Jakwob began making music aged 10 as a multi-instrumentalist and has been involved in many groups from his teenage years onwards, beginning in jazz but moving on to death metal and folk. His style is notable for its transcending of genres and its relative 'accessibility' given the dubstep genre. Both his original work and remixes combine elements of dubstep, electro, ghetto-tech and breakbeat. This eclecticism also manifests itself in Jakwob's DJ sets, which take in dub, hip-hop, drum and bass, dubstep and beyond. In 2009, he shot to fame after appreciation in the blog world for his bootleg of Ellie Goulding's 'Starry Eyed'. In November 2009, he was given his first airplay on national radio when his remix of Ellie Goulding's "Under the Sheets" was played on BBC Radio 1 as Zane Lowe's 'hottest record in the world'. Jakwob has since continued to produce remixes, including tracks by Matisyahu, Katie Melua, Little Boots, Empire of the Sun, Frankmusik, Lily Allen, Coco Sumner, Temper Trap and M.I.A.
Jakwob released his debut single Here With Me on his own label, Boom Ting Recordings on September 13, 2010. On November 8, 2010 Jakwob signed to Mercury Records and is due to release his first album in 2011.
Over the past three months, the three close friends known as Little Daylight have been taking some of 2012's best songs and molding them into something completely different. Little Daylight has created official remixes for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Temper Trap, St. Lucia, The Freelance Whales, Niki and the Dove, and now Passion Pit.
The rest of 2012 will find Little Daylight beginning work on their own songs, with a planned unveiling in January -- we know you will not be disappointed.
Halloween Party with Strange Talk
It's fair to say Strange Talk is passionate about pop, right down to the lyrics tattooed across the forearms of singer Stephen Docker. You can hear this passion and precision in their debut single 'Climbing Walls', a song that took them from a bedroom studio in Melbourne to shooting a film clip on a over-sized chess board in the middle of the Mojave desert.
Strange Talk is Stephen Docker, a former classical violinist from the Australian Youth Orchestra, and Gerard Sidhu, a DJ/Producer. At a house party in Melbourne, drunken bonding over pop heroes Michael Jackson and Queen – as well as new production outfits like Justice and Starsmith – inspired them to combine their musical abilities towards a sound that was classic in its approach but forward thinking in its production. The spark that flew was the track 'Climbing Walls'. This revved up dance pop track delivers what Neon Gold calls "an unwavering refusal to settle for mediocrity… with vocal chops that will set hearts on fire" – being the first melody ever written by Stephen, and his debut singing behind a microphone!
'Climbing Walls' hit No.1 on the Billboard's Uncharted Charts, No.1 most popular on Hype Machine, airplay on Radio 1, Triple J and Nova (as well as being Unearthed by Triple J), and receiving over half a million views on YouTube.
