label, eventually receiving considerable recognition by the media. One year later, For Those Whose Hearts and Souls Are True, the squad's sophomore effort, corroborated the team's better dominion on the underground punk rock scene.
New Red Scare
Fancy, fast, raw, rock 'n roll from the harbingers of the Whiskey Revolution. Formed in 2011 in the loving arms of Albany, NY and spreading... We are waiting to come to your town...
The Svetlanas were a punk band active in 1977.
Their real identity was revealed only in 2008 on a tabloid.
This is their story.
In the seventies, the Svetlanas worked for KGB: the main police organization in the Soviet Union.
They were spies, informers, fighting agents to whom was assigned the task of stealing the military secrets of the most powerful nations in the world.
In 1977,during their last cover show in the United States, a flawed amplifier triggered a 3000V discharge: the four members of the band, hit by the violent electric shock, went into a coma.
The hospitalization was immediate, such as the decision of KGB to steal their bodies and hibernate them, in order to preserve the secrecy of the mission.
The Svetlanas were transported inside cryogenic rooms, on a merchant ship bound for URSS, but, during the navigation, the ship mysteriously sank in the ocean.
Nobody knows what really happened to Olga, Dimitri, Jurij and Vasilij for the following thirty years………until an english tabloid revealed, by a scoop, the real story of the band.
After the fall of the Soviet Union and the disappearance of KGB,the Svetlanas decided to clean break with the past and created their new identities, trying to integrate themselves in the society with their new lifestyles. They moved to Milan, had some plastic surgery operations and attended some intensive italian language courses.
At the moment the Svetlanas, with their new names of Angela, Micky, Diste and Mick, have recreated the band, dedicating themselves full time to what before was just a cover.
“They could have changed their aspect and accent but I swear on God that their approach to music is still gross and strong like a Vodka shot”
The Jukebox Romantics
The Jukebox Romantics are 5 certifiable and usually belligerent punk rockers from southern NY. Since releasing their debut album on Altercation Records in 2009, the Jukebox Romantics have taken their talked-about live show from coast to coast including dates during Austins SXSW festival and the Warped Tour in the summer of 2010. With a genre hopping approach to their sound, the Jukebox Romantics channel their influences of bands like The Clash, Bouncing Souls, and One Man Army through personal song writing and their ability and eagerness to be absorbed by their audiences. The Jukebox Romantics will be entering the studio at the close of this year to record their second full length to be released in the late spring of 2011. Look for them this year at The Fest 9 and Philadelphias first FM Festival, or contact them directly to book a show in your neck of the woods.
Lost In Society
Combining raspy punk-rock vocals, fresh, fun lyricism, and a stage presence that will give any veteran concert-goer the chills, Lost In Society are undoubtedly the real deal. Based in the indie music hub of Asbury Park, NJ this alt/punk trio likes it loud and simple. Lost In Society got their start in 2004 with their first big show at the PNC Bank Center in Holmdel, NJ. Shortly after they would record their first EP Gone with Jon Leidersdorff of Lakehouse Music. In 2009 they hit the studio again with Leisersdorff, releasing their first full length album, Eastern Empire. This album took the sizzling hot trio to new levels, gaining them massive attention in the local music scene. It didn't take long for their catchy singles to gain a serious, die-hard fan base around the Jersey Shore. With a completely D.I.Y. dedication to promoting and touring, LIS were quickly known for collecting fans the way old punks did: by word of mouth.
Big success came in 2011, as the trio took home the gold in Metromix's state-wide BreakThru band competition. Their dedication, raw energy and fierce promotion took them to the top of New Jersey's music scene. In April 2011 LIS recorded an EP which was produced by Pete Steinkopf of the Bouncing Souls. Just this past year they've been lucky enough to share the stage with The Souls, and other legendary acts such as The Misfits, Strike Anywhere, Tim Barry and HR of Bad Brains. They also signed on with the fast growing indie punk label Altercation Records and will be releasing a split album with NY indie rockers American Pinup in February 2012.
And in recent news, LIS finally took home the award for Top Punk Band in the Asbury Music Awards. After being nominated in various categories the past 4 years, their fierce go-big-or-go-home ethos finally paid off. They're also currently nominated for Top Regional Punk Band in the TriStateIndie.com Music Awards.
2012 will be a huge year in touring as they're joining The Warped Tour for 14 dates this July.
Doomed To Obscurity
Doomed To Obscurity is Chris Hunter-guitar, Jason Clouser-guitar, George Kuech-bass, Dave Glass-drums, and Billy Garvey-vocals. They are a collaboration from many bands… Mama Volume, Kitschcao, I.N.R.I., and The Strychnine Babies to name a few. The members of D.T.O. have a sordid history with the real old school punk and U.S. hardcore scene. What comes natural to D.T.O. is revitalizing that passion and angst, while being original and fearless. Influenced by The Stooges, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Dead Boys, minor Threat, and the Philly hardcore scene of the past, D.T.O. will make you stand up and think for yourself again.
