Dave Stewart & Friends
A multi-media entrepreneur, Dave Stewart is recognized as one of the most respected and accomplished talents in the music industry today. Beyond his creative work as a musician, Stewart is a renowned producer, author, director, photographer, filmmaker, and philanthropist.
Stewart's music career spans three decades and more than 100 million album sales, highlighted by his collaboration with Annie Lennox in the groundbreaking pop-rock duo Eurythmics (“Sweet Dreams [Are Made of This],” "Here Comes The Rain Again," “Would I Lie to You?” and dozens more). Behind the scenes he’s produced albums and co-written songs for Bono, Bryan Ferry, Gwen Stefani, Tom Petty, Katy Perry, Mick Jagger, and Sinead O’Connor, racking up numerous Producer, Songwriter, Golden Globe, and Grammy Awards along the way.
Stewart co-wrote and co-produced Stevie Nicks’ critically acclaimed solo album, In Your Dreams, marking the first time Nicks has ever collaborated on a solo effort. Stewart also took Joss Stone to Nashville, where they wrote and recorded her fifth studio album LP1. A lover of film and photography, Stewart shot full-length documentary feature films for both projects. He recently produced Orianthi’s soon-to-be released album Heaven In This Hell.
Also a founder of the aptly-titled heavyweight musical group, SuperHeavy, Stewart’s collaboration with Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Damian Marley, and A.R. Rahman was released in September 2011. Their self titled album, SuperHeavy, was hailed as one of the “Best Albums of 2011” by Rolling Stone.
The August 2011 release of Stewart’s own record, The Blackbird Diaries was his first solo project in over 13 years, and was recorded with some of Nashville’s top players in a whirlwind five-day session at John and Martina McBride’s Blackbird Studios. The album, written by Stewart (with a co-write assist by Bob Dylan and guest appearances by Stevie Nicks, Martina McBride, Colbie Caillat, and the Secret Sisters) is a reflective and story-driven journey, with nods to his blues inspirations, the price of success, and relationships both lost and found.
In Nov/Dec 2011, Stewart played a tour of Australia as the co-headliner with Stevie Nicks, performing in 12 cities across the continent to sold-out arenas.
2012 saw Stewart on the road as support for Sugarland on their In Your Hands Tour across the USA. Performing to crowds of country music loving fans, Stewart was a hit with songs off his album The Blackbird Diaries, as well as favorites from his past catalogue such as “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” recorded by Tom Petty. Closing each night, Sugarland performed an encore including Eurythmics’ “Would I Lie To You,” and “Here Comes The Rain Again” with Jennifer Nettles belting vocals and Stewart featured on guitar.
With The Blackbird Diaries receiving rave reviews around the world, Dave released his follow-up album, The Ringmaster General, featuring duets with Alison Krauss, Jessie Baylin and Diane Birch. On The Ringmaster General, Stewart creates a potent and distinctive musical gumbo, mixing rock, blues, country, rhythm & blues, and psychedelia. His songs are alternately moving and wry; they are filled with twists and turns- both musical and lyrical – that constantly surprise with repeated listens.
In September 2012, Stewart launched his new album The Ringmaster General, at the Troubadour. The special sold-out and star-studded show included surprise guest appearances by John Mayer and Orianthi on dueling guitars, as well as Colbie Caillat and Australian legends Delta Goodrem and Vanessa Amorosi all joining Dave on vocals.
Dave played a second show for his album launch, this time in Nashville to commemorate the recording of both albums at the famed Blackbird Studios. The performance highlighted songs from The Ringmaster General and The Blackbird Diaries, which featured duets with country legends such as Alison Krauss, Martina McBride and the “who’s who” of Nashville players. Dave performed this special Nashville gig at The Mercy Lounge and was joined by legenday guitarist Tom Bukovac, Sarah Buxton, and Jessie Baylin, while fellow musicians Nathan and Jared Followill (Kings of Leon) were among the star-studded crowd.
Following the show at The Mercy Lounge, Stewart played the Voodoo Music and Arts Experience in New Orleans on Saturday, Oct 27th.
His film “The Ringmaster General: The Making of Two Explosive Albums in One Rocking Documentary” premiered in the United States on Palladia (VH1/MTV) Nov. 2nd and will continue airing into 2013.
Dave is currently in the studio putting finishing touches on his next solo album, Lucky Numbers, to be released in Summer 2013.
