The Trophy Fire

The Trophy Fire, a Bay Area three-piece, play heartfelt, hook-driven and powerful indie rock. Their lush string and keyboard pads, big guitars and sultry harmonies conjure a span of comparisons from Jimmy Eat World to Tears for Fears. After the release of their first record "A Lifetime in the Middle of the Ocean," and tours with influences and mentors Far and Dredg, they put out a new EP "Armor."

In the Bay Area, there is a lot of great new music coming out each week. Bands break up, new ones begin and the buzz ensues…That brings us to The Trims, a local San Jose outfit that has the loyal fanbase and buzz to take them beyond their locality and into a national "spotlight". That's why we chose them for this feature, so you can get yourself better acquainted with the artists that are happening in the South Bay Area. The Trims have a strong sound reminiscent of early Strokes and the brit pop of the 90′s, while also conjuring the swagger of artists like Joy Division. Blend that style with over-sexed lyrics about all things scandalous, and you have the identity that defines The Trims.

With a patchwork of influences (Siouxie and the Banshees, Echo & the Bunnyman, Sonic Youth, Led Zeppelin, New Order and My Bloody Valentine) and by fusing elements of post punk, shoe gaze and psych rock, Vela Eyes produces an ethereal and aggressive soundscape.

The band started as a side project between guitarist Ian Zazueta (Delle Vellum, the Paradise Boys) and front woman Florie Maschmeyer. Bassist Nate Higley (The Snake the Cross the Crown - Equal Vision Records), was quickly added to the fold, introducing Julia Johari as a second keyboard player, guitarist and background vocalist. The four of them wrote a batch of songs and by September 2012 landed Jef Pauly (New Diplomat - Dan the Automator) as drummer.
