Hernandez Hideaway, Smut Jelly Roll Society

Hernandez Hideaway

On tour from Oakland, CA, Hernandez Hideaway makes their way through the gamut of traditional Klezmer, Gypsy and Balkan melodies as they get a crowd clapping, stomping and eventually falling into a giggle fit with tunes paying homage to such american classics as our beloved David Hasselhoff…yes, as in Baywatch. Vocals, violin, sax, trombone, accordion and bass, they'll keep you dancing all night long.

Smut Jelly Roll Society

The Smut City Jellyroll Society is a spinoff from the good old Hush Hush Smut Club, playing much of the same repertoire and with some of the same members. Hush Hush stills exists, but since co-founder Jenavieve Kachmarik is out of town for much of the year, the band has to take long breaks. So to keep our fans happy and our chops polished, we bring you the Smut City Jellyroll Society!

We play music from the 20′s and 30′s, blues and early jazz from folks like Bessie Smith, Blind Blake and Blind Boy Fuller, Ma Rainey, Big Bill Broonzy, Harlem Hamfats and the Mississippi Sheiks among others. The sound is energetic and great to dance to, and the songs can be a little bit on the risque side. We are also writing and composing some original material in the style of the period.
