Availability for our BIG SHOT seating is limited and we encourage booking in advance. (GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY AT THE DOOR ON THE NIGHT OF PERFORMANCE ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS.) Nightly performances begin at 8:15, 9:15 and 10:15.
The Preservation Hall All-Stars, Featuring Charlie Gabriel
Every night, Preservation Hall presents intimate, acoustic concerts featuring ensembles made up from a current collective of 100+ local master Traditional New Orleans Jazz practitioners. These master musicians have learned the traditional style from the greats that played before them at Preservation Hall.
The Preservation Hall All Stars feature some of those master veteran musicians. With a line-up changing week to week, the Preservation Hall All Stars provide an ever-evolving take on the New Orleans Jazz tradition.
Featured members of this group include, but are not limited to: Gregg Stafford (trumpet), Maynard Chatters (trombone), Will Smith (trumpet), Shannon Powell (drums), Steve Pistorius (piano), and Lucien Barbarin (trombone).
Tonights featured musician is Mr. Charlie Gabriel
Fresh of is his 2013 Best of the Beat Award win for New Orleans Best Clarinetist, is known to friends and relatives as Charlie 'G', Charlie Gabriel was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is a fourth generation New Orleans jazz musician. Charlie has played authentic New Orleans music with top traditional musicians such as Kid Howard, Kid Sheik, Jim Robinson, George Lewis and others on Bourbon Street, at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and around the world.
Charlie came to Detroit at the age of fourteen. He was so experienced that he was asked to join the Lionel Hampton band at age sixteen. In the early '70s, Charlie was a member of Aretha Franklin's Orchestra. He continued to play throughout the states and abroad, also working with Nancy Wilson, Joe Simon and JC Heard. Charlie has worked in and around many of the most famous venues in New Orleans, including Preservation Hall.
