Underground Cities is an American instrumental rock band from Phoenix, AZ. The band was formed in early 2009, consisting of guitarists Bryan Garay and Jake Arrington, bassist Brent Bachelder, drummer Joseph Munoz, and multi-instrumentalist Jackie Garay. In their short existence, Underground Cities has quickly garnered themselves a "must see live" outfit due the high energy and anticipation of their live performance. Collectively, the band has successfully executed an attempt at adding more energy, elements, and diversity to the genre known as "post-rock". While they might fit neatly into the “post-rock” category, their music never falls into the dull and repetitive pitfalls that many of their peers wallow in. Underground Cities merges "surf rock" inspired reverb with the compelling and epic build-up instrumentals that post-rock is known for, giving strength to tracks with catchy hooks that will haunt your brain for days on end. "The Dalliance Album" released in 2009, is the band's debut self produced, recorded and released album. "Beautiful to the point of becoming sensual, the disc rewards the listener with every spin." "The Dalliance Album" has been described as the "perfect mix of mellow, instrumental rock with oft-frenetic interludes to help keep things from teetering over the edge of so-called, artsy fartsy "sound-scapes"." In 2010, "The Dalliance Album" was added to the River Jones Music Label roster, among a number of other great Phoenix based artists, and can be found for mail order and full streaming online. Thus far, the band has completed two successful west coast tours and is currently in preparation of recording and releasing a new album, due out in late 2011.
Dylan's musical journey has led him to many places, both figuratively and musically. Originally playing in his band, In Symmetry, he became a fixture on the vibrant Phoenix art/music scene. In 2010 Dylan relocated to Seattle and performed as a solo artist and in the band Moya. Now based out of Tempe, AZ, Dylan has been performing as a solo artist and touring throughout the Pacific Northwest and the Southwest, as well as opening shows for numerous national acts including Neko Case, JD McPherson, Rhett Miller, Ben Sollee, Matt Pond PA, Horse Feathers, and many others.
